As summer arrives in June and sunlight bathes the campus in golden glow, artistic vibes fill every corner. To fully implement aesthetic education and enrich campus culture, the art exhibition of our school’s annual COAT Festival officially opened this month. The show features creative artworks by students of all grades, divided into four themed zones: Fashion Vibes, Mountains, Sea & Shenzhen’s Coexisting Ecosystems, Western Art & Light, and Oriental Elegance. Every brushstroke and handmade piece reflects students’ in-depth exploration of beauty, nature and culture, fully demonstrating their diverse artistic literacy.

Fashion Vibes: Prep3 Students

 Craft Paper Fashion with Ingenuity

The first exhibition area is lined with eye-catching three-dimensional creative costumes, the exclusive creations of Grade 3 students under the theme Fashion Vibes.

Ordinary white paper serves as their only raw material, with no expensive fabrics used. Students hand-dye paper in vivid hues, sketch and refine original design drafts, then cut, fold, splice and shape flat drawings into three-dimensional fashion crafts. Simple paper transforms into gorgeous designs through children’s imagination, ranging from trendy Chinese-style outfits and dreamy gowns to playful streetwear. Acting as little fashion designers, the kids boldly unleash their creativity, interpreting creative aesthetics with affordable materials, and learning the beauty of form, color and styling through hands-on creation.

Mountains, Sea & Shenzhen’s

Coexisting Ecosystems:

Young Hearts Protect Local Nature

The second zone centers on environmental protection, open to students from lower to upper grades under the theme Mountains, Sea & Shenzhen’s Coexisting Ecosystems, guiding children to appreciate the ecological beauty of Shenzhen.

Younger students focus on the cycle of life: they use paintings and handcrafts to recreate the full metamorphosis from caterpillar to butterfly, and depict seeds buried in soil sprouting, blooming and bearing fruit, allowing them to directly experience the wonders of life cycles.

Senior students conduct in-depth research on local ecosystems and produce themed handwritten newspapers. They sort out Shenzhen’s climate and landforms, meticulously depict native flora and fauna, urban nature reserves and freshwater ecosystems. Their art captures mangrove wetlands, kapok and lotus flowers, as well as black-faced spoonbills, mudskippers and various marine life. Each illustration conveys the importance of wetland conservation and biodiversity, helping students develop a deep connection to their hometown and foster an environmental philosophy of respecting nature and harmonious coexistence of all living things.

Western Art & Light:Exploring

Masters, Color and Light Principles

The third zone takes visitors on a cross-temporal journey through Western art. Students conduct in-depth research on canonical works by Western master artists, dissecting the unique color palettes, painting styles and techniques of different art movements, and immersing themselves in the fundamental principles of color and light variation.

From light and shadow contrast to warm-cold color clashes, brush textures to compositional logic, children copy, deconstruct and reimagine masterpieces, translating the light and shadow aesthetics of old masters into original artworks. Through comparison and practice, they broaden their artistic horizons and learn to express color from diverse perspectives, appreciating the distinctive visual charm of Western art.

Oriental Elegance: Senior Students

Trace Traditional Chinese Culture

The fourth zone, Oriental Elegance, showcases works by senior students who dive deep into the heritage of traditional Chinese culture.

Students study the history of porcelain, closely examine the intricate decorative patterns on ancient ceramics, and admire the understated refinement and noble integrity of blue and white porcelain, embodying the philosophy that “blue grows out of indigo yet surpasses it”. They also delve into Zen tea culture, creating paintings and delicate art pieces to interpret the oriental wisdom of “Zen and tea as one, contentment brings lasting joy”. The fusion of blank space in blue-and-white art, elegant tea scenes and traditional patterns carries thousands of years of cultural heritage. Amid painted vessels and brushwork, teenagers cultivate a gentle, restrained Chinese aesthetic.

Nurturing Hearts Through

Aesthetics, Marching Toward Beauty

The four distinct yet complementary exhibition zones are filled with vibrant student artworks, brimming with children’s pure perception of beauty, empathy for nature, and thorough research into Eastern and Western cultures.

This art exhibition is far more than a visual feast. It is a key channel for our school to implement aesthetic education and elevate students’ comprehensive literacy. Breaking the boundaries of art classrooms, creative activities span handcrafting and ecological observation, Western light studies and traditional oriental aesthetics. Through observation, research and creation, students learn to perceive, create and inherit beauty.

Summer is in full bloom, and art radiates everywhere. Teachers, students and parents are warmly invited to visit the exhibition hall, join this artistic event belonging to our young creators, and listen to the touching dialogue between childlike hearts and aesthetics.
