It has been a challenging time for school education this autumn. Our city was once again affected by COVID-19 lockdown policy, and schools have been moved to distance learning since late October. However, the quick responses and effective measures of BIS online learning not only enabled students to continue the corresponding learning, but also more rationally adjust the lesson time, allowing students to have adequate study and rest, to carry on the edification of music & art and physical exercises.


这个秋天对教育界是一个挑战。我们的城市再次受到新冠病毒的影响,学校课堂在10月下旬改为了线上教学。英伦学校快速有效的应对措施不仅让学生们继续相应的课程学习,还更合理化地调整了网课的上课时间,让学生们劳逸结合,在繁忙的学术学习的同时,不停止学生们对音乐艺术的熏陶和体能的锻炼。

During this term. EYFS students performed particularly well in lessons.


在本学期里,我们的EYFS的学生们在课堂中表现尤为出色。


Our little Pre-nursery kids have been playing with actual instruments, singing various nursery rhymes, exploring the world of sounds. Nursery ones have developed basic sense of rhythm and movements towards music, focused on learning how to sing and dance to a song, to further enhance our children’s music abilities. Reception students have more awareness of rhythm and pitch and have been learning to dance and sing more accurately and precisely to songs. They have also slip in some basic music theory during singing and dancing, to prepare them for the primary school music study.


我们的小小班学生们在课堂上尝试各类不同的乐器,听唱经典童谣和探索自然界中的声音。小班学生们重点培养节奏感和律动感,伴随不同歌曲哼唱旋律和跳舞,以进一步提高孩子的音乐能力。中班学生们对节奏和音高有了更多的认识,重点学习如何更准确地运用声音唱歌。他们还学习了一些基本的音乐理论,为小学音乐学习做准备。

From Year 1 on, each weekly music includes three main parts:

1) music appreciation (listening to different world-famous music, different genre of music, etc.)

2) music knowledge (following Cambridge curriculum, music theory, etc)

3) instrumental playing

(Each year group has learnt to play a musical instrument, includes rainbow bells, xylophone, recorder, violin, and drum. BIS also plans to introduce wind instruments and establish BIS ensemble in next term.


从一年级开始,我们的音乐课堂变得更加的丰富。每堂课都包括三大部分内容:音乐鉴赏(聆听世界名曲,感受不同音乐风格等)音乐知识( Follow Cambridge curriculum学习大纲),乐器演奏。每个年级都有学习一门乐器学习,其中包括有彩虹铃, 小木琴, 竖笛, 小提琴和鼓. 在第二学期,学校计划引进管乐乐器,同时组建英伦乐团。

In Year 1, we are encouraging students to explore the potential of sounds we can make with our body, and learning to sing and perform a song as a class. We have been making different sounds with our body and our voice. And using simple songs, we are also developing enhanced sense of pulse, dynamic, and pitch. We have also been learning to play a bell instrument, which requires cooperation of the entire class to perform, and we have been singing and playing songs like Old MacDonald Had a Farm.


In Year 2, we are putting the sense of rhythm and pitch in use, by learning to recognize high and low notes and some music notes as the practice for the sense of pitch, and we use chanting and two basic rhythms as the practice for the sense of rhythm. We have also been learning how to play the instrument xylophone, and have been playing songs like Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.


In Year 3, as students have developed the ability to learn more advance knowledge, we have been learning how to layer different sounds and rhythm. We created soundscapes together, and we practiced polyrhythm as a class. We have also been learning how to play the instrument recorder, and we have been playing songs like Hot Cross Buns. 


在一年级,我们鼓励学生探索我们可以用身体发出的声音的潜力,并在课堂上学习唱歌和表演歌曲。我们一直在用我们的身体和声音发出不同的声音。通过使用简单的歌曲,我们也在培养增强的脉搏感、动态感和音高感。我们也一直在学习弹奏铃铛乐器,这需要全班同学的合作来演奏,我们一直在唱歌和演奏像《老麦克唐纳有一个农场》这样的歌曲。

In addition to the traditional chorus learning in music lesson, the set-up of BIS music lesson also introduces various music learning contents. Music appreciation and instrumental playing which are closely related to IGCSE music exam. "Composer of the Month" is established to let students learn more about different musicians' life story, music style and so forth in order to accumulate musical knowledge for the subsequent IGCSE Aural exam.


英伦学校的音乐课堂除了有传统的合唱外,本学期还增添了一些其他音乐学习内容。其中音乐鉴赏和器乐学习都是跟IGCSE音乐考试紧紧联系一起的。Composer of the Month是以每个月为单位了解一位音乐家,包括音乐家的生平故事,音乐风格等,为之后的IGCSE Aural考试积累足够的音乐知识,帮助学生考试中取得优异成绩。


Composer of the month in November is Mozart. Students listened to Mozart's music, learnt about Mozart's life story during lesson time, and followed up the homework to make a poster of Mozart’s concert. Students did their own research on Mozart, found out Mozart’s portrait and compositions which they like the most, and selected  the information they gained into a poster, which not only helping them to improve their researching skills, but also motivate them to think critically according to their own interests.  


11月的鉴赏音乐家是莫扎特,学生们在课上聆听莫扎特的音乐,了解莫扎特的成长故事,课后自行查找该音乐家的肖像,音乐作品,并选取合适的曲目制作音乐会的节目单。这项作业提高了学生们自主查阅,自主思考的能力,同时学生们也可从自己的兴趣点出发查找他们想要知道的关于音乐家的故事,促进他们学习的动力。

As we all know, violin is one of the most difficult instruments to play. However, the complicated hand shape, the changing bowing/fingering, and the demanding intonation did not stop the learning passion from Year 4&5. They have learned a lot during these 2 months, includes the basic playing posture, the playing angle of four open strings, the bow distribution of different rhythms, and the music of different festivals, including Trick or Treat, Jingle Bells, etc.


我们都知道小提琴是最难演奏的乐器之一,复杂的手型,变换的弓段指法,高要求的音准等这些大难题却没有阻挡四五年级学习小提琴的热情。他们这学期学习了基本的演奏姿势,四条空弦的演奏角度,各类不同节奏型的弓段分配,以及不同节日的曲子,包括:Trick or Treat,Jingle Bells等。



Secondary

中学


Year 7, 8 and 11 have also made great progress in violin learning during online lessons recently. Video 1 is the open string piece played by them at the end of September. At that time, they did not learn any fingerings on strings, but simply practised the bow with different elbow levels; However, in the last lesson in December, they can already play "The Descendants of the Dragon", "We Will Rock You" and some other simple songs, which are far above our expectations! I believed we will be able to establish the BIS String Orchestra very soon after returning school. Keep going, kids!


七、八、十一年级的学生们在最近网课小提琴学习上面更是取得了飞跃性的进步。

视频1是在学生们9月底演奏的空弦曲目,当时大家还没有学习按指,只会简单的右手拉弓;但在12月的最后一节课上,他们已经可以演奏《龙的传人》《We Will Rock You》等曲目,非常不错!相信在回归课堂不久后我们就能建立英伦乐团。继续加油孩子们!

Year 9&10 learnt greatly about music theory. They completed the study of ABRSM Grade 1 in this semester. They will use the knowledge they have learned to compose music in the next term, and constantly practice the technique of composition in order to lay a solid foundation for the IGCSE composition exam.


九年级和十年级在音乐课堂的乐理学习中也取得了较高的进步,他们在短短的第一学期就完成了英皇ABRSM Grade 1的学习,计划下学期会运用所学的知识作曲,不断练习作曲技巧为之后IGCSE作曲考试打下坚固的基础。



Music learning is not just about singing, it includes various secrets for us to explore. I believe students in BIS can experience the most wonderful music learning journey if they can carry on their passion and efforts. Teachers in BIS are always bring the best education to our students.
