贝马修先生是一位经验丰富的教育家，他有着超过30年的教育经验，他毕业于剑桥大学哈默顿学院并获得了物理学荣誉教育学士学位，以及英国国家校长职业资格证书。贝马修先生在2008年首次担任校长的职位，之后他又领导了在中国、马来西亚、科威特和阿曼等国家的国际学校。贝马修先生在中、小学都有任教经历，他在英国国家课程和国际文凭计划方面拥有丰富的经验。他的教育理念是确保每个孩子在课堂内外都能发挥自己的潜力，他的目标是支持每个孩子成为成功的终身学习者和全面发展的个体，确保每个孩子在学校期间都安全、快乐并取得良好的成绩。

贝马修先生有三个孩子，分别是Oscar、Felix和Silas。Oscar最近从大学毕业了，而Felix和Silas将于今年九月开始上大学。三个孩子在中国香港和内地学习期间也习得了粤语和普通话，贝马修先生也期望未来能进一步深化他的普通话学习。工作之余，贝马修先生喜欢旅行和户外活动，特别是骑自行车、潜水、徒步旅行和登山。他特别自豪于自己曾经骑行穿越阿曼的多法尔沙漠，并成为第一个徒步穿越委内瑞拉安赫尔瀑布的人。

Mr. Matthew Bristow is an experienced educator with over 30 years of experience in education. He graduated from Homerton College, University of Cambridge, with an Honours Bachelor Degree in Education in Physics and holds the UK National Professional Qualification for Headship. Mr. Matthew first served as principal in 2008 and has since led international schools in China, Malaysia, Kuwait, and Oman. He has taught in primary and secondary schools, and has extensive experience in the British National Curriculum and International Baccalaureate programmes. His educational philosophy is to ensure that every child reaches their potential in and out of the classroom. His aim is to support each child to become a successful lifelong learner and well-rounded individual, making sure every child is safe, happy, and achieving well whilst they are at school.

Matthew has three children - Oscar, Felix, and Silas. Oscar recently graduated from university while Felix and Silas will be starting university this September. All three children learned Cantonese and Mandarin whilst in China. Matthew also hopes to further deepen his Mandarin studies in the future. In his free time, Matthew enjoys travel and outdoor activities, particularly cycling, subaqua diving, hiking, and mountaineering. He is particularly proud of having cycled the length of Oman across the Dhofar Desert and of being the first person to trek to the top of Angel Falls in Venezuela.

大家好！我叫Matthew Britstow，你们也可以叫我的中文名字——贝马修！我非常高兴和荣幸被任命为广州耀华国际教育学校的外籍校长！我期待着在未来的岁月里与你们每一位见面，了解每一位广州耀华的学子，还有社区内的各位伙伴！

在此，我谨向广州耀华国际教育学校社区的全体成员致以最真挚的问候！我很高兴能够来到这里，并有机会与广州耀华校园里的这些敬业的教育工作者、员工和学生一起共事。

在选择加入广州耀华之前，我有30年的教育从业经历——我于1993年毕业于剑桥大学，毕业后在英国当了10年的老师；20年前，我在中国香港开始了我的国际教育生涯；我的第一个校长职位是在一所新加坡的学校。此后，我在中国、马来西亚、科威特和阿曼等国家都担当各类学校领导岗位。

这是我第二次在中国内地工作。在2010年，我很荣幸参与到江西某国际学校的创办工作。从那时到现在，这所学校都是江西省唯一的一所国际化学校。

我坚信教育的力量可以丰富孩子们的生活，我也坚信每个孩子都应享受个性化的学习体验。耀中耀华教育网络在国际教育界享有盛誉，它的广州校区（广州耀华）是一个非常特别的地方，我希望继续发扬这所学校优秀的传统、愿景和使命。我致力于为孩子们提供机会，以让他们能够充分发挥最高的学术潜力，确保他们独特的个性和兴趣得到培养和发展。

展望未来，作为外籍校长，我的目标是与校区的领导团队（SLT）一起，带领广州耀华国际教育学校的继续发展并取得辉煌成就，尤其是继续获得国际学校理事会(CIS)的认证。我全心全意地相信，我们可以一起继续建立一个有吸引力和支持性的环境，让我们的学生在学术和个人成长方面都能茁壮成长。

Ni Hao, wo jiao Bei Ma Siu. Hello, my name is Matthew Bristow. I am extremely pleased and honoured to be appointed to YWIES Guangzhou as the Western Co-Principal. I am looking forward to meeting and getting to know each and every one of you over the coming months and years.

I would like to extend my warmest greetings to all members of the YWIES Guangzhou community. I am thrilled to be here and to have the opportunity to work with such dedicated educators, staff, and students.

I come to YWIES Guangzhou with 30 years of experience in education. I graduated from Cambridge University in 1993 and spent 10 years teaching in the United Kingdom before starting my international education career in Hong Kong, China, 20 years ago. My first head of school position was as a Principal in Singapore. I have since led schools in China, Malaysia, Kuwait and Oman.

This is the 2nd time I have worked in the mainland of China. I was privilege to have been able to found an international school in Nanchang in 2010. It was and still is the only International School in Jiangxi Province.

I hold a great belief in the power of education to enrich children’s lives and the right of every child to experience an individualised experience. The YCYW Foundation has an excellent reputation in the international education community and it is clear that YWIES Guangzhou is a very special place and I wish to continue its legacy, vision and mission. I am dedicated to providing opportunities for children to realise their highest academic potential, ensuring their unique personalities and interests are nurtured and developed to their fullest.

Moving forward, my goal as the Western Co-Principal will be to work as part of the Senior Leadership Team to lead the continued development and success of YWIES Guangzhou in particular our efforts to be come arredited withe the Council of International School (CIS). I wholeheartedly believe that together we can continue to build an engaging and supportive environment where our students thrive both academically and personally.

I would like to express my gratitude for being given the opportunity to join such a remarkable community. I am eager to collaborate with all of you in pursuit of academic excellence and to foster a love of lifelong learning in our students.I look forward to meeting each and every one of you personally. Together, we will make YWIES Guangzhou an exceptional place for our students to learn, grow and thrive.

您对广州这座城市了解多少？What do you know about the city of Guangzhou?

虽然曾经在香港和南昌生活过八年，但是关于广州，我只在 2003年从英国到香港度假的途中进行过一日的游览，机场倒是来过很多次。现在的广州自我第一次到访以来，发生了很大的变化，庆幸的是接下来会有更多的机会深入了解它。我热爱自行车骑行，计划在广州以及周边地区进行骑行和游览。作为一名前海军的领航员，我喜欢地图，并且在过去的几个月里通过百度地图对广州进行了线上的搜索和研究。其中一些在地图上发现的地方，已经让我跃跃欲试，期望去一探真容。

Although I have lived in Hong Kong and Nanchang for 8 years, I have only ever visited the city of Guangzhou, once on a day tour from Hong Kong whilst on holiday from the UK in 2003. I have though I have been through the airport many times. It has changed a lot since my first visit! I am delighted that I will now have the opportunity to explore the city in great depth. I am a keen cyclist and will be planning many trips into Guangzhou as well as the surrounding areas. As an ex-navigator in the Navy I love maps. I have been pouring over maps of the city and exploring it online using Baidu maps for the last few months. I have already enjoyed finding the actual locations of many areas I have visited virtually.

您对您的新职位感觉如何？How do you feel about your new position?

我很高兴能回到中国并加入广州耀华。耀中耀华机构在国际教育领域享有盛誉，能成为耀华广州校区的核心成员之一是我的荣幸。虽然已经从事教育工作30年，但是投入到一所具有漫长的历史底蕴且不断持续发展的机构中，并与来自世界各地的优秀教育工作者共事，也会让我在其中不断地学习和成长。在恒久的教育旅途中，广州耀华的这段旅程让我充满期待，希望能为广州耀华社区的发展和提升做出贡献。

I am very excited to be returning to China and joining YWIES Guangzhou. YCYW has an excellent reputation in the international education community and I am very privileged to have been appointed to co-lead YWIES Guangzhou. Although I have been in education for 30 years I am coming to a foundation steeped in history of educational development and I know I will continue to learn and grow while working alongside colleagues with skills and experiences gained from all over the world. Education is always a journey and I am looking forward to being part of the school’s journey as we work to continue to develop and improve YWIES Guangzhou for the community it serves.

您的教育理念是什么？What is your educational philosophy?

我的教育理念有三大支柱，分别是学生福祉、教育知识和社区建设。我坚信，将“以学生为中心”的课程，与人文关怀和课外活动相结合，才能确保学生们成为具有协作能力和自信心的思考者和全球公民，从而在不断发展变化的世界中获得成功。我的关注点主要在于学生的全面发展，以及为学生提供课堂内外的学习机会。

我的目标是支持每个学生成为成功的终身学习者和全面发展的个人，确保每个孩子都能够在耀华健康快乐地成长，并发挥他们最大的潜力。在接下来的学年中，我将与教学以及非教学团队建立紧密的合作，确保学校更好地运作并出色地完成学年目标。此外，CIS的认证也将使学校以最高的学术要求作为自评基准。

My teaching philosophy is underpinned by three pillars; pupil wellbeing, pedagogical knowledge and community building. I believe strongly in blending student-centred curriculum, pastoral care and co-curricular activities, ensuring students become collaborative and confident global thinkers prepared to lead an honourable life in a sustainable world. I focus on developing the whole child and providing opportunities within and beyond the classroom.

My aim is to support each student to become a successful lifelong learner and well-rounded individual, ensuring every child is safe, happy and achieving their highest potential at YWIES Guangzhou. I plan to build strong bonds with YWIES families' academic and administrative teams to ensure we have all our systems in place for an outstanding academic year. In addition, the CIS accreditation process will allow us to benchmark YWIES against the highest academic standards.

您关于学校的发展有哪些策略或规划？What are your strategic plans for school development?

作为新任外籍校长，我即将加入的是一个非常成功的学校领导团队，我将以自己的经验和技能与学校实际情况结合，为学校三年发展计划的实现提供帮助和指导。学校发展计划中的一个主要部分是使学校获得国际学校理事会CIS的认证，目前耀华广州校区已经是CIS的普通会员学校，在未来的18-24个月中，我将与所有学校成员通力合作完成认证工作。

As the new Western Co-Principal I will be joining a very successful Senior Leadership Team and bringing my skills and experiences to helping the school achieve the goals set in the three year School Development Plan by providing support, guidance and leadership. A major part of the school development plan is working towards getting the school accredited as a Council of International Schools (CIS) school. The school is already a candidate school and I look forward to working with all the stakeholders in the 18 - 24 month period left of the accreditation process.
