Dear SIS Community,
Last week I wrote about the Visiting Team from the International Baccalaureate and their forthcoming formal report. I am pleased to say that we received the report this week and it was very much as we had hoped. I think the statement from the report that most sums up their assessment is the following.
"The International Baccalaureate visiting team would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to the leadership, faculty, students, and parent community of Shekou International School for their exceptionally positive engagement throughout the evaluation process. The IB visiting team deeply appreciates the transparency and professionalism demonstrated during the meetings, learning observations, and professional dialogues, which allowed for a comprehensive and meaningful review of the school’s implementation of the IB programmes. It was a privilege to witness a vibrant culture of international-mindedness and the unwavering dedication of the staff to fostering a compassionate, inclusive, and mission-driven learning environment.
The evidence gathered during the self-study and the visit confirms that the school’s implementation of both the Primary Years Programme and the Diploma Programme shows close alignment with the IB Programme Standards and Practices. The school has successfully evolved beyond mere programme compliance into a model of pedagogical innovation, characterized by a sophisticated culture of reflective growth and student agency. This structural foundation supports an intellectually demanding experience that remains deeply human-centered, fostering a community that is as supportive as it is academically ambitious."
All of our community across the school today, and over recent years deserves to feel pride from this report. It is good to be a Gecko.
I know that many parents had the opportunity to visit the PYPx this week. If you were able to see the project presentations for yourself, you would have been amazed by the depth of knowledge and thought that our grade 5 students have brought to the PYPx. You may not know that we invited students from our own secondary classes and also from other international and public schools in the area to visit. The feedback from all visitors was overwhelming and positive. PYPx is a great place to see how our primary school programme prepares students to research, analyse, manage a project, present and take action. All the skills needed for future success.
Best wishes to our grade twelve students who finished their regular classes this week and are soon to commence their final exams. They are well prepared and will do themselves proud in this final phase of their K-12 schooling. With many students already considering offers from great universities around the world, this time is an exciting culmination of many years of work. It was touching to see the joyful and strong relationships between this group and their teachers at a special luncheon earlier this week. On behalf of the entire SIS community, I wish these impressive young adults the very best for the exams.
