巧用智能设备,丰富学习体验,助力学术发展 Use of Technology in LEHF Prep School

我们邀请预备部的三位英籍主班老师,给大家分享一下预备部学生如何使用智能科技助力学习。

为什么选择iPad?


我们选择iPad的原因是它支持无缝学习,这使得学生们能够轻松切换学习环境,从正式到非正式环境,从个人到社会环境,并且能自主把握学习进度。通过iPad及相关科技,他们有非常多的机会来接触不同的学习资源,丰富学习层次,并发展21世纪所需要的科技技能,这也是日后企业雇主所看重的。此外,iPad的用户界面非常友好,适合低年级学生们操作。



iPad的妙用


学生们能够使用他们的iPad获取学习资源、丰富学习体验和追踪学习进度。通过整合微软365软件,他们能够在学校和在家中方便地回顾学习内容。最重要的一点是,他们的学习材料和笔记等资料以电子格式储存,这能减少纸张的使用,让学习变得更加可持续。此外,在计算机科学课堂,孩子们将会利用iPad来学习编程和机器人等知识技能。



丰富学习体验


跟传统学习方法相比,使用iPad辅助学习能够更加吸引孩子们的注意力,从而提高他们的学习技能,也能给与课堂教授内容更丰富的补充和拓展。借助iPad,从前的单词死记硬背变成了互动式的学习游戏,文章写作时可以加入多媒体内容,并提高学生们的文字处理和网页设计能力。iPad上的辅助功能,例如文字转语音、回放、慢速播放,以及针对阅读障碍儿童的易读字体,可以帮助有学习困难的孩子逐步使用和学习课程。



鼓励协作式学习


许多人都会担心电子设备和技术有可能导致社会中人际关系的疏离。但在佛山霍利斯预备部,我们并不担心。恰恰相反,我们相信它们能够使学生们之间的联系变得更加紧密。在课堂上,我们通过设备鼓励孩子们进行合作,共同完成资料收集和研究等学习活动。通过Pages、Keynote和Office 365等学习套件,孩子们能够在学校和家里实时合作,完成小组项目。这些协作项目和任务能够同时提升孩子们的沟通技巧,让他们提前体验未来职业生涯中的项目合作。



培养健康习惯


在佛山霍利斯,我们鼓励孩子们使用iPad时养成健康的使用习惯,例如保持良好的使用姿势,定期放松和休息双眼(例如20-20-20法则),以及限制使用时间。这也不只是针对iPad使用,无论是阅读,还是写作活动,孩子们都要定时休息,避免长时间近距离用眼。在课堂之外,孩子们有充足时间参与体育课和课外活动,帮助他们休息以及可以锻炼远距离视力,这有助于保持眼睛健康。


20-20-20 护眼法则

使用电子设备时每隔20分钟休息一次,把目光从电脑屏幕移开,看20英尺(约6米)以外的任何物体20秒钟。




正确使用科技


在学习中应用科学技术能给孩子们提供一个崭新的教育视角,激发他们对学习的兴趣。然而,也有家长会担心,在数字时代,资讯随手可得,技术让学习变得“太容易”。我们始终明确对科技的态度:科技是用于提升学习体验,而不是取缔学习过程。我们会教导孩子如何使用科技和网络进行研究、引用他人观点和避免抄袭,确保他们以正确的态度来使用技术,对自己的学习自主负责,并借助科学技术来面对学习上的挑战。



网络安全保护


在预备部孩子们领取iPad之前,他们需要阅读和同意学校的ICT(信息通信技术)规则。我们会让他们学习在使用电子设备时,要了解网络安全、正确使用网络、保持警惕和可持续理念。每年预备部计算机科学课的第一个主题都是关于网络安全,通过一系列的课程活动,让孩子们明白为什么和如何在虚拟网络中保护自己。在PSHE课程中,这方面也会经常被谈及,并通过定期的回顾来增强学生们的安全意识。




科学技术发展日新月异,在教育中应用智能科技有助于帮助学生们准备好迎接未来的高新科技时代。随着AR(增强现实)、AI(人工智能)和VP(语音平台)等新技术的出现和发展,我们一直在寻找和结合不同的技术方法,来调整和提升我们的课程,从计算机科学到STEM学科,以此培养学生们的科技意识,让他们更好适应未来科技的突破性发展。在佛山霍利斯学习,从预备部起,您的孩子将有机会在日常学习中接触高新技术,建立和发展对科技的兴趣和激情,提升科技应用技能,为未来世界做好准备。

At LEH Foshan, we believe technology is a wonderful tool to support learning. It enables students to research and access material quickly and to complete tasks faster than by other means. In Prep School, our young students have been enjoying using iPads to enhance their learning experience. 


In this article, we invite our British classroom teachers to share with you information about the use of technology in Prep School.

Why Chooses iPads?


The reason we choose iPads is that they support seamless learning, allowing learners to easily switch learning contexts – from formal to informal or personal to social – and to take control of their own learning. It gives them endless access to different medias to access their learning and allows them to develop 21st century skills that their future employers will strive for. They also have a user-friendly interface that is perfect for our younger learners.



How to Use iPads?


Students use their iPads to access, enrich, and keep track of their learning; and with the integration of Microsoft 365 are able to access their work both at school and at home. Best of all, keeping their learning stored digitally allows for more organisation and less paper-based learning engagements – allowing children to learn sustainably. Specifically, in computer science, children will learn skills such as programming and robotics, which their iPads will provide a platform for. 



Enrich Learning Experience


iPads enhance skills by engaging children in a more exciting way than some traditional approaches, and compliment content taught in lesson. Learning spelling changes from memorising words into interactive learning experiences such as games. Writing an article changes into a multi-media project where children also improve their word processing or web design skills. Assistive technology also allows children with learning difficulties to access their curriculum with subtle advances, such as text to speech, the ability to rewatch and slow down media, and easy to read fonts that support students with dyslexia. 



Encourage Collaborative Learning


It is a public concern that digital devices and technology might lead to social isolation. In Prep School, we believe, on the contrary, devices and tech have the potential to bring people together. In classroom, we use devices to bring children together. They are the perfect tool to help children collaborate on research tasks, and through office software like Pages, Keynote and the Office 365 suite, children are able to collaborate in real-time on group projects – both in school and at home. These kind of collaborative projects and tasks improve communication skills by giving children a goal to work towards, and give them a chance to experience working together like they will need to in their future careers.



Cultivate Healthy Habits


At LEH Foshan, we encourage healthy habits when using iPads such as good posture, regular eye breaks (such as the 20/20/20 method), and time limits in class. The same is true with any reading or writing, so children are taking regular breaks from any near-eye work. Outside of classroom, we have a full rounded curriculum thanks to our ECA and PE programmes, so children have the opportunity to go outside more, using their far distance vision, which helps maintain eye health.


20-20-20 Method

The 20-20-20 rule is a way to prevent eye strain by taking frequent breaks from screens. In short, it means taking your eyes off the screen every 20 minutes and looking at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds.



Proper Use of Technology


Learning with technology gives children a new perspective to education, and gives them a new attitude to how fun learning can be. However, there is often a concern that in the digital age tech can make learning ‘too’ easy. We combat this by ensuring children are aware of how to use technology to enhance learning, rather than replace it. Through lessons on how to research, cite, and avoid plagiarism, we are able to ensure children continue to develop a healthy relationship with technology that gives them ownership over their learning whilst still challenging them in all learning engagements where it is used.



Online Child Protection


Children in Prep School agree to our ICT policy before they are allowed access to iPads. They understand that when we use technology, we need to be safe, smart, sensitive and sustainable. The first of these is emphasised in everything we do, and during the first topic in Computer Science every year, we focus on delivering a series of engaging lessons to ensure children are aware of how to stay safe online, and why we need to be aware. This is also reinforced in our PSHE lessons, and through regular safe use with technology.




Just as technology itself is constantly evolving, technology in education will continue to prepare our young learners for their future world. With new technologies such as AR (Augmented Reality), AI (Artificial Intelligence), and VP (Voice Platforms), we are constantly on the lookout for ways we can adapt our whole curriculum, including Computer Science and STEM, to support future technological breakthroughs. Your children will have the chance to be a part of this future world, through the skills and passions that they will building using technology here, starting from LEH Foshan Prep School.
