Located beside the greenery of Sihai Park in Shenzhen’s Shekou district, Shenzhen American International School (SAIS) has served the international community for nearly twenty years. Since its founding in 2005, SAIS has provided a rigorous international education designed to prepare students for universities and opportunities around the world.


For the 2026–2027 academic year, applications are now open. We welcome families seeking a globally minded education built on inquiry, academic excellence, and a strong sense of community.

 About SAIS

Shenzhen American International School (SAIS) was founded in 2005 and is approved by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China to serve foreign nationals and students from Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan.

SAIS provides a comprehensive international education from Early Childhood through Grade 12, combining internationally recognized academic frameworks with a strong emphasis on inquiry, innovation, and global citizenship.


Accreditation & Academic Recognition

  • Cognia Accredited:

    SAIS holds accreditation from Cognia, one of the world’s leading international school accreditation organizations. This ensures that our academic standards, teaching practices, and school governance meet internationally recognized benchmarks.


  • IB World School: 

    SAIS is authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP). This inquiry-based framework encourages students to explore real-world concepts, ask meaningful questions, and develop strong conceptual understanding.


  • Official Testing Center: 

    SAIS also offers secondary program,and SAIS is an authorized SAT and Advanced Placement (AP) testing center through the College Board, allowing students to complete key university admissions assessments on campus.


Campus Environment: 

Located next to Sihai Park, the campus provides students with both structured facilities and natural learning environments, including:


  • 400-meter running track

  • natural grass football field

  • basketball courts

  • outdoor learning areas connected to ParkLab inquiry programs


The proximity to the park allows students to extend learning beyond the classroom through exploration and outdoor inquiry.

Admissions

SAIS welcomes students from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12.


Enrollment is open to:


  • Children of foreign nationals

  • Students from Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan


Admissions Process：

Admission decisions are based on a holistic evaluation that may include:


  • Student interview

  • Parent interview

  • Academic assessment (MAP Growth testing)

  • Review of previous school records and behavioral reports


This process helps ensure that students are well supported in their transition to the SAIS learning environment.

Curriculum

SAIS provides a coherent academic pathway from early childhood through high school, combining internationally recognized curricula with inquiry-based learning and strong academic foundations.


Kindergarten (Ages 6 and below):

Our Early Years program emphasizes play-based inquiry learning, supporting the cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development of young children.

Learning experiences focus on:


  • Language and early literacy development

  • Early mathematics foundations

  • Inquiry and exploration

  • Creative arts and expression

  • Social and emotional development

  • Outdoor inquiry learning through “ParkLab”


Primary School (Grades 1-5):

Primary students follow the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP), an inquiry-based framework that encourages students to explore concepts across disciplines.

Academic learning includes:


  • English Language & Literacy (aligned with Common Core standards)

  • Mathematics using the Singapore Math approach

  • Science inquiry

  • Social Studies

  • Chinese Language

  • Creative Arts (Music and Visual Arts)

  • Physical Education

  • Outdoor inquiry through “ParkLab”

  • Student projects and exhibitions


Middle School (Grades 6-8):

Middle school builds strong academic foundations while supporting increasing independence and critical thinking.

Core subjects include:


  • English Language Arts

  • Mathematics

  • Science

  • Social Studies

  • Chinese Language

  • Information and Communication Technology (ICT)

  • Visual Arts and Music

  • Physical Education


Students also participate in leadership opportunities and extracurricular programs that develop collaboration, responsibility, and initiative.


High School (Grades 9-12):

High school students follow a rigorous academic program that prepares them for admission to universities worldwide.


Students may take Advanced Placement (AP) courses offered through the College Board, such as:


  • AP English Language and Composition

  • AP Calculus

  • AP Microeconomics

  • AP Macroeconomics

  • AP Psychology

  • AP Environmental Science


Additional academic opportunities include:

University Counseling:

SAIS provides individualized university guidance to help students navigate the global admissions process.


Support includes:

  • preparation for applications to universities in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Hong Kong, and other international destinations

  • 小学预备班 (K)：158,000 元/学年

  • 小学 (G1-G3)：208,000 元/学年

  • 小学 (G4-G5)：228,000 元/学年

  • 初中 (G6-G8)：258,000 元/学年

  • 高中 (G9-G12)：278,000 元/学年


Scholarship Policy

SAIS offers scholarships recognizing student excellence in areas including:


  • academic achievement

  • arts and athletics

  • leadership and character

  • overall student development


Both “full and partial scholarships” may be awarded following a fair and comprehensive evaluation process.

House System

The SAIS House System is central to school culture, fostering community, leadership, and school spirit.Students from Early Years through Grade 12 belong to one of four houses:


  • Eagles

  • Pandas

  • Monkeys

  • Lions


Each house forms a vertically integrated community that encourages mentorship and collaboration across grade levels.


Students participate in a variety of house activities throughout the year, including:


  • academic competitions

  • sports events

  • debates and talent showcases

  • community service initiatives


A points system recognizes achievement across academics, leadership, and extracurricular participation. Regular house meetings and assemblies celebrate student contributions and strengthen the sense of belonging within the SAIS community.

As an official SAT and AP test center, SAIS emphasizes both academic excellence and holistic development.
