In ISA Tianhe, a Chinese elective course is a traditional Chinese cultural inquiry course that students take in addition to compulsory courses. From EY1 to Y5, each class had a school year-long exploration of traditional Chinese culture based on a cultural theme. Guided by questions and started by concepts to conduct inquiry activities, students become independent learners during exploration. They better understand Chinese culture, find its value in modern society, and inherit better and more innovative traditional Chinese culture.

爱莎天河的中文选修课程是同学们在必修课程之外辅修的中国传统文化主题探究课程。从幼儿园到小学五年级,每个年级围绕一个文化主题开展为期一学年的中国传统文化探究活动。以问题为导入,以概念为驱动,让孩子们成为主动的学习者,开展主题探究活动,让孩子们自然感知到中国源远流长的文化意象,发现它的现代价值与文化内涵,继而更好地传承与创新中国传统文化。




In order to show the richness and profound charm of Chinese traditional culture, enable students to understand Chinese traditional culture better, and contribute to the inheritance and innovation of Chinese culture,. The Chinese team held a Chinese Traditional Culture Exhibition event on the morning of 4 May. The event has two parts, Exhibition and Performance.

为了展现中国传统文化的丰富内涵和博大精深的魅力,让同学们更加深入地了解和认识中国传统文化,为中华文化的传承和创新贡献力量,5月4日上午,中文选修班的中国传统文化探究成果展在校如期举行。本次成果展分展区展示和舞台汇演两个部分。

Exhibitions

展区展示 

This exhibition had 5 themed areas, including Chinese Stories, 24 Solar Terms, Chinese Punctuation, Chinese Poetry, and Lingnan Culture. Each exhibition area vividly demonstrated the relevant theme's cultural connotation and historical evolution through posters, handcrafts, theme presentations, and interactive activities.

本次展览主要分为5个主题展区,包括“中华故事”、“二十四节气”、“汉字符号”、“中华诗歌”、“岭南文化”。每个展区都以手抄报、手工、主题解说、互动体验等方式,生动地展示了相关主题的文化内涵和历史演变。

Chinese story

中华故事






This year, Early Years and Y1 students in Chinese elective courses explored and studied Chinese stories. Based on the central idea: "Stories carry people's thoughts" and "People pass on memories or express their imagination by creating stories". Through exploring various types of stories, such as myths, idioms, zodiac stories, fairy tales, students developed the ability to think actively and perceive the structure and content of the story. Through various experiential activities, such as drawing and character dress-up, students learned about the storyline and the characteristics of the characters and understood the ideas and emotions conveyed in the stories.

本学年幼儿园和一年级中文选修班的同学分别围绕“故事承载着人们的想法”和“人们通过创作故事传递记忆或表达想象”的中心思想展开对中华故事的探究学习。同学们通过对神话故事、成语故事、生肖故事、童话故事等多类故事的探究,培养了积极思考的习惯,从整体感知故事的结构和内容,通过涂涂画画、角色扮演等丰富多样的体验活动,了解故事情节和角色特征,感受故事中传递的思想情感。

24 Solar Terms

二十四节气



The Year 2 students' inquiry was based on the central idea that "The formation of traditional practices can be the result of human ingenuity." During the inquiry learning process, students used a variety of media and tools to find information independently and extract information about the solar terms, and they were able to name the Sanhou (1 solar term in 15 days), customs, agriculture, and ancient poems in each solar term. Students analysed the information they had collated to create mind maps of the individual festivals, identifying patterns and asking new questions. And they discovered the subtle difference between time and phenology, and the relationship between imagery and solar term in the ancient poems by comparing them.

二年级的探究围绕着“传统习俗的形成可以是人类智慧的结晶” 的中心思想。在探究学习过程中,同学们运用各种媒介、工具独立阅读资料,提取关于节气的信息,能够说出每个节气的三候、习俗、农业、古诗等,能分析自己整理的信息,制作各个节气的思维导图,找出规律,提出新问题,能通过比较古诗,发现古诗中细微的时间和物候差别,发现古诗中的意象与节气之间的联系。

Chinese Punctuation

汉字符号



In Y3 students' inquiry, the central idea was "Understanding the creation and classification of symbols can improve the perception of symbols by thinking." In the exhibition, students demonstrated the creation process, development, evolution, origin, character formation, structure, and creative thinking of Chinese characters; explained the connection between the sound, form, and meaning of Chinese characters and structural features through interesting Chinese character stories, nursery rhymes, and animations. Finally,  students incorporated their knowledge and thoughts about Chinese characters into the story performance of Cangjie Makes The Character.

三年级的探究中心思想是“了解符号的创设与分类可以提升思维对符号的感知”。同学们展示了汉字的创造过程、汉字的发展和演变,从汉字的起源、造字法和结构入手,介绍汉字的创造性思维;通过有趣的汉字故事、汉字童谣、汉字动画讲解汉字音、形、义的联系和结构特点;最后,将自己对汉字的认识和思考融入到《仓颉造字》的故事表演中。

Chinese Poetry

中华诗歌



Y4 students began their exploration of Chinese poetry with the central idea that “Readers can transcend time and space, cross-cultural differences, and share their unique perception of the world through research on the poet's expression and the background of the times". Students were introduced to the historical development of poetry, its stylistic features, structural characteristics, creative techniques, cultural values and the emotions contained in it. This exhibition led the students and teachers to appreciate the artistic charm of Chinese poetry.

四年级学生围绕“读者通过对诗人的个人表达以及其所处的时代背景的研究,可以超越时空、跨越文化的差异,分享诗人对这个世界的独特感知”的中心思想展开对中华诗歌的探究。同学们介绍了诗歌的历史发展、文体特征、结构特点、创作技巧、文化价值、诗人的生平和蕴含的情感等,带领全校师生领略了中国诗歌的艺术魅力。

Lingnan Culture

岭南文化



The inquiry theme of the Year 5 students was Lingnan Cculture, with the central idea that "Culture is the continuation and transmission of human wisdom." The students presented Lingnan's history, architecture, food and celebrities. This explained the reasons for its unique cultural forms and ways of thinking, giving a better understanding of some of the living phenomena of Lingnan culture.

五年级的探究主题是岭南文化,中心思想是“文化是人类智慧的延续和传承”。同学们向大家介绍了岭南历史、建筑、饮食、名人等,解释了岭南特有的文化形态和思维方式产生的原因,让大家对身处岭南而习焉不察的一些生活现象有了更深入的了解。

Performance

舞台汇演

The performances featured poetry recitation of 24 Solar Terms, storytelling of Little Rabbits, the dance of Jianjia, singing and dancing of White Dragon Horse, tea ceremony and storytelling of Cangjie Makes The Character. The students brought a wonderful experience to the audience by singing wonderfully with a silver voice and deep feeling, , dancing gracefully and using exaggerated and humorous words and funny actions.

本次舞台汇演主要有诗朗诵《二十四节气》、故事表演《小兔子乖乖》、舞蹈《蒹葭》、唱跳《白龙马》、茶艺表演和故事表演《仓颉造字》等。同学们通过韵律十足的节奏、声情并茂的声音、古灵精怪的表情、活泼可爱的肢体动作、曼妙舒展的舞姿和夸张幽默的言行等为全校师生带来了一场精彩纷呈的视听体验!

The theme of the Chinese Traditional Culture Exhibition was Explore and Learn. "Explore" emphasizes exploring the essence of things and knowing the truth of things so that students can improve cognitively. "Learn" focuses on continuous learning and practice, enabling improvement in action. The exhibition fully demonstrated the characteristics of ISA students as learners who are inquirers, thinkers, communicators, risk-takers, and reflective. We look forward to seeing students continue to explore the world and to improve with the power of "Explore and Learn"!

"探微明理,博学笃行"是本次成果展的主题。"探微明理",强调探究事物的本质,认识事物的真相,使我们能够在认知上得到提高;"博学笃行",则注重不断学习、不断实践,使我们能够在行动上得到提高,两个方面相辅相成,相互促进。本次成果展充分展示了爱莎学子积极探究勤于思考善于交流勇于尝试及时反思的学习者特质,期待同学们继续带着“探微明理,博学笃行”的力量不断探索前进、精益求精!
