ISA Liwan adheres to the concept of holistic education, emphasizing the comprehensive development of students in various aspects such as sports, knowledge, culture, and community service. Through the house system, the school cultivates students' leadership skills, good behavior, and values, better meeting the social and emotional needs of students.

爱莎荔湾秉持全人教育理念,注重培养学生在体育、知识、文化和社区服务等多方面的全面发展。学校通过学院制培养学生的领导技能、良好行为和价值观,更好地实现对学生的社会情感需求的满足。



As a prominent feature of ISA Liwan, the key advantage of the house system lies in integrating students from different grades. Students, whether in higher or lower grades, actively take on responsibilities within their respective houses, participate in various engaging activities, and establish close communication and collaboration. The house system also allocates students and staff to their respective houses, providing solid support for students' comprehensive development in sports, academic and cultural pursuits, community service, and social welfare, helping them face challenges in various fields.

作为爱莎荔湾的一大特色,学院制的关键优势在于将不同年级的学生融合在一起,无论是高年级还是低年级的学生,都主动地担当起各自学院的职责,参加各种有趣的活动,建立十分紧密的交流协作,为院舍在各种竞赛活动中争取荣誉。学院制还将学生和教职员工分配到各自的学院,这一巧妙的制度为同学们的全面发展构建了坚实支撑,助力他们在体育竞技、知识文化、社区服务和社会公益等多领域迎难而上。

Houses System

The whole school community has been assigned to four houses which are added together to create our Chinese motto: we need to have the Chinese characters here which could partially translated by Endeavour, Knowledge, Truth, and Benevolence, but have deeper meaning in Chinese culture.

爱莎荔湾四所学院的名字共同组成了学校的校训:弘毅、博学、求真、至善这四个学院都拥有各自的代表符号,分别为竹子、蝴蝶、高山、丝绸,这些符号能够代表每个学院自身所代表的精神和特点。

弘毅,出自《论语》“士不可以不弘毅,任重而道远”一语。意为志存高远、抱负远大、坚韧刚毅。


代表符号:竹子,中国具有丰富的竹文化,竹子象征着坚韧、谦虚和毅力。当同学们遇到瓶颈,没有任何进步和成长时,希望他们不要担心自己此时此刻的付出得不到回报,因为这些付出都是为了扎根,尽管这些努力在一开始并不为人所知,但是在整个过程中他们一直在成长,并且这些努力终有一天会让他们获得成功。

博学,语出《礼记·中庸》“博学之,审问之,慎思之,明辨之,笃行之。”又见《论语·子张》“博学而笃志,切问而近思,仁在其中矣。”“博”有博大、包容、广收、博取之意。博古通今,学贯中西谓之博学。


代表符号:蝴蝶,蝴蝶是美丽的象征,但在它变为蝴蝶前它只是一只毛毛虫,这个破茧成蝶的过程常常来比喻每个人经过努力最后变得知识渊博的过程。知识渊博就如蝴蝶之繁复美丽,爱莎荔湾相信同学们在经历了知识的洗礼后,会变成知识渊博的终身学习者,就像毛毛虫变为蝴蝶,绽放出属于自己的美丽和光芒。

求真,出自《闽中理学渊源考》“求真于未始有伪之先,而性之真可见矣。”意指为博学求知,努力探索规律,追求真理。


代表符号:高山,“ 看山是山,看山不是山,看山还是山”。--我们对世界的感知往往是仓促的、主观的。如愚公移山,真理是难以寻觅的,人们必须努力,透过现象发现本质。爱莎荔湾致力于将每一位同学培养成为“未来的领导者、创新者和终身学习者”,因此希望同学们能够有勇气持续小步前进,超越极限和自我,永不放弃,接近真理。

至善,出自《大学》“大学之道,在明明德,在亲民,在止于至善。”意指为学的根本在于修明自身,用自己学问的道和德的成就,投身社会,亲近人民而为之服务,最终达到完美的境界。


代表符号:丝绸,与中国丝绸之路相关的故事数不胜数,如著名的“郑和下七洋”。郑和是中国明朝的探险家,但是他没有试图征服或殖民到过的国家,更多的是为了与世界分享中国的财富和美丽,以及发展彼此的友谊。爱莎荔湾希望每一位同学都能有像郑和或丝绸一样的精神,对待他人亦或者是其它国家的文化都能展现出包容善良的一面,尊重和拥抱不同的文化。

Endeavour is to be tenacious, but it also means to have high aspirations and ambitions.

 

The symbol of the Bamboo comes from the Parable of the Chinese Bamboo Tree. In Chinese culture, bamboo signifies tenacity, modesty, and perseverance. When students feel they are not growing, they should remember that they should look beyond the appearance and realise that they are also growing roots. Students should use the image of the bamboo to practice endeavor to grow commendable.

Knowledge is to be broad-minded, whose spirit includes being knowledgeable in both theoretical things on books and practical aspects. The symbol of the Butterfly comes from Zhuangzi’s poem about dreaming about being a butterfly. In this poem, knowledge is represented as something complex to grasp, as reality and imagination often interweave and is changing with time.

 

The butterfly is a symbol of beauty, but before it becomes a butterfly one should never forget that it is just an ugly caterpillar. This process of breaking through the cocoon into a butterfly is often used as a metaphor for the process of acquiring knowledge. Being knowledgeable is just like a caterpillar becoming a butterfly. ISA Liwan believes that students will one day become knowledgeable people, just like butterflies, and shine with their own beauty and light.

Truth is to seek the real truth. It means to thrive to go beyond the appearance and go deep into our reflection to try to grasp the complexity of our word.

 

The symbol of mountain comes from the Chinese saying, "I see the mountain, I don’t see the mountain, and I see the mountain”. This sentence contains a deep philosophical truth: how we perceive the world is often rushed, subjective, and our understanding of all things can only be gradually deepened by practice. The symbol of mountain was also inspired by a saying from Laozi "The man who moves a mountain begins by carrying away small stones". which highlight the endurance to go beyond the surface. These two examples should inspire in students’ quest to look for the truth. Our school is highly committed to bring the best out of themselves, so this example should be used a model for students to have the courage to carry on making small steps to see beyond what seems impossible and never give up looking for some truth.

Benevolence has many different meanings, both in terms of doing things perfectly and being good to others.

 

Silk stands for the Silk Roads, and the story of Zheng He's Voyage. Zheng He was an ancient Chinese explorer of the Ming Dynasty. His expeditions were about sharing the beauty and prosperity of China with the world and developing friendships with other countries. They never lead to an invasion and was always a peaceful and rich in cultural exchange. Zheng He left a long lasting mark as a ambassador of China’ talents. ISA Liwan hopes that every student will have the same spirit as Zheng He or Silk, showing the tolerance and kindness towards others and other cultures, respecting, and embracing different cultures and bring high the beauty of their home and host countries.

These four values together form the ISA Liwan's school motto guide our students to be open-minded, analytical, courageous, resilient and caring. While learning to expand their knowledge they are meant to develop their lateral thinking, creativity and charisma to enable them to be the change and make the difference and contribute to better our community, the society and maybe one day the world.

“弘毅、博学、求真、至善”所传达的意蕴在于,师生要有宏伟而开放的思维格局,培养坚韧不拔、勇往直前、不屈不挠的毅力和精神品质。拓展视野,放眼世界,积极吸纳广泛的知识,充实个人内涵,注重吸取各领域精华,不断完善自我。鼓励师生以天下为责任,为国家发展、社会进步贡献力量,共同致力于创造更美好、更和平的世界。

In ISA Liwan, a house is an independent collective unique from classrooms, connecting students vertically across grades, from individual classes to entire grades, with all students evenly distributed among different houses.

Event & Competition

School-wide sports competitions, academic events, and community service initiatives will be organized by houses. The four houses are relatively independent yet closely connected, combining competition and collaboration. Students will have the opportunity to take on leadership roles, manage and coordinate house activities, fully unleashing their leadership qualities.

全校性的体育竞赛、学术活动和社会服务等,将以学院为单位。四个学院既相对独立又紧密相连,既有竞争又有协作。学生们将从活动中尝试担当领导,管理和协调学院活动,充分发挥孩子们的领导力特质。




Token System

积分制

The "house points" acknowledge and incentivize students for achievements such as good behaviour and outstanding performance. The point system applies to all academic and non-academic courses. Students have daily opportunities to earn house points through various means, exploring new learning methods, actively participating in sports competitions, and showcasing their sportsmanship and collaboration. This encourages healthy competition among students and enhances their engagement in classroom and campus life, fostering mutual support and creating a positive cultural atmosphere. In this process, students are encouraged to explore their interests and skills, achieving personal growth and community spirit development.

“学院积分”对学生获得的成就,例如良好的行为和优秀的表现,给予认可和激励。积分制适用于所有的学术类和非学术类课程。同学们每天有机会通过不同的方式获得学院积分,探索新的学习方法,积极参与体育比赛并展示自己的体育精神和协作能力,这些都能够让同学们参与到学院之间的良性竞争,从而更好地帮助他们成长。为学院赢取积分也能够鼓励学生们提升对课堂和对校园生活的参与度,并相互支持,营造良好的文化氛围。在此过程中,学生们被鼓励着去探索自己的兴趣和技能,实现个人成长和社区精神的发展。
