9月，新学期的深国预迎来了一位特别的新导师。她叫Helen Guo，是深国预第一届美高毕业生。本科毕业于迪堡大学，研究生毕业于哥伦比亚大学的她，在纽约工作了三年后，辞去美国的工作，回到了深国预的“家”。

In September, a special new counselor came to SIFC. Her name is Helen Guo, and she is one of the first AP graduates of SIFC. Graduated from Diebold University with a bachelor's degree and then from Columbia University with a master's degree, after working in New York for three years, she quit her job in the United States and returned to SIFC's "home".

从国内到国外，从校园到职场，她对深国预的感情始终深厚。再次踏入校园时，青涩懵懂的小女孩已经出落成秀外惠中的大姑娘，昔日的校舍也因为史无前例的发展壮大，变得迥然不同。Helen感慨地告诉我们：“我发自内心感恩母校的认可和培养，感谢她给我这个机会，让我继续在这里成长，为母校的发展贡献一份力量。”

From home to abroad, from campus to workplace, she has always had a deep affection for SIFC. When she stepped into the campus again, the naive little girl had become a mature young woman, and the old school building had become completely different because of the continuous development. Helen told us: "I am grateful for the recognition and cultivation of my alma mater from the bottom of my heart. I thank her for giving us this opportunity to continue to her growth here and contribute to the development of her alma mater."

和深国预重逢的这天，距离Helen高中毕业已经快十年了，看到母校的变化，她心情十分激动：“母校在不断发展，越来越成熟了。学生拥有了更大的校舍和公寓，设施也更加完善。图书馆、游泳池、艺术教室的灯光和布置，小而精，颇有国外学院的味道。学生的课程很丰富，有了更多选择。”Helen还发现，比如老院长对教育的那份坚守，老师和学生的相处方式，还是原来熟悉的味道。

On the day of the reunion with SIFC, it has been almost ten years since Helen graduated from High School. Seeing the changes in her alma mater, she is very excited: "The alma mater is constantly developing and becoming more and more mature. Students have larger school buildings and dormitories. The facilities are also more complete. The lighting and layout of the library, swimming pool, and art classrooms are small and refined and have the taste of foreign colleges. Students have a lot of courses and have more choices.” Helen also found that, for example, the old principal’s opinion of perseverance in education and the way teachers and students get along are still the same as before.

成为导师后，Helen才知道，深国预的每一位老师都是学校择优录用的。“尽管我是深国预的毕业生，但也同样需要与其他优秀老师一起竞聘，不仅要看个人的工作经历与专业素养，还需要通过三轮严格的筛选，最终才能确定能否得到这份工作。”Helen也告诉我们，导师团队工作氛围很融洽，虽然入职不久，但已经受到了不少来自优秀前辈和同事的照顾，相信在这样的工作环境下，她能不断提升自己。

After becoming a counselor, Helen learned that every teacher at SIFC is recruited by the school based on merit. "Although I am a graduate of SIFC, I also need to compete with other excellent teachers. It not only depends on my personal work experience and professional abilities, but also through three rounds of strict screening before I can finally determine whether I can get the job. "Helen also told us that the working atmosphere of the counselor team is very harmonious. Although she has just joined the team, she has already received a lot of care from outstanding colleagues. Under such a working environment, she can continue to improve herself.

Helen把这个好消息告诉了高中的同学们。当年的高中同班同学还有小几届的学弟学妹们，现在分布在全球各地，有的在美国读完了大学本科后还进入哈佛大学、斯坦福大学、康奈尔大学、帝国理工学院、卡内基梅隆等名校深造，攻读硕士学位甚至博士学位；也有的已经进入职场，成为了各行各业的骨干。无一例外，当他们听到Helen回到母校担任导师的消息，都由衷地为她高兴。

Helen shared the good news with his high school classmates. The high school classmates of the year and the younger classmates are now spread all over the world. Some of them went to Harvard University, Stanford University, Cornell University, Imperial College, Carnegie Mellon, and other schools for further study after completing their undergraduate studies in the United States. Some have entered the workplace and become elites in all walks of life. When they heard the news that Helen has now returned to her alma mater as a teacher, they were all happy for her.

2010年的夏天，本打算去美国读高中的Helen因为和父亲参加了一场教育讲座而与深国预结缘。那时，在深圳读国际学校选择很少，大约只有三四所。很快，Helen和父亲选择了深国预，有几个原因——第一，成为深国预第一届美高学生，会受到很大的重视；第二，傅腾霄院长的办学团队和理念值得信赖；第三，当时的校园有山，有大教室，Helen很喜欢。

In the summer of 2013, Helen, who was planning to go to high school in the United States, began to know SIFC after attending an educational lecture with her father. At that time, there were very few choices for international schools in Shenzhen, only about three or four. Soon, Helen and her father chose SIFC for several reasons - First, being the first AP student at SIFC will be highly valued; Second, Principal Fu Tengxiao's team and philosophy are trustworthy; Third, the campus at that time was surrounded by mountains and had large classrooms, which Helen liked very much.

“深国预给我带来很多惊喜。”Helen一边回忆高中生活一边说。“我没想到国际学校会这么重视中文教育，学习的形式也很独特，中文老师让我们读散文然后写分析，考试也是论文写作的形式，提问方式也是开放性的。我还接触了课题研究，培养了我的批判性思维和发散性思考能力。”

"SIFC brought me a lot of surprises," Helen said as she recalled her high school life. "I didn't expect that international schools would attach so much importance to Chinese education. The form of learning is also very unique. The Chinese teacher asked us to read prose and then write an analysis. The test is also in the form of essay writing, and the test questions are open-ended. I also came into contact with subject research, then I developed my critical and divergent thinking skills.”

接触了国际课程后，“反教条主义”和“批判精神”在她心里生了根，也为她本科和研究生阶段的科研项目奠定基础。《模范生神话：针对亚裔的性别歧视和种族主义》（“The model minority myth”: sexism and racism against Asian-Americans）以及《帮助情感虐待经历学生的有效方法》（Research project: effective ways to help students who go through childhood emotional maltreatments）这两个成功的研究案例就是最好的证明。

After being exposed to the international curriculum, "anti-dogmatism" and "critical spirit" took root in her heart and laid the foundation for her undergraduate and graduate studies. “The model minority myth”: sexism and racism against Asian-Americans) and “Research project: effective ways to help students who go through childhood emotional maltreatment” are two successful research cases.

Helen是早产儿，小时候身体不太好，性格内向、害羞。经历了三年的高中生活，她变得更加主动、积极，勇于表达自己的观点，社交能力也变强了。

Helen was born prematurely. She was in poor health when she was a child. He was introverted and shy. After three years of high school life, she has become more and more active, has the courage to express her opinions, and her social skills have become stronger.

Helen记得当时仅仅15人的班级里，有一个特殊的存在，是一位亚裔美国人。她的父母想帮她找到文化认同，所以选择来到中国的国际学校。她不懂中文，没有中国朋友，和同学交流有障碍，所以比较消极，经常一个人在天台发呆。同学们知道后很关心，在课间休息的时候陪她，或者写贺卡给她，用她能感受到的方式照顾她、支持她。这段回忆温暖了很多人。这位亚裔美国同学现在已经回到美国，依然和当年的同班同学们保持联系，情谊跨越了大洋，一直延续下去。

Helen remembers that in the class of only 15 people, there was a special presence, an Asian American. Her parents wanted to help her find her cultural identity, so she chose to come to an international school in China. She does not understand Chinese, has no Chinese friends, and has difficulty communicating with her classmates, so she was relatively passive and often sat alone on the rooftop in a daze. After learning about it, her classmates were very concerned. They accompany her during breaks, or write greeting cards to her, taking care of her and supporting her in a way that she can feel. This memory warms a lot of people. The Asian-American classmate has now returned to the United States, and she still keeps in touch with her classmates back then. The friendship spans the ocean and continues forever.

还有一位美籍老师和Helen的关系很好。申请大学的时候，老师为Helen写了推荐信。虽然后来因为个人原因老师回到了美国，但和Helen还保持着密切的联系，他们互发邮件问候对方、也在社交媒体上相互关注。老师在美国重新找工作时，Helen也已经毕业且在美国工作了三年，机缘巧合，轮到她为老师写了推荐信。“我没想到有一天能有机会为老师写推荐信，我感到很荣幸，因为他是一位成功的老师，为我的人生带来了深刻的影响。”

There is also an American teacher who has a good relationship with Helen. When applying for college, the teacher wrote a letter of recommendation for Helen. Although the teacher returned to the United States for personal reasons, he and Helen still maintained close contact. They sent emails to greet each other and followed each other on social media. When the teacher looked for a new job in the United States, Helen had also graduated and worked in the United States for three years. By coincidence, it was her turn to write a letter of recommendation for the teacher. "I didn't expect to have the opportunity to write a recommendation letter for a teacher one day, and I feel honored because he is a successful teacher who has made a profound impact on my life."

入职后再次见到傅院长，Helen感慨很深。没想到时隔多年，院长依然对自己记忆犹新。“没想到我和Helen十年后的再相会，是她回到高中母校工作，我的内心感到异常的激动。她是第一位到深国预就职的校友。在教育领域耕耘了60年，创办深国预18年，也许没有什么比这更让人欣慰的了。这就是教育最动人的力量和魅力吧。”傅院长亲切、热情地向身边的老师们引荐Helen，对她在校的往事如数家珍。Helen觉得自己好像离开了很久，却又好像未曾离开过。

Seeing principal Fu again, Helen was deeply moved. Unexpectedly, after so many years, Principal Fu still had a fresh memory of her. “I didn't expect that Helen and I would meet again in ten years. She returned to work at her high school alma mater. I felt extremely excited. She was the first alumnus to work at SIFC. He has worked in the field of education for 60 years and founded SIFC 18 years ago, perhaps there is nothing more gratifying than this. This is the most moving power and charm of education." Principal Fu kindly and enthusiastically introduced Helen to the teachers around, and he was familiar with her past at school. Helen feels like she's been away for a long time, yet it doesn't seem like she's ever left.

Helen是深国预第一位自学AP心理学，并通过考试的学生。当时在国内，AP心理学还算是冷门科目，国内也没有专门的考场。要想参加AP心理学的考试，Helen必须提前在香港住一晚，在香港考试。

Helen was the first student at SIFC to teach herself AP Psychology and passed the exam. At that time in China, AP psychology was still an unpopular subject, and there was no special examination locations in China. To take the AP Psychology exam, Helen must stay one night in Hong Kong in advance and take the exam in Hong Kong.

当时，深国预的老师们都知道她的情况，即使学校没有开设心理学相关课程，老师也会专门指导她阅读中英文的心理学书籍和教材。Helen在初高中阶段就完成了《犯罪心理学》《梦的解析》等经典心理学书目的阅读。Helen还记得，当时的AP统计学老师给了她很大的支持和鼓励，引导她买书、做题、考试。但凡遇上AP考试，导师都会爽快地通过Helen的请假申请，也会在考试后及时关心她的考试结果。

At that time, the teachers at SIFC knew about her situation. Even if the school did not offer psychology-related courses, the teachers would guide her to read psychology books and textbooks in both Chinese and English. Helen completed the reading of classic psychology books such as "Criminal Psychology" and "The Interpretation of Dreams" in middle and high school. Helen still remembers that the AP statistics teacher at the time gave her a lot of support and encouragement, guiding her to buy books, do questions, and take exams. Whenever there is an AP exam, the counselor will readily pass Helen's leave application, and will also care about her exam results after the exam.

每到暑假，Helen和其他深国预的同学会参加公益支教活动。起初，这个团体只有几个人，后来，来自深圳“四大”的学生也加入进来，队伍越来越壮大，更是在当时成为了国内首个“中学生助学支教联盟”，是深国预首届美高学生的一大创举。他们帮助了很多有心理障碍的孩子找回生活的正轨。也就在这时，Helen所学习的心理学理论知识真正地帮助她解决现实问题，她见证了心理学给孩子们带来的积极力量。她开始在心理学领域深耕，本科阶段，学习心理学专业，研究生阶段，研究教育心理学。

Every summer vacation, Helen and other SIFC students would participate in public welfare teaching activities. At first, there were only a few people in this group. Later, students from other schools in Shenzhen also joined in, and the team grew stronger and stronger. At that time, it became the first "Secondary Student Aid and Teaching Alliance" in China， which was A great initiative founded by SIFC students. They have helped many children with mental disabilities get their lives back on track. It was at this time that Helen's theoretical knowledge of psychology really helped her solve real-world problems, and she witnessed the positive power that psychology brings to children. She began to work deeply in the field of psychology, studying psychology at the undergraduate level, and studying educational psychology at the postgraduate level.

Helen认为，成为导师后，她完全可以将自己熟知的心理学理论应用在工作中。“教育心理学充满正能量，它完全可以为学生和家长带来正面的引领作用，有利于学生心理疏导和与家校沟通。”

Helen believes that after becoming a counselor, she can apply the psychological theories she is familiar with in her work. "Educational psychology is full of positive energy, it can completely bring positive leadership to students and parents and is conducive to students' psychological counseling and communication with home and school."

现在的Helen成就了自己的梦想，她想帮助更多人逐梦。“作为导师，我不仅要帮助学生们实现学业的进步，申请理想的大学，我还想做他们灵魂和心理的导师，关注每一位学生，根据他们的天赋与潜力，帮助他们在学习、生活、社交上实现全方位的提升，不断超越自己，成为更好的自己。这正好和深国预的办学理念相契合。”

Now that Helen has achieved her dream, she wants to help more people follow their dreams. "As a counselor, I not only want to help students achieve academic progress and apply for ideal universities, but also want to be their soul and psychological mentor, pay attention to every student, and help them learn and live according to their talents and potential, to achieve all-round improvement in social, constantly surpassing themselves and becoming a better self. This is exactly in line with SIFC’s school-running philosophy.”
