是颁奖礼,也是成长礼 ∣ 海归学校首届“奥卡斯奖学金”颁奖典礼

6月15日,海归学校首届“奥卡斯”奖学金举行了颁奖仪式。海归学校11年级学生萧凯元、张易佳,10年级学生张栩萌,成为首届获奖学生。



园区统战部副部长陈翔、园区教育局政宣处副处长陶宇星、市委统战部侨务事务处处长张辉分别为三位学生颁奖。



三位学生分别用英文发表了获奖致辞。他/她们用亲身体验讲诉自己成功之前的挫败和沮丧、坚持和努力;讲诉自己来到OCAC之后的成长和改变;更表达对获奖的感激、对未来的期许……



张易佳同学致辞(节选):


As a OCAC student, I treat myself as a small tree, rooting in this land, absorbing the Chinese culture here, and growing up with the help of students and teachers, and one day, I’ll reach the sky and see the world. OCAC gives me possibilities of becoming a greater person, and chances to improve my ability in planning, leading, time management, empathy and open-minded.


I’ve been here for two years, and I think I’ve been changing a lot. I can still remember when I was first here, I’m the kind of by-the-book student, but gradually, I started to argue against authority, to think, to challenge because my teachers respect my ideas. I’m more myself in this school, with global perspective, with passion and ambition for greater success. I’m no longer a “good student,” but I’m the learner. I’ll always be grateful to OCAC, for helping me and allowing to me become myself.



萧凯元同学致辞(节选):


……Then, reality punched me in the face. Those subjects that I thought I was good at, chemistry and physics, gave a hit to me. I did poorly in those popular competitions. I saw people of my age were better than me, in all sense: activities, sport, research, GPA, sat, and TOEFL.


It’s very stressful and depressing when you reach the palace of talents and keep wandering around, finding out you can’t even open the door.


I started to lose my confidence. I pretended to be indifferent, but there was a voice in my heart, saying I should not give up. I shouldn’t give away all the honors.


So I concentrated on these subjects in the close season, hoping to make a great coup. And after all, I succeed. All these things that I wasn’t able to achieve last year, coming to me one by one.


Now I had a good sat, a good TOEFL, lots of award of competitions, research on the way. Believe me, I said that not because I want you to feel pressure, but really, those hard time has passed. The dawn has come.



张栩萌同学致辞(节选):


First and foremost, I would like to thank my fellow schoolmates for persistently supporting me along this remarkable learning journey. Since last September, when I first stepped into this new campus as a transfer student, you have never treated me as an outsider. Instead, you have always made me assimilate into this young and vibrant team, offering me the most necessary help in learning and living generously……


Secondly, I want to thank my teachers for choosing me as an awardee of the scholarship. Thank you for working constructively for our vigorous school and unique learning environment……


Last but not least, I am grateful to the administration committee of Suzhou Industrial Park for your financial support towards our school and our returnee scholar community. This award further encourages me to open up my world view and return for my own country's development as a real talent.



孩子的成绩背后,必定有着父母全方位的支持与鼓励。张易佳同学的母亲作为家长代表,在致辞中动情地回忆了与海归学校的不解之缘:



回想2年前,我们在选择国际学校的时候,研究和走访了苏州很多国际学校,对这些学校的教育理念和教学方式,或多或少有这样那样不满意的地方,直到我们遇到了海归学校,它的“根深中华,创新国际”的理念深深地吸引了我们,中西文化兼收并蓄,面向世界开拓创新,这正是我们苦苦寻找的学校,于是义无反顾地报考了,并且也只报考了这一所学校,从此成了海归学校的铁粉。


回顾张易佳在海归学校近2年的学习和生活,我惊喜地发现张易佳长大了,成熟了。原来英语磕磕巴巴的她现在可以用流利的英语和老师同学们交流和讨论问题了;原来对家长的意见只是点头称是的她开始拥有自己的想法,并能调理清晰地表达出来了;原来只关心自己的她开始关注环境问题、教育不公等社会现象了,并致力于尽自己力所能及的力量想办法去解决这些问题。看着张易佳的变化和成长,我们都很庆幸当初选择了海归学校。



从高一开始,热爱科学的萧凯元就在各大国际竞赛中屡获佳绩,在替他开心的同时,妈妈更欣慰的是他这两年来的迅速成长:



我总结这两年他的成长主要在2个方面,一是“自理”,一是“自律”——“自理”指的是“自我理解的能力”,对自己内心的坚持,慢慢懂得自己喜欢什么,如何去争取。同时,他更加自律了,知道如何制定计划,如何努力达到目标。我觉得这是他进入高中阶段最大的变化和提高。


希望他以后坚持所爱,快乐探索。让人生更有意义,对社会更有价值。


张栩萌是本次获奖的唯一一位高一学生,妈妈希望,获奖能给懂事的她更多动力。



她能获奖,我们很替她开心。之前她一直在镇江最好的学校学习,但是英语程度还是不够,也不肯说。这一年来,她的英语明显提高了。而且现在更自信更阳光,很有自己的想法和主见……相比以前在公立学校,现在运动量也增加了,每天到点就去运动,还拍运动视频给我看。


希望这次获奖不要给她带来太大压力,而要以此为动力,慢慢找到自己的兴趣,为之努力。”



如中学部校长Mr. David Brian所说,首次获奖的三名学生对海归学校而言具有特殊的意义,更将为学校确立“传统和标准”,是学校的骄傲和未来学弟学妹们的努力方向。 


海归学校中方校长张剑澜祝贺几位获奖同学,并亲自创作了一首小诗,赠予同学们。

The rings of a tree are made from drops of water:

She is bright, transparent, deep and distant.

She knows no boundaries nor limits.

 








“奥卡斯”奖学金秉承“公平、公正、公开,不拘一格选拔人才”的原则,对所有海归高中学生开放申请,获奖学生必须爱国守法、品学兼优,并满足积极参加校非学术类活动等要求。奖学金评定委员会由学校资方代表、中外方校长、中学校长、学生代表、家委会代表等共同组成。经过学生申请、资格审查、评委会面试等环节,产生最终的获奖者。


海归学校希望,通过类似奖学金的设定,激励更多同学不断积极进取、追求卓越,成为主动进取、全面发展的终身学习者。
