【一宁】:比赛中遇到的最大问题就是如何进入备赛状态。看着眼前的一大摞教材,很难不感到心烦。但只要决定开始,剩下的就相对简单了。学习过程中不要轻易被干扰,要有连续学习几个小时的定力和决心。


在获得大量知识以外,我的综合学习能力也通过比赛得到了显著的提升。掌握正确的学习方法无比重要:在准备USAD艺术科目的考试时,我绘制了一张大型表格来帮助记忆重要知识点;在准备HOSA时,我做了大量简明易懂并且有条理的笔记。针对不同的目标和学习对象,会有大量的学习方法可用,要学会变通,而不是单纯地死记硬背。临时抱佛脚对比赛是没用的,要合理安排,每天都留出固定的备赛时间。


勇于走出自己的舒适区也十分重要,要愿意探索未曾踏足的领域。只要把学习时间都充分利用上,尽可能做到最好就没有什么紧张感了,因为你知道已经尽了自己的全力。


【妈妈】:无论是滞留湖北克服资料和设备困难参加USAD,还是在京居家隔离完成语奥赛初赛;无论是一个月内备战HOSA多于500页的教材和数不清的网页,还是人生第一次独自出远门;无论是相对稳定的文学和艺术科目,还是初次接触的语言学谜题,以及陌生的流行病学.......在这特殊的一年,我们期待少年慢慢懂得:只要自己饱满起来,变化对你的冲击就会比较小;只要开始,就比原来的自己进步;即便是学校停课,你依然可以选择一种方式把学习和世界连通起来。


儿子在和优秀同龄人的交流中成长,在一场接一场的比赛中看到自己的差距,也愈发自信起来,这是我们感到最欣慰的。我们还要特别感谢一宁参赛过程中所有给予支持和帮助的青苗老师:Icarus老师、Sonja老师,Vicky老师以及Emily老师。

【Matthew】:The biggest challenge was to be ready for the competitions. It was difficult to stay focused with so many textbooks, but things became easy once my mind was made up. I tried to focus and study for hours without being distracted.


While acquiring knowledge, I was able to improve my comprehensive abilities too. The key was to master the learning methods: when preparing for the USAD Art exam, I created a large chart to help memorizing the important information; when working on HOSA, I took a lot of organized notes. Different methods must be utilized for various learning objectives. It’s never just remembering or last-minute efforts. What I needed was a good everyday habit and enough time to be ready.


It’s important to step out of my comfort zone and try something new. I felt less nervous knowing I’ve done the best I could.



【Mom】:Taking the USAD while being locked down in Hubei, finishing the Primary of the Linguistic Olympics, completing 500 pages of HOSA exam textbook, and first time travelled by himself; Literature and Art, Language and The Epidemiology… I hope our young generation realize that becoming strong is the best way to deal with changes. It’s never too late to start, even when the schools are closed, you may choose to stay connected to the world of studying.


My son is growing up among a group of excellent young talents. While seeing the distance, he has become more and more confident. We would also like to thank his teachers at BIBS for their help throughout the months: Mr. Icarus, Ms. Sonja, Ms. Vicky and Ms. Emily.




青苗印象

BIBS Impression

【一宁】:青苗的氛围很好,老师和同学都非常友善,在这几年里都给了我很多帮助。跟同学聊天总是能缓解学习压力,给我继续努力的能量;而当我有问题和困惑的时候,老师总是能给我解答。总而言之,青苗是一个充满正能量的地方。


【妈妈】:2014年我结束外派工作回到北京,首先考虑的就是一宁的学校问题。当时一宁九岁,应该上三年级了,可会写的汉字还不到50个。为了保护孩子的自信心,保持他的英语优势,同时又不放弃汉语,我们决定把一宁送进双语学校。校名中突出“双语”二字,建校时间长、声誉好的青苗,就这样引起了我们的注意。那年秋季学期,也是青苗顺义校区第一年招生,理想的学校居然开到了家门口,我们全家都感到实在太幸运了,欢欢喜喜地把一宁送进了新校园。


转眼6年过去了,青苗最打动我的始终是校园里友爱温暖的气氛。孩子们各有所长,纯真阳光;青苗的老师们热爱学习并富有钻研精神,让属于自己的学科充满吸引力;青苗充满鼓励和支持的教学氛围,给了一宁很多时间和机会发展学科之外的特长和兴趣,如阅读、小语种、戏剧表演、运动比赛等等;还有一个很重要的方面是双语教学,从只会写几十个字到能写上千字的有深度的大作文,衷心感谢一宁的每一位中文老师!进入到DP阶段,学校的升学指导老师及时跟我们取得了联系,耐心细致地分析孩子升学的方方面面,很让人安心。


这些年,也有人建议我们早一些把一宁送到国外读书,或者转去规模更大的学校,我们都没受影响。最重要的原因是觉得青苗完全能够满足我们对一宁的教育预期!

【Matthew】:There is a nice environment at BIBS where everyone has been very friendly. Talking to my friends always made me feel re-charged, and my teachers were always there when I had questions. In short, BIBS is a place full of positive energy.

 

【Mom】:2014 I came back to Beijing from overseas, and to find a school for 一宁 became my number one priority. He was nine but could only write no more than 50 Chinese characters. Considering his confidence and English skills, I decided to put him in a bilingual school. And BIBS came to my attention right away. That was the first year of BIBS Shunyi Campus, and it was right next our home. We felt very lucky and registered for Matthew then.

 

6 years past, we have enjoyed the warm atmosphere at BIBS. Students are talented and sunny, teachers are professional and knowledgeable. A positive learning environment has encouraged us all and allowed my son with more time to explore his interests such as reading, languages, theatre and sports. Bilingual education is very important and has helped my son a long way with his Chinese. When Matthew entered DP stage, his guidance counsellors got in touch with me and helped us on every step of the arrangements.


Over the years we were often suggested to send 一宁 overseas or transfer to a larger school here. But we never did. I think BIBS is the right school for my son.

About Future

【一宁】:今年,疫情打乱了很多安排。选择参加这些比赛让我的2020变得更加充实,也让我看到充满无限可能和可以更好的自己。虽然目前还没有一个确定想学的理想专业/工作,不过希望自己以后能投身对社会有积极影响的行业。目前我对社会学相关的领域比较感兴趣,今后也会积攒领域相关知识并继续提升自己的个人能力。


【妈妈】:就像一宁说的,今年参加三项全国性赛事的本意,只想让“学习空洞期”充实一些。收获很实在,所有的奖状和奖牌都是惊喜。我们对未来的期待也大致如此,更看重实实在在的收获。对一宁的未来没有太多具体规划和设计,对大学和专业的选择不能说毫不在意,但没有那么在意。最大的期待是他有所热爱,始终自信、快乐地走在学习和成长的路上。

【Matthew】:COVID-19 has changed everything this year but I’ve been staying busy with all the competitions. I think now I’m more confident too. I’ve not made up my mind on which major or profession to pursue yet, but I hope whatever I do, it will be helpful to the society. At the moment I’m very interested in sociology, and I will collect more information in this field and try to promote myself.

 

【Mom】:Like Matthew said, we wanted to keep him busy by attending these competitions. The reward was surprisingly good, and we hope the same for his future. So far, we don’t have to detailed plans for 一宁’s future yet, and have not spent too much time on university choosing either. I want him to be passionate, confident and happy.
