笃行致远，踔厉奋发 | ECA回顾与展望

The ECA is a global curriculum system, which stands for Extra Curriculum Activity, and was established by The College Board and the International Baccalaureate Organization (IB). The ECA was established by The College Board and the International Baccalaureate Organization (IB) to develop well-rounded individuals and to provide a high quality education for students around the world.

Our ECA curriculum is divided into seven categories: Sports, STEM, Arts, International Perspectives, Inquiry and Practice, Financial Literacy and Academic Extension. There are regular courses such as basketball, badminton, dance, karate and cooking, as well as innovative courses such as financial literacy, creative education (MG) and flight simulation. The courses are integrated into the regular class schedule so that students' learning does not just stop at the interest level, but is developed at a deeper level according to the progression of their abilities.

Sports and Athletics covers nearly twenty sports including basketball, badminton, table tennis, tennis, golf, Frisbee, football, rugby, volleyball, karate, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, traditional martial arts and Taekwondo. Sports are used as the basic form to improve students' physical fitness and various comprehensive skills, and to develop a good sense of teamwork, strategy and healthy lifestyle habits.

STEM classes are based on the four disciplines of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, and are derived from a number of courses such as Chemistry Experiment, 3D Printing, Mecha Master, Flight Simulation, Mago, ASJ Science and Technology Innovation, Mathematics Competition, Chemistry Competition and Physics Competition. In the form of subjects + competitions, students develop hands-on skills, a sense of innovation and the ability to apply their professional knowledge.

The arts enrichment category is the richest and includes dance, music, art, literature, drama and design, with nearly 30 courses including pottery, graffiti spray painting, clay sculpture, costume design, drama performance, guitar, piano, hulusi, harp flute, African drums, street dance, K-Pop dance, hard brush calligraphy, tea art, Chinese painting, choir and band.

With over 100 courses available this semester, the ECA allows students to choose from a wide range of courses to suit their interests, needs and strengths. The aim is to stimulate students' interest and potential in all aspects of learning by exploring key areas such as language and humanities, music and art, science and technology, innovation and creativity, sport and health, environment and life sciences.

Throughout the academic year, we offer a wide range of sports, cultural and arts programmes and activities for our students, as well as taking them out into the world and participating in competitions. Thanks to the dedication of our teachers and the fantastic performances of our students, the ECA has achieved many successes and achievements.

The ASDAN Moot is organised by the World Youth Economic Forum (WYEF), an international youth economic summit co-sponsored by ASDAN China and related world-renowned academic organisations, and is open to secondary school students worldwide. Our participants were awarded the Best Roadshow Award, the third place in Operational Decision Making and the Bronze Award in the Young Entrepreneur Certificate. Two of our students, Yan Wenhao and Feng Ziao, won the bronze medal in the ASDAN High School Regional Business Competition. Feng Zi'ao was the winner of the Global Final.

The Waterloo Chemistry Competition, organised by the Department of Chemistry at the University of Waterloo, is widely recognised by leading universities in Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom, and attracts top high school students from around the world every year. After a year of study and hard work, the students, under the guidance of two coaches, Zhou Gang and Wang Yuxiu, overcame all the difficulties to achieve remarkable results in the 2023 Waterloo Chemistry Competition. Among them, Peng Yiyin, Su Boyu and Xu Tenqian won the top 25% of the world, while Li Yingxu, Dong Yanyang and Wu Huaxi won the top 10% of the country.

To give parents a better understanding of what is happening in the classroom, this term ECA also held an open campus day and opened an exhibition of ECA's work to bring ECA out of campus and parents into the ECA classroom.

Parents stopped by to admire the wide range of ECA works, including gorgeous costume designs, lifelike clay sculptures and technologically-inspired 3D prints. Many parents were delighted to experience the rich and colourful ECA classes and felt as if they were back in their energetic student days.

With the aim of creating a student-centred learning environment, we have set up experiential classes for the new ECA courses in order to achieve a teachable, enjoyable and rewarding classroom experience. We have tailored the ECA curriculum to be student-centred, enjoyable and learning-focused, taking into account the teachability, enjoyment and value of the course.

We arranged a total of seven experience sessions from the perspectives of sports, art and mind development, taking into account the sense of experience and feasibility, including traditional table tennis, fun-filled pikeball, cool skateboarding, novel trampoline, rigorous architectural design and artistic sculpture experience. The exciting experience classes ended with a great deal of laughter from the students.

Next term ECA will expand and innovate on its original planning, becoming more diverse, more complete and more systematic, striving to create a student-centred learning environment in a happy way, providing a high quality whole-person education, living up to parents' expectations, empowering children holistically and realising the educational vision of success for every child at ASJ.

In the coming year, the ECA will add new sports and athletic classes such as pikeball, skateboarding and boxing, and a number of new language courses such as Spanish, French and Korean. The ECA will introduce further education guidance, IELTS training and more high quality subject competitions to give students a higher, bigger and broader stage, in addition to the existing course tutorials and academic competitions.

We also plan to introduce the study of non-traditional techniques in ECA classes, offering courses in paper-cutting, emerald-painting, cloth-dyeing and silk-press enamelling. At the same time, we are committed to nurturing not only young students who are up-to-date, but also those who are ahead of their time, through the teaching of photography, aerial photography and Python artificial intelligence programming.
