Children’s Day is a celebration of childhood and a reminder that every child deserves care, support, and opportunities to thrive. It also creates meaningful opportunities for children to develop empathy, compassion, and an awareness of the world around tem.
To celebrate this occasion, our Preschool students and P1UK students participated in a Children’s Day Walkathon and enjoyed a variety of activities along the route.
They chanted in unison and moved together in the "Caterpillar" relay race, truly feeling the power of cooperation. A small newspaper, caught by the wind as they ran, seemed to measure the speed of the breeze. Each child drew their own creative picture, and when all the drawings were pieced together, they formed a big heart.
Alongside the excitement of the day, students experienced how coming together as a community can create a positive impact.
# For our friends far away
As part of this event, BMH families made donations towards Butterfly Children’s Hospice — the first children’s hospice in China providing palliative and end-of-life care for children living with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions.
Through this experience, students were introduced to age-appropriate ideas of kindness, care, and being involved and taking action in their own community. They explored how even small actions can support others and began developing an understanding that people may experience life differently.
As an IB school, BMH is committed to developing internationally minded learners through meaningful experiences and action. We encourage students to reflect on how their words, actions, and choices affect those around them. Through inquiry-based learning, students gradually transform the abstract concept of caring into authentic experiences — learning not only academic knowledge but also how to empathise with others, support their peers, and respect differences. At BMH the spirit of caring is presented through three dimensions: Care for Others, Care for the Environment & World, and Care for Self.
The Walkathon reflected the IB Learner Profile attributes of being Caring and Reflective, encouraging students to recognise that kindness, empathy, and contributing to their community through action can begin from an early age. It was also a wonderful manifestation of 'caring for others' and 'caring for the world.
Our Children’s Day celebration became a meaningful experience of movement, connection, and giving back.
"Happy Children’s Day to our friends at the Butterfly Children's Hospice far away!
And happy Children’s Day to all big friends and little ones who have a childlike heart."
