本期校长说栏目邀请到我校的外方校长Dr. Timothy Fryer。他有着35年国际教育经验，作为
IBDP化学老师和考官，常年在IB学校任教，并且曾担任CAS和DP协调员。
Dr. Timothy Fryer有多年倡导全人教育的经验，拥有应用化学理学学士学位、化学教育研究生证书、教育学硕士学位，并获得英国莱斯特大学教育学博士学位，主要研究领域为双语国际教育。
另外，他也是一位经验丰富的CIS访校认证团队成员，并且带领他的学校获得了CIS认证。值得一提的是，在他的带领下，我们的兄弟学校苏州海归人才子女学校，仅仅两年就已获得国际文凭组织(IBO)的IBDP授权，成为IB世界学校一员。

我在香港汉基国际学校工作期间，完成了我的博士论文，选题是“中英双语教学在国际教育中的研究”。我认为，厦门华锐莱普顿学校完美地体现了我在研究中得出的示范模式结论。我很高兴，能够与大家一起建设这样一所创新型的高质量学校。
在苏州海归人才子女学校（OCAC）担任外方校长的两年后，我选择来到厦门华锐莱普顿学校。作为外方校长，我将借鉴苏州学校成功的办学经验与模式，帮助厦门学校迅速成长。在过去的30年中，我曾在德国、印度、中国（内地和香港）、阿拉伯联合酋长国（阿布扎比）的多所IB学校中工作。在这些学校中，家校间的紧密关系以及每一个家庭对学校愿景和使命的清晰理解，是学生取得成功的基础。我既是IB化学考官，也是经验丰富的国际学校评估委员会成员。
这是莱普顿公学和中锐教育之间的首次合作，这次合作为中英教育以及国际都带来了宝贵的教育资源与丰富的经验。以学校为基础，结合优质的教育观点，将CRS打造成为一个具有独特性、专业性，并且充满激情和挑战的学校。通过IB的教学框架，在一个双语浸泡式的环境中，来教授中国义务教育课程的内容，学校将培养出既有中国深厚文化底蕴又有全球视野的学生。

Dear CRS Community：
A very warm welcome to Chiway Repton School Xiamen. Our vision is to become a model of K-12 integrated Chinese and International education. Thank you for joining us on this exciting journey as we work together as a diverse international community of learners to establish a world class school here in beautiful Xiamen.
My doctoral thesis, written while working at Chinese International School in Hong Kong, was an exploration of Mandarin and English dual-language, international education. Chiway Repton School Xiamen embodies the conclusions I reached in my study about what an exemplary model could be, and I am thrilled to be here to help to build an innovative, high quality school.
Having moved to CRS after two wonderful years at OCAC Suzhou as International Principal, where I helped the school to grow rapidly and successfully, I bring with me a wealth of learning from my experience. I have worked in five IB schools in the past 30 years, in Germany, India, China (Mainland and Hong Kong), Abu Dhabi, and in all these schools, the close relationship with parents and a clear focus on the vision and mission underpin student success. I am an examiner for Chemistry in the IB Diploma and I am an experienced Council of International Schools Evaluator.
The first partnership between Repton and Chiway brings a tremendous wealth of educational knowledge and experience in UK, Chinese and International education. Integrating these multiple perspectives on education into the foundations of the school make CRS a truly unique, challenging and professionally stimulating place to work. In delivering the Chinese National Curriculum through the IB inquiry approach to teaching and learning in a dual-language setting, the school will produce students who have deep roots in Chinese culture and sophisticated global perspectives.
Our focus will always be on the students at the heart of our school. Xiamen Reptonians will be well rounded, confident, internationally minded and flexible young people who are well equipped to solve the problems of the 21st century.

Q: You are from UK，and why would you choose to stay in Xiamen? 您来自于英国，为什么会想要留在厦门？
Yes, I am originally from the UK, but I haven’t lived there since 1990. I have worked in five IB schools in the past 30 years, in Germany, India, China (Mainland and Hong Kong), Abu Dhabi. My recent experience in the beautiful city of Suzhou at OCAC helping to develop a truly integrated dual language Chinese International curriculum was great preparation for my move to Xiamen. I find Xiamen a very friendly place and I love the mix of urban, coastal and green landscapes here and of course the fresh clean air.
是的，我来自英国，但是自从1990年以来我一直没有住在英国，在过去的30年中，我曾在德国、印度、中国（内地和香港）、阿拉伯联合酋长国（阿布扎比）的多所IB学校中工作。在苏州OCAC学校，我们成功地开发了以中国国家课程为纲领，以IB探究式教学方法为指导的双语融合课程。这也为我加入厦门学校做好了充分准备。厦门是一个非常友好的城市，拥有美丽的海岸线，充满生机的城市景观和清新的空气。
Q: As an IBDP Chemistry examiner, what do you think are the advantages of IB? 您作为IB 考官，您认为IB有哪些优势呢？
IBDP students are more well-rounded and prepared to cope well with the intellectual demands of University life. The ideal IBDP student is hard working, has a balanced lifestyle and is resilient. The IB Learner Profile describes the characteristics of a successful IB student in any of the PYP, MYP and DP programmes. Here are the attributes: Balanced, Open-Minded, Reflective, Risk-Takers, Caring, Communicators, Knowledgeable, Thinkers, Principled, and Inquirers.

Q：It has been a while since you came to CRS. What are your thoughts about the school? 您来CRS已经有一段时间了，对学校有什么看法呢?
I have been at CRS for two months now and the whole team is working brilliantly together and with great enthusiasm as we prepare to open in September 2020. We have met fantastic students and parents at our information events, and I am really excited to welcome our first classes in a few months. For an International Principal, previous experience of school leadership in a diverse range of cultural contexts is invaluable in helping to be an effective member of the leadership team. Listening is always more important than speaking and discussion leading to collaborative decision making is our approach at CRS. Being able to see the ‘big picture’ at all times is also vitally important.
我已正式加入厦门华锐莱普顿学校两个月，学校将在今年9月顺利开学，我和我的团队都表现出极高的信心与热情。我们在信息发布会上结识了一批出色的学生和家长，我非常期待迎来开学后的第一堂课。作为一名外方校长，多元文化背景下的学校管理经验帮助我们做出正确高效的决策。在CRS，我们重视倾听他人的意见，因此在协作决策中我们充分地讨论，并时刻强化全局概念。
Q：What is the difference between CRS and other schools you have taught at or led?
厦门华锐莱普顿学校与您之前任教过的学校有哪些不同呢？
The partnership of Chiway and Repton makes this a unique school and my first experience of working within a Chinese-British educational enterprise and I am very much enjoying the mutually supportive relationship between Chiway and Repton colleagues. Our Mission: “Chinese Origins, Global Originality, Historical Virtues, Future Competence” is of course also unique to CRS and bringing this to reality in our daily lives is an exciting challenge for our whole community.
