Year 6 School Life Memories 六年级学生学年回顾：佛山霍利斯令我变得更加自信！

在上个学期，我们采访了两位优秀的六年级学生Jenny和Jimmy，邀请他们给大家分享佛山霍利斯的校园生活以及学校的独特魅力。

Jenny充分践行了学校校训——“希望垂青勇者”，敢于挑战自己，除了参加学校音乐会的表演，还充分利用学校众多的课外和校园活动，大胆尝试新鲜事物，比如舞蹈、舞狮、演讲、大会发言，全方位提升自己的能力。

Jimmy对待学习和生活都专心致志和充满热情，做任何事情都会投入最大程度的努力。他在各科表现都很出色，特别是在英语方面。在去年10月份，Jimmy在That’s及Urban Family举办的全国英文写作竞赛中，凭借创意短篇小说赢得第一名，然后又在上个学期的演讲竞赛中，凭借鼓舞人心的英语演讲赢得冠军。
我很喜欢充实且快乐的学习生活。每天六个课时的学习加上校园活动例如运动会和莎士比亚周，让我觉得很忙碌和充实。我们也会挤出时间参加校园音乐会表演等。
我从澳大利亚来到佛山霍利斯，一开始觉得有些不适应，因为这里的课时比较长，而且学校模式也与澳大利亚学校的不同。但是在这里大家都很热情友好，我很快就适应了这里的校园生活。我觉得每个学生都能很好地融入这个大家庭。
我喜欢我们的音乐老师Hobourn先生，因为他不像其他学校的老师一样只在音乐课上教理论知识。在课堂上我们有很多练习声乐和唱歌的机会，因为学校相信音乐学习不只是学习什么是半音符之类的知识，还需要做很多实践练习。Hobourn先生尽心尽力地帮我们发掘很多表演机会，组织不同的音乐会，并鼓励我们大胆自信在舞台上展现自己的才华。
我并没有特定喜欢的一位老师。我认为每位老师都有自己的优势和长处，都值得我去向他们学习。
这是一个富有凝聚力的学校社区，同学们之间彼此扶持和帮助，我们之间也会有良性竞争，大家都想着为自己的学院赢取多一些学院积分。
我觉得佛山霍利斯是一个热闹的蓬勃发展的学校社区，在这里老师和学生们都充满热情。尽管学生们的文化背景各不相同，但还是能够认识很多新朋友和交流不同话题，很容易与大家打成一片。
我喜欢的课外活动是舞蹈和健身，因为在这些活动上我能学习不同种类的舞蹈，Joanna*也是一位很优秀的小老师。我喜欢在学校里能够自由选择做自己可以做和喜欢做的事情，让我们增长见识，并能够平衡学习和娱乐。课外活动也给了我们尝试新活动的机会，例如中国的舞狮和西方的篮球。
*备注：Joanna 是我校七年级学生，在中国舞蹈方面富有天赋和表演经验。她是佛山霍利斯舞蹈社团的负责人，在课外活动时间上给其他学生分享和教授中国舞蹈的知识和技巧。
我喜欢学校课外活动的主要原因是它的多样性。每个学期都会更换活动课表，但是你总能找到一个喜欢的活动。我参加了篮球和羽毛球活动，这都是我的新尝试。课外活动的好处之一就是能够鼓励学生们多尝试新事物。每天学术课后都有两个小时的课外活动时间，让我们去学习一些课堂以外的知识技能，尝试不同活动，探索自己的兴趣爱好。
在佛山霍利斯学习了一年之后，你觉得自己在哪些方面取得了进步？
我觉得在舞台上表演的时候，我的自信心有了很大的提升。我还记得刚来学校的时候，每当站在舞台上我都会觉得很紧张，而现在我已经能够轻松应对。此外，我的英语也有很大的进步，能够很好地用英语表达自己的想法。在课堂内外大家都会用英语交流。
在佛山霍利斯学习，我在学校倡导的8C品质方面有了很大的提升。例如自信心（confidence），因为老师们总是支持和鼓励我突破自己的界限去尝试新的东西，以及协作力（collaboration）或沟通力（communication），因为我经常参与到我的同学或其他学生的小组讨论或课堂作业中。
当然了，而且我相信在未来佛山霍利斯会不断发展壮大，成为一所成功的学校。我是佛山霍利斯第一批六年级学生，也是学校历史的创造者和见证者！
我很自豪能够成为佛山霍利斯的学生，我相信其他学生也是这么想的。佛山霍利斯是一个蓬勃发展的学校社区，为学生提供许多外出参加活动和比赛的机会。在这里真好！
作为一所学校，我们很自豪能够看到学生们顺利融入学校大家庭，适应校园生活，积极参加学术和课外活动，提升和发展自己成为充满活力的有志青年。佛山霍利斯将会继续致力于提供高品质的英式全人教育，激励学生们成长为最优秀的自己。
LEH Foshan is a place of opportunity, challenge and friendship; a place to discover passions and talents; and a place that nurtures remarkable young people. Here every student is respected, embraced and celebrated. They are given not only the physical space but also the emotional space to express and develop themselves through a well-balanced academic programme and a plethora of extra-curricular activities.
During last term, we interviewed two of our remarkable and talented, students, Jenny and Jimmy from Year 6 to learn more about their school life and offer our community some insights into what makes LEH Foshan an inspiring school.
Tutor's Comment
Exemplifying the school motto – Hope Favours the Bold, Jenny never hesitates to challenge herself. Since joining LEH Foshan, she has been taking an active role in performing in school concerts and trying new activities in ECA sessions and different school events, including dancing, lion dances, public speech, and assembly presentations. Jenny has grown and developed in many aspects.
Tutor's Comment
Jimmy is a dedicated and enthusiastic student that puts his best effort into everything he does. Jimmy is excelling in all subjects but it is clear he has real passion for English throughout his schooling here winning the first external event representing LEH Foshan with his reading of his published short story in the That’s & Urban Family awards in October and then going on to excel with his inspiring English declamation win just a few weeks before the Summer term.
What do you like about the school life at LEH Foshan?
I like how we can have busy study and fun at the same time. We have 6 periods a day and I know it will be a busy day for me, but we still celebrate sports day and Shakespeare Week and squeeze some time for the concert and things like that.
I came to LEH Foshan from Australia, I haven’t really been used to the school when I first entered, it was longer and worked a lot more differently than the ones in Australia, but the school was very welcoming, and not after long, I wasvery used to it. I feel like anyone could get used to LEH Foshan.
Who is your favourite teacher and why?
Mr Hobourn is my favourite teacher because not like other schools who only do theory in music class, we do lots of singing because we believe that music needs some real things not just knowing what semiquaver or things like that, and he gave us every opportunity that he can find by organising lots of concerts and encourage us to show our talent.
I do not have a favourite teacher. Every teacher has their positives, and I can learn from every one of them.
How would you describe the LEH Foshan Community?
I think it is a close community; people are supportive and, as we all want to win more house points for our own House.
I would describe the LEH Foshan community as a bustling, enthusiastic group of supporters and learners. It’s great being a part of the community, compact with all types of people, and finding people that you could befriend and talk to is easy, because of all the student’s sundry cultural backgrounds.
What do you like about the ECA programme at LEH Foshan?
My favourite ECA is Dance and Fitness because I enjoy that we can do different dances together and I think Joanna* is a great teacher. I like how we can choose what we can do and do what we like in school and ensure we are mindful and get the balance right between work and play. And also, we can try different things as Chinese as lion dance and as western as playing basketball.
*Note: Joanna is our Y7 student and a talented dancer of Chinese Dance. She is leading the Dance Club in school and shares her expertise with other students during ECAsession.
The primary reason why I like the ECA system is because of its variety, there has to be at least ONE ECA that you would like each term. I signed up for Basketball, and I often hit the badminton shuttles with great relish as I love trying out new things, and that’s one of the great things about ECAs as well. You can so easily learn, or at least try out different things from the 2 hours after school and potentially unravel a new passion within you.
What progress do you see in yourself after studying at LEH Foshan for a year?
I think I have improved my confidence in performing on stage, I remember when I first came to LEH I was nervous when I went on stage and now, I just take it easy. And also, I think my English has improved a lot, I can express myself when speaking English, and in this school English is spoken everywhere.
As a learner in LEH, the school has really helped me develop my 8 Cs, for example my confidence, as the teachers are always supportive and encouraging to push me out of my boundaries to try new things, or my collaboration or communication from always participating in group or classwork with my classmates or other students.
Are you proud of yourself as an LEH Foshan student?
Yes, because I believe that one day LEH Foshan will grow into a big and successful school. As a student in the first Year 6 Cohort, I am making history.
I am proud to be a student of LEH Foshan, as I don’t think anyone would be ashamed being here. A great, lively community that participates in a lot of outside activities or competitions. Being here is great.
As a school, we cannot be prouder to see our students being embraced and settling smoothly in the LEH Foshan community, proactively participating in academic and extra-curricular activities, and growing into dynamic young adults.
