ISA Wuhan Boarders' Heads of School Dinner
The first ISA Wuhan Boarders’ Heads of School Dinner was held last Thursday. The head of school, teachers and boarding staff had dinner with the boarding students and enjoyed time together.
As Mother's Day approached, MYP student representatives Celina, Cindy, Aaron and Zizy introduced the origin of Mother's Day in different countries around the world, providing a good opportunity for students to learn about the tradition in various cultures. This also highlights ISA educational philosophy, which aims to cultivate students to be global citizens with international perspectives.

上周四，武汉爱莎举行了首届校长晚宴，校长、老师、寄宿团队与寄宿学生共进晚餐，并享受一起交流畅谈的时光。
本次晚宴正值母亲节临近，MYP的学生代表Celina、Cindy、Aaron、Zizy为大家介绍了世界上不同国家的母亲节的起源，为同学们提供了一个学习如何融入各种文化的好机会。这也彰显了爱莎的教育理念，培养学生成为拥有国际视野与情怀的世界公民。
Principals Julianna Jia and James Morris specifically said that the students, as founding students, mean a lot to ISA Wuhan, which will be like their mother and will be there for them as they grow up.

The tradition of a formal dinner for boarding students has a long tradition in British independent schools (and universities) and has many different titles such as ‘High Table Dinner‘, ‘Formal Hall’, ‘Formal Dinner‘, and ‘Head of School Dinner’.
While the tradition of communal eating in a formal setting is not unique to British independent schools and universities, it certainly has deep historical roots and has spread far and wide around the world over many centuries.

Many historians believe that Merton Hall, Oxford University began the tradition in an educational setting in the thirteenth century and its roots go back even further as many of the ancient university colleges in Britain have their origins in even earlier religious, monastic traditions.
This ritual of eating was taken up by the oldest British independent schools and, as Britain's influence spread around the world, so the tradition took root in many countries, near and far.

The basic elements are common to all dinners, a shared experience of special food with a set format or ‘ritual’ aspect and speeches from distinguished guests and students.
While some of these occasions have deep roots in institutional organisation, hierarchy and status, most schools take a more relaxed approach these days and emphasise the aspects of sharing, building positive relationships, mutual appreciation and fun.

The dinner was the start of a tradition that will last for many years and one which will define the unique culture of ISA Wuhan. Every boarding student will have a special, shared dining experience with students in their divisions of school every month. Let’s look forward to the next special theme event in June.
Students will have the opportunity to have input into each event through student representatives, from the theme of the event to the choice of dinner and the choice of guest speakers. The historic roots of this tradition are very deep and, as the famous English proverb says, ‘great oaks from little acorns grow’!

从这场晚宴开始，校长晚宴将定义爱莎武汉的独特文化，也将会成为学校的一个传统。寄宿生在每个月都有一次特别主题的校长晚宴，让我们一起期待六月的主题吧！
每个学生都有机会通过学生代表对活动提出建议，从活动的主题到晚餐的选择再到嘉宾的选择。这一传统的历史渊源非常深厚，正如著名的英国谚语所说，“合抱之树，生于毫末！”。
Boarding is far more than a place to sleep. It is a space where students and staff build a community, where the ‘whole is greater than the sum of its parts’.
Many adults who have had a boarding life as a student reflect on the extra things they gained from living in boarding. For example, pride in that they played a part in building a community where they learnt that although we are all different, everyone should feel valued and supported. They learned important lessons about respect for themselves and others.

寄宿部不仅仅只是一个睡觉的地方。作为一处多元文化融合的小社群，学生们将充分体会‘集体力量‘的意义。
许多曾是寄宿生的人都认为自己从寄宿项目中获益良多，譬如学会尊重、包容他人，接纳更多存在，在帮助他人中获得成就感并获得有效的支持，能更好的回馈寄宿部这个社群，提升自我价值。
