As a powerful culmination of their unit on Sharing the Planet, our Grade 1 students proudly hosted a Biomimicry Exhibition. This event was the final showcase of their deep inquiry into the central idea: Humans mimic nature to innovate and problem-solve.
作为“共享地球”单元的结课盛事,一年级学生们呈现了一场仿生学展览。这场展览是孩子们对核心概念的深度探究——“人类如何模拟自然以实现创新并解决问题”。






Throughout this transdisciplinary unit, students engaged in a rich exploration of core concepts. They investigated inheritanceby examining their own traits and those of animals, and explored learned behaviors in both the animal kingdom and their own lives (like responding to the recess whistle). This foundational knowledge paved the way for their final project: designing and building innovative devices inspired by nature.
在跨学科探究过程中,学生们深入探索了核心概念:通过观察自身与动物特征研究遗传,并从自然界及日常生活(如听到下课铃声后的反应)中探索习得性行为。这些基础认知为最终项目奠定了基础:受自然启发,设计并构建创新装置。




The unit was brought to life through authentic learning experiences across multiple subjects:
Arts & Design: Students explored the form and function of animal and plant structures as a blueprint for their own creations.
Math: They connected their designs to the attributes of 3D shapes, applying geometry and measurement in a practical context.
Literacy: Research skills were developed through reading about animal adaptations and documenting their design process.
PSPE & Music: These classes helped explore themes of learned behavior, communication, and collaboration.

数学:将设计关联至三维图形属性,在实践中应用几何与测量。

This project was a true demonstration of a creative SIS Gecko, with students embodying the attributes of Inquirers, Thinkers, and Reflective learners.
The exhibition was not just about the final product; it highlighted the students' development in key skills:
Thinking Skills: They engaged in creative thinking by generating novel ideas and information transfer by applying knowledge from science to design.
Research Skills: Students practiced information literacy—from planning and gathering data on animals and plants to synthesizing their research into a working invention.
Self-Management Skills: They honed their organizational skills by managing their time and tasks effectively to complete their projects.
该项目真实展现了SIS壁虎学子们的创造力,学生们在其中践行了探究者、思考者与反思者的特质。
展览不仅关注最终成果,更突显了学生在关键技能上的成长:
思考技能: 激发创造性思维以产生新颖构思,并将科学知识转化为设计方案。
研究技能: 实践信息素养——从规划、搜集动植物数据到将其整合为一项发明。
自我管理: 磨炼组织能力,有效管理时间与任务以完成项目。


The Biomimicry Exhibition was a testament to our young students' creativity, critical thinking, and ability to see the profound connections between nature and human innovation. Congratulations to our Grade 1 thinkers and creators!
