Intricate Relationship Between the Body and Mind 师说特辑 | 身心的相互关系

The Year 1 students at ISA Tianhe explored the significance of their own perspectives as they were introduced to their first Unit of Inquiry (UOI): Who We Are. Focusing on the intricate relationship between the body and mind, the students were afforded a valuable opportunity to delve into the fundamental requirements for survival and overall well-being.

爱莎天河一年级的学生们在学习第一个探究单元(UOI)时,以第一人称的视角探索了“我们是谁”。探究单元以身体和心灵的相互关系为重点,给学生们提供了一个宝贵的机会,让他们深入探讨人类生存的最基本要求以及如何保持健康。

"Who Are We" is an inquiry into the nature of the self; beliefs and values; personal, physical, mental, social and spiritual health; human relationships including families, friends, communities, and cultures; rights and responsibilities; what it means to be human.

我们是谁”是对自我本质的探究;对信仰与价值观的探究;对个人、身体、心智、社交和精神健康的探究;对各种人际关系,包括家庭、朋友、社区和文化的探究;对权利和责任的探究;对作为人的意义的探究。





Throughout this unit, each student gained invaluable insights into the concepts of responsibility, perspective, and causation, thereby fostering a deeper comprehension of their own identities and the necessary steps they must take to maintain their health and happiness. Moreover, they took great strides in understanding how they can assist others, by offering invaluable advice to their friends and family on how best to nurture both their physical and mental well-being.

通过本单元的学习,学生对健康的责任、视角、因果关系等概念均有了宝贵的认知,从而帮助他们对自己的身份与如何保持健康和幸福有了更深刻的理解。同时,学生懂得了如何更好地帮助他人,因此他们向朋友和家人提供了宝贵的建议,告诉他人如何更好地保持身心健康。


Notably, the students also delved into the idea that the brain can act like a muscle. This revelation served as a catalyst for their understanding that the brain, like a muscle, thrives and strengthens as we acquire new knowledge and confront challenges head-on. Furthermore, the concept of ‘The Power of Yet’ instilled in them the notion that mistakes serve as stepping stones towards growth and learning, encouraging them to persevere in the face of daunting or challenging tasks.

学生们还深入探讨了“我们的大脑就像肌肉”这一观点。人的大脑就像肌肉,在获取新知识和迎接直面挑战之后,将变得越来越聪明。除此而外,学生们也理解了“专注过程,而不是结果”这一概念,他们懂得了错误是成长和学习道路上的垫脚石,以鼓励他们在面对艰巨或具有挑战性的任务时坚持不懈,战胜困难,取得成功。


As a culmination of their learning journey, for their Summative Assessment, the students were tasked with the creating a video, where they provided thoughtful responses to the lines of inquiry pertaining to their body and mind.

接近探究之旅尾声时,学生们录制了一段视频作为探究单元的总结性评估。在视频中,他们对身心健康有关的探究问题做出了深思熟虑的回答。

Hopefully, Year 1 students will be able to take the knowledge acquired during their initial Unit of Inquiry and integrate it into their learning journeys throughout the rest of the academic year.

Carly has moved around the world most of her life where she was able to experience diverse cultures and new languages in places such as Venezuela, Saudi Arabia, Canada, and Colombia. She moved back to Colombia in 2018, which is where her teaching experience started. She has 5 years’ experience teaching in international schools.
