At ISA Tianhe, we combine the UK curriculum with the IB Primary Framework, this means that we make connections between our Reading Lessons and our Units of Inquiry. It’s never too early to start developing reading skills, and our young learners in EY2 are already enjoying learning to read with the wonderful Oxford Reading Tree series. Within this theme has centered on the fascinating realms of color, music, movement, and performing arts, fostering a holistic approach to learning that engages multiple senses and modalities.

This lesson combined music, colour and movement for the children to engage in a creative and fun way while learning about the Oxford Reading Tree book, “The Big Box”. By weaving these components together, the lesson not only captured the children's attention but also encouraged them to express themselves creatively while engaging with the narrative.

探究学习巧妙地将音乐、色彩与动作相结合,为孩子们创造了一种既充满创意又极具趣味性的学习方式,让他们能够在享受乐趣的同时,深入了解《牛津阅读树》系列中的《大盒子》一书。通过将这些元素融合在一起,不仅吸引了孩子们的注意力,还极大地激发了他们在跟随故事情节发展的过程中,以创造性的方式表达自我的热情。


The focus of these early reading lessons is on building and extending vocabulary. Through ‘The Big Box’ the children were introduced to words such as ‘fragile, This Way Up, collapse, Floppy and Our House. Language skills covered were use of predictive language, recount, and comparative language. 

早期阅读课程着重于培养词汇的累积与拓展。通过阅读《大盒子》系列书籍,孩子们掌握了“脆弱”、“往上走”、“坍塌”、“软绵绵”以及“我们的房子”等新词汇。同时,课程还注重培养孩子们的语言技能,包括使用预测性语言来猜测故事走向,复述故事内容以加深理解,以及运用比较性语言来分析故事中的元素。

During the session, children were also given the opportunity to utilize both their fine motor skills, which involve precise manipulation of objects, and their gross motor skills, which encompass larger movements of the body, to create intricate patterns and vibrant paintings on boxes. This hands-on activity allowed them to explore their artistic side while simultaneously reinforcing their understanding of colors, shapes, and spatial awareness. The boxes, once transformed into colorful works of art, were then incorporated into outdoor play, inspiring imaginative and inventive games that further enriched their learning experience.

在课堂上,孩子们获得了自由发挥的机会,得以运用他们手部精细动作,如精确的操作物体,和大幅度的身体运动技能,在盒子上创作出复杂多变的图案和栩栩如生的画作。这样的动手实践活动不仅让他们挖掘并探索自身的艺术潜能,还加深了对颜色搭配、形状构成以及空间感知的理解。而当这些盒子摇身一变,成为色彩斑斓的艺术品后,它们又被巧妙地运用到户外游戏中,极大地激发了孩子们的想象力和创造力,为他们的学习体验增添了更为丰富多元的色彩。
