Inquiry Project Presentation | 华外创新融合部九年级科学技术专题探究项目展示

In I-EP, the inquiry project aims to build a platform for students to study in depth and learn independently, cultivate the spirit of inquiry, be responsible for the learning in the process of proactively thinking, and gradually acquire the qualities of IB learners.


In the last inquiry unit of this semester, our science teachers have integrated the scientific elements into the inquiry curriculum, guiding students to understand the development trend of science and technology nowadays, and learn how to solve the scientific problems through experimental methods, which enable them to better understand the nature of science. On January 18, 2024, G9 Inquiry Project Exhibition with the theme of science and technology was held in Tongman Building. In this event, the children have showed their scientific research results to the audiences, which symbolize their effort of the past few days, bringing us an unprecedented feast of science and technology.


在I-EP,探究项目旨在为学生们搭建一个深入研究、自主学习的平台,培养孩子们的探究精神,让他们在独立思考,亲自动手的过程中真正成为学习的主人,并逐渐具备IB学习者的素养。


在本学期最后一个探究单元,I-EP中学的科学老师们将科学技术融入到探究课程,引导学生们了解当今科技的发展趋势,并学会通过用实验的方法解决科学问题,从而更好地理解科学的本质。2024年1月18日,中学九年级科学技术专题探究成果展在同文楼隆重举行。在成果展中,孩子们向观众展示了他们连日来的科研成果,为大家带来了一场前所未有的科技盛宴。

In this inquiry, the G9 students were divided into four groups and conducted the research around four scientific topics respectively including "The application of sensors in artificial intelligence", "The exploration of power cars for different energy conversion", "Light and photosynthetic pigments" and "yeast & wine".

在本次探究中,九年级的孩子们分为了四个小组,围绕着四大主题进行了深入的研究学习,分别为“传感器在人工智能中的应用”、“不同能量转化的动力小车探究”、“光与光合色素”以及“酵母菌和酒”。

传感器在人工智能中的应用

The application of sensors in artificial intelligence


Artificial intelligence is widely used in modern life, and the development of artificial intelligence cannot be separated from the progress of sensors. The team focused on the use of sensors in artificial intelligence. They used light sensors and sound sensors to control electrical fans and water dispensers, and then used microcontrollers to input instructions and electromagnetic relays to achieve intelligent control. In the process of hands-on operation, the children not only learned the basic principle of the sensor, but also had a deeper understanding of how to use the sensor to achieve intelligent control.

人工智能在现代生活中的应用非常广泛,而人工智能的发展离不开传感器的进步。该小组着重探究了传感器在人工智能中的应用。他们通过光传感器和声音传感器来控制日常中的风扇和饮水机,然后通过单片机输入指令和电磁继电器来实现智能化控制。孩子们在动手操作的过程中,不仅学习了传感器的基本原理,对如何使用传感器来实现智能化控制也有了更深的理解。




不同能量转化的动力小车探究

The exploration of power cars for different energy conversion


New energy is also at the forefront of science today. Through the research of the saltwater power car, the team explored the influencing factors of the electric energy generated, such as the salt water concentration, the contact area with the salt water and the electrode material. Then, they used the solar energy as an example to drive the car to achieve the utilization of renewable resources. In the process of inquiry, students became familiar with the transformation of various energies, including chemical energy, electrical energy, light energy and mechanic energy.

新能源也是当今世界发展的前沿科学,该小组通过盐水动力小车的研究,探究了带动小车产生电能大小的影响因素,如盐水浓度、与盐水的接触面积和电极材质。然后,他们以太阳能为例,驱动小车来实现可再生资源的利用。在探究的过程中,学生们熟悉了包括化学能、电能、光能,机械能在内的各种能量的转化。




光与光合色素

Light and photosynthetic pigments


Why do we see leaves appear green in natural light? Why do carrots look orange? What is the relationship between these pigments and light? For these problems, the team launched a series of experiments to explore the scientific mysteries, such as the pigment extraction experiment, the pigment silica gel chromatography experiment, the thin layer chromatography experiment and so on. Through this process, students not only learned relevant knowledge, but also mastered important skills, laying a good foundation for their future study and research.

为什么我们在自然光下看到的叶子是绿色的?为什么胡萝卜是橙色的?这些色素和光之间究竟有什么关系?围绕这些问题,该小组展开了一系列的实验去探究其中的科学奥秘,如色素提取实验,色素硅胶层析实验,薄层层析实验等等。通过这样的过程,学生不仅学到了相关的知识,也掌握了重要的技能,为他们未来的学习和研究奠定了良好的基础。

Wine-making is an ancient and scientific art. Extracting alcohol from natural crops is the result of a delicate collaboration between microbes and natural products, and behind it lies a series of chemical reactions. By exploring the process of wine making, students in this group understood the process of fermentation, learned about the metabolic principles of microorganisms, and improved their scientific literacy and inquiry skills.

酿酒是一门古老而又充满科学的艺术。从自然作物中提取酒精,是微生物与自然产物巧妙合作的结果,背后隐藏着一系列的化学反应。通过探究酿酒的过程,该小组的学生了解了发酵的工艺,学习了微生物的代谢原理,提高了科学素养和科学探究能力。



Everyone had an amazing time with science in this inquiry study and gained a lot in the process. It is important to learn both theoretical and practical skills. We hope that all the students are able to become the IB inquirer, risk-taker and thinker who are knowledgeable by participating in the curriculum crafted by I-EP!


此次探究学习,每个人都度过了一段神奇的科学时光,并且在过程中收获了很多东西。在实践中学习,在学习中实践,愿同学们都能够学有所思,思有所得,在学部精心打造的课程里,逐渐成为勇于尝试、积极探究、勤于思考、知识渊博的IB学习者!
