On 9 November, the first high school Model United Nations club of our ECA programme started an exciting journey of academic exploration and practical experience.
Simulation of discussions on global issues
Fourteen students from the ECA club left school early for their first real-life battle in their modelling journey. This event is not only a competition, but also an excellent opportunity for students to expand their horizons and improve their abilities.
In the conference hall of the Mock Conference, students were dressed in formal attire and looked solemn, just like the diplomatic elites of countries around the world. With the complex and serious global issue of the Middle East at the centre of their discussion, they engaged in an exciting and intelligent simulation of international affairs.
In the simulation discussion, students put forward many creative and constructive proposals for the peaceful settlement of the Middle East issue by virtue of their excellent negotiation skills and superb writing ability. They used diplomatic rhetoric skilfully, sometimes arguing with reason, sometimes seeking consensus, fully demonstrating the style of future diplomats.
In the end, after a day of fierce competition, Chen from the Modelling Club stood out from the crowd and won the ‘Honourable Mention’ award for his outstanding leadership, keen insight and excellent performance.
A Platform to
Showcase Yourself
After the competition, the participating students said: ‘This Model United Nations Competition not only provides a platform for us to show ourselves and challenge ourselves, but also makes us deeply understand the complexity of international affairs and the important role of the United Nations in maintaining world peace and development. Mr. Ding, the instructor of the Simulation Club, said, ‘This competition is not only a test of the students’ knowledge and ability, but also a valuable experience on their path of growth, which inspires them to continue to move forward on the road of Model United Nations, and I hope they will keep up the good work.’
ECA is short for Extra-Curricular Activities, which means ‘extra-curricular activities’, and is an extension of the traditional classroom for ASJ students, enabling them to develop their moral, intellectual, physical, social, and aesthetic skills, and to shape their unique selves. The ECA programme is divided into six divs: Sports, STEM, Art Education, Sentiments, International Perspectives, and Exploration and Practice.
As an important part of the ECA programme, the Model United Nations Club provides a platform for students to learn about international affairs, practice diplomatic skills and improve their overall quality. Through participating in Model United Nations activities, students can broaden their international vision, enhance their sense of teamwork, and improve their communication and problem-solving skills.
