Good afternoon, Honourable guests, Headmistress, teachers and fellow schoolmates. Today I am honoured to share my perspectives on the city development of the Greater Bay Area with you. The idea of the Greater Bay Area is aimed at enhancing cooperation with core cities and improving the development quality of the whole urban area.
By the way, do you know what are the core cities in the Greater Bay Area? The answer is Hong Kong, Macau, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen. In my presentation, I plan to use a unique approach by discussing the world records of three core cities, Hong Kong, Macau and Shenzhen.
To begin, I would like to introduce the city which I am familiar with – Hong Kong. I have been living here since I was born. Hong Kong's city development has transformed from a fishing and farming village into an international financial centre with modern architecture, world-class transportation systems, and an advanced healthcare system.
For the architecture in Hong Kong, we own a lot of world records. Let me ask you a question. What is your first impression of Hong Kong? For me, the city’s skyline is a symbol of Hong Kong. We hold the record for having the highest number of skyscrapers in the world. Hong Kong has over 553 buildings standing at a height of 150 meters or more, more than any other city in the world. We even have two hundred more skyscrapers than New York! Isn’t it incredible?
In addition to architectural design, the healthcare system plays a crucial role in the development of a city. Hong Kong’s advanced healthcare system has contributed to have the world’s highest life expectancy for both men and women, which is about 82 and 88 years respectively.
Apart from the well-developed healthcare system, a city's transportation system also has a significant impact on city’s development. Our MTR is one of the most reliable subway systems in the world, with a 99.9% on-time rate. We also have the world’s largest double-decker tram system, with over 160 tramcars operating since 1904. This shows a combination of modern and old modes of transportation.
In fact, Hong Kong shares a world record with one of the core cities in the Greater Bay Area. Can you make a guess on the name of the city?
