On May 26, 2023, Beijing Royal School wore a festive look illuminated with shinning faces of the graduates of Class of 2023, as the school celebrated their graduation ceremony. 

The celebration began with a solemn Confucius Worship and Flag Raising ceremony, followed by setting the stage ablaze by students with their Peking Opera performance. 

In the opening remarks, Mr. Huang Kan, the Graduation Ceremony's Chief Guest who is the President of Beijing International Education Exchange Center, highly praised the achievements of Beijing Royal School over the past 27 years since its establishment. He said that BRS's consistent emphasis on cultivating students' academic excellence and international perspective; its efforts to introduce and establish well-rounded international educational resources and a high-level international exchange platform; and the encouragement of teachers and students to actively participate in various international exchange activities, are experiences worthy of wide reference.

In his speech, Mr. Heng Xiaojun, Principal of Beijing Royal School, expressed his sincere congratulations to the Class of 2023 and his heartfelt thanks to our parents, faculty and staff. He praised the graduating class for demonstrating unprecedented resilience in the face of challenges and for striving for excellence throughout their time at BRS. All graduates have been accepted to their best-fit universities, with more than 1,058 offers of acceptance and a total of more than $2.72 million in scholarships. Members of the cohort received an average of five offers, highlighting their competitiveness for many of the world's top educational institutions. He hoped that the students of the future would be "aspiring, capable, cultured, caring and persevering" and would grow up to be the pillars of the country and society.

Mr. Cen Jianjun, BRS Campus Chief Supervisor, spoke of the many moments he had shared with the Class of 2023. He offered sage advices to our graduating students, who will soon enter a more challenging phase of learning, to "put study first and balance recreation and rest; develop independent thinking and judgment; have great aspirations and a patriotic spirit; establish friendly relations with aspiring young people around the world and become an ambassador of Chinese culture and communication between China and abroad".

Ms. Zhang Ying, Year Leader of the Class 2023, fondly recounted in her speech the transformations she has witnessed in students over the past three years, and encouraged the graduating students to “aim high, grow to their full potential, and strive for greater academic success and personal growth”.

Mr. Fang Lei is the parent representative for this ceremony, whose son Fang Duyuan, a member of the Class of 2023, has been accepted to Cornell University. In his speech, Mr. Fang encouraged all graduates to forge their own paths for the future despite challenges and hardships, and to bear in mind their individual, family and social responsibilities.

Class of 2023 representative Sun Haoyang, speaking on behalf of his batchmates, thanked the school that has helped prepare them for the future. “Thanks to the strong bonds forged at BRS, we can all be honest with ourselves today, proud of our respective journeys at BRS and eager to take on the challenges of the future.”

The highlight of the ceremony, and always the most anticipated part, was the presentation of the graduating class' gift to their alma mater. Fang Duyuan, representing the Class of 2023, and his classmates presented a 3D model with high-tech elements for the 50th anniversary of Beijing Royal School in 2046. The creativity and versatility of our students' talents demonstrated the strength of a BRS education, reflecting both our academic standards and the quality of the extracurricular opportunities our students receive at school.

Our seniors led the event with outstanding performances that showcased their artistic talents. The ceremony also featured three show-stopping visual delights from our students. They performed a unique choreography inspired by Poetic Dance: The Journey of a Legendary Landscape Painting; a Chinese Martial Arts Fans, a performance that truly reflected and combined the beauty of Chinese Martial Arts, Tai Chi and Fan Dance; and a theatre piece called 'Cradle on Horseback'. Their stunning performances were greeted with rapturous applause from the audience.

Graduates were awarded with graduation diplomas by Chief Principal of Beijing Royal Campus Mr. Wang Guangfa. It was a sight that all parents will cherish. The entire school wished them their very best as they embarked on their university journeys.

In the words of Chief Principal of Beijing Royal Campus Mr. Wang Guangfa at the commencement ceremony, he congratulated our graduates on all that they have achieved, and he commended them saying “Today, you have demonstrated your abilities with satisfying results. You have all risen to the unprecedented challenges with unwavering determination and resilience, and you will become the future pillars of our country, the rising youth of this era and participants in international affairs. As you enter the international arena, please remember to pay more attention to the international situation, the development of the economy, industry, technology and education at home and abroad. Only when you truly understand international affairs and have keen insight and judgment will you be able to tell the Chinese story and influence the world with your voice”.

The past three years witnessed and defined our students’growth. Now, they are heading towards an exciting phase in their lives as the graduation becomes an opportunity to soar high, thanks to their hard work and aspirations.
