Pranav,你好!恭喜你在早申阶段就已获得那么多录取通知书!能谈谈你的申请方向和人生目标吗?你对自己目前的实际录取结果是否满意?


答:谢谢老师!一直以来,我的梦想就是进入政府间组织工作,例如联合国开发计划署、世界银行或者国际货币基金组织。在初高中学习阶段,我就一直偏好经济学和有关可持续发展的内容。通过老师的支持和引导,我初步了解了这些政府间组织如何处理社会经济问题,也产生了加入这些组织工作的强烈意愿。目前看来,所有同意录取我的大学都能提供这样全面的教育机会。我对自己的录取结果十分满意,也非常期待即将开始的高校生活!

从一年级开始就在青苗就读,有哪些难忘经历?


答:从小学一年级直至今天,过去的十一年给我留下很多关于友谊和青春的美好回忆。我无比珍惜这段在青苗的时光,也很感谢与来自不同文化背景的同学共同学习生活的机会。从实地考察到露营活动,从足球比赛到科学实验,我学到了许多课堂以外的知识和技能,这些经历将在我离开青苗后继续伴随我成长,它们将帮助我更好的开始下一阶段的学业。


尤其难忘的是10年级的项目设计,在老师的支持和帮助下,我花费6个月时间学习了Swift语言,编写了一个中英双语iOS程序Cee Shan (慈善的谐音),这个APP可以帮助大众快速寻找到身边急需帮助和爱心的各类公益组织。也正是通过这个项目的优秀表现,在2018年暑假,我荣幸地入选并参加了在耶鲁大学纽黑文校区举办的耶鲁全球青年学者夏校项目(Yale Young Global Scholars/简称为YYGS)。


夏校的学习氛围开放、坦诚,鼓励探索,强调合作,同我们青苗的IB探究式教育殊途同归,都注重培养学生的思辨能力,学术探索能力,书面与口头沟通能力与团队合作精神。由耶鲁大学知名教授与业内先锋、大咖们主持的讲座,由夏校辅导员组织的深入讨论,与同班十多位同学一起进行的专题辩论会进一步加强了我对藤校水准的美国大学的了解,明确了自身的优势和长处。

你特别提到了IB探究式教育,很多人认为IB课程难度很高,通过这些年的实际学习过程,能谈谈你对IB的感受和看法吗?


答:IB课程对学生的综合要求确实是很高的。IBDP是非常严谨的大学预科项目,从英语、文学、到创意、实践和应用 (CAS),所有组成部分都充满挑战。遇到问题时积极和老师沟通,尝试通过多种渠道寻找解决问题的方法和手段,提醒自己将学习到的理念应用到实际问题中……这些方法总能让困扰我的难题迎刃而解。


IB课程虽然充满挑战,但我认为它对于申请大学有很大帮助。尤其是IBDP,它是为大学教育做准备的课程,在学科内容上既有挑战又很均衡。它鼓励学生通过对不同文化背景的问题、实事、前景和理念的思考,获得国际化视野和思想维度,而且强调学习者体力、智力、情感和道德的全面发展。正因于此,IB文凭凭借其严谨的评估体系和良好的声誉为获得者打开了世界顶级名校的大门。

即将离开学校,有没有要对学弟学妹们分享的升学建议?有没有想对学校说的话?


答:想对学弟学妹们说的是:享受学习的过程,做一个自律的人,并敢于冒险!也许你会抱怨学业带来的压力和负担,但我想这完全取决与你如何管理自己的时间。为每天学习和休息的时间做好预先安排,合理平衡学习和课外活动的比例,制定行之有效的行动方案,并坚定地实践它!另外就是要鼓起勇气去冒险,抓住稍纵即逝的机会。回首在青苗的学习生活,我有点遗憾的是,自己应该多走出舒适区,在更多的尝试和错误中学到新的东西。


最后,我想说,非常感谢青苗在这些年里对我的支持和培养。感谢每一位授课老师、升学指导老师和教职员工对我的帮助,掌握项目管理技巧。青苗不但赋予我全球化视野和多文化教育背景,教授我迎接未来世界机遇和挑战的知识与技巧,更用“爱、关心与支持”的核心价值为我指引今后的人生!

Congratulations Pranav! Are you happy with the offers received so far and what’s your goal of future?


A: Thank you! My ideal profession is to work in an inter-governmental organization, such as the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), World Bank, or International Monetary Fund (IMF). Throughout middle/high school, I’ve always been interested in Economics and Sustainable Development. I learnt in school about the work these organizations do to address socioeconomic issues, and I became interested in joining their efforts. All the universities that I have been accepted to do provide me with that balanced education and the opportunity to get me closer to my ideal profession. Overall, I am satisfied with my university admission decisions, and really excited for what lies ahead!



Q

Any fond memories since G1 with BIBS?


A: I’ve been studying in BIBS since Grade 1. I studied in the BIBS UES campus from Grade 1 to Grade 6, before coming here to the Shunyi campus from Grade 7 onwards. I truly cherish this long association, which has allowed me to interact with students from different backgrounds and cultures. Having been in BIBS for the past 11 years, there are a plethora of memorable experiences and stories that would be too long to list down, but they all have been memories of when I had the best times with friends. From field trips to Bibernations (school sleepovers), from football matches on the pitch to cool science experiments, these were the memories that I shall take away from my time in BIBS. I learnt a lot of life lessons and acquired several life skills that I wouldn’t be able to learn in the classroom, and these will stay with me wherever I go. 


During the project design in G10, I spent 6 months on learning Swift and wrote a bilingual iOS program Cee Shan, which was an APP helping people find charity organizations around them. Because of this APP, in 2018 summer vacation I had the honor to participate the Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS) held in Yale University New Haven.


Summer school encouraged open, sincerity, inquiry and cooperation, just like the IB inquiry-based education concept at BIBS. Both paid attention to student’s critical thinking, academic inquiry, written and oral communication and teamwork spirit. Seminars held by Yale professors, group discussions hosted by summer school tutors and the topic debate contest with classmates from all over the world really opened my eyes to the level of Ivy League universities and helped me better find my strength and weaknesses.

About the IB inquiry-based teaching, some say IB courses are difficult. Can you share with us your opinion and experience?


A: I did find my IB studies to be demanding. Because the IB DP is an academically rigorous program that prepares a student for university education, a IB DP student will face difficulties in all parts of the program. From English Language and Literature subjects to Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS), all components of the IB can be considered demanding. I found that talking to the teachers and finding appropriate resources assuaged any difficulties and drawbacks I had. Reminding myself of the relevance of the concepts I was learning helped take my mind off the difficulties I faced.


I find that taking the IB is very helpful for applying for universities. Since it prepares students for university education, it is an academically challenging and balanced programme. The IB has shown that students are well prepared for university work and the Diploma Programme has earned a reputation for rigorous assessment, giving IB diploma holders access to the world’s leading universities. It provides a package of education that balances subject breadth and depth by mandating students take certain subjects at Standard Level (SL) and Higher Level (HL). It encourages international mindedness by considering issues, events, perspectives and concepts from different countries and cultures, and this starts with a foundation in their own language and culture. It emphasises the development of the whole student - physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically. These are some of the many benefits an IB education provides to a budding high school student when they apply for universities.



Q

You are leaving school in June. Do you have anything to say to the school and future graduates?


A: Enjoy what you’re learning, manage yourselves effectively, and take risks! I think the latter two are most pertinent. I’ve come across schoolmates who say that they are stressed and burdened with deadlines and schoolwork. It all comes down to how you manage your time. Set aside specific times of the day for doing schoolwork and times to wind-down and rest. Balance the number of study and leisure CCAs you want to do in school. Get a support system going, and involve the most important people in your life. If you’re feeling stressed or mentally burned out, stop what you’re doing, take a break, talk to your friends and family and share your concerns. We teach all these skills and strategies to our students, but it takes willingness to implement these. Also be willing to take risks and step out of your comfort zone, as these opportunities may come few and far between in the future. Looking back, I should’ve taken more risks and stepped further out of my comfort zone. Because these are opportunities of learning, whether they be learning new things or learning from mistakes.


I must also convey immense gratitude to the school for all it has done to support my education throughout these years. I would like to thank all the teachers, guidance counsellors and staff that I have interacted with, and have helped me get to where I am right now. From strengthening my Chinese proficiency to imparting me with valuable time and task management skills and strategies, the school has molded me into a multi-cultural and global-minded citizen who is equipped with the knowledge and skills to function effectively in a dynamic world, and imparts love, care and support to one and all.
