每年11月的第4个星期四是感恩节,这是庆祝全年丰收与互相祝福的日子。你可曾想过感恩节和火鸡的起源、意义和象征?为了与社区成员分享这一知识,PYP小学四年级的学生表演了一场关于感恩节的情景剧,向现场观众展示了他们对于这一主题的深度探究。从扮演火鸡、奶牛、公鸡等动物,到饰演父母、孩子等家庭成员,学生充分地运用戏剧课的技能出演了一场精彩的表演!


Thanksgiving Day, a day set aside every year on the fourth Thursday of November to honor the harvest and other bounties of the previous year, is also celebrated annually at TWIS. Have you ever wondered about the origins, significance, and symbolism of Thanksgiving Day and the turkey? Our PYP4 students shared the result of their inquiries about Thanksgiving day through the form of drama with the whole community at the auditorium. Our students shared the story of Thanksgiving and their developing skills in the performing arts.

Thanksgiving Lunch


顾名思义,这一天也是我们对生命中值得感谢的人或事表达谢意或赞美的日子。在共进感恩节午餐之时,餐桌上的每个人都趁此机会向他人表达自己内心的感受——


“我真的很感谢我的父母给了我生命和让我在TWIS接受教育。”

“我想感谢我的老师,因为他们教会了我很多东西。”

“我想对我的朋友说谢谢,因为我可以和她分享快乐和难过。”

......


The day is also the time to express gratitude or appreciation for the people and things in our lives for which we are thankful. During the Thanksgiving lunch, everyone sitting around the table conveyed their feelings to others.


"I am really grateful to my parents for giving me life and the opportunity to learn at TWIS."

"I want to thank my teachers because they teach me a lot."

"I want to say thank you to my friends with whom I can share happiness and sadness."

每个月,东华文泽学校都会邀请一位对国际文凭大学预科项目(IBDP)和大学生涯有着深刻经历的嘉宾为我们的MYP中学四年级学生至DP大学预科项目学生传授宝贵经验。从IB国际文凭课程项目、大学申请咨询,到关于在国外生活的经验,这一系列讲座能够切身地解决学生的疑问,为学生打造一个更理想的未来做好充足的准备。


Every month a successful DP and college graduate addresses the MYP 4 to DP 1 students at Tungwah Wenzel International School. By sharing their experiences and answering questions on a wide range of topics ranging from the IB Diploma Programme course selection to university entry requirements, and about living in a foreign country, it is helping TWIS students to prepare for their future. 



在这一系列的第二场讲座中,我们“来到”了荷兰的鹿特丹市。出生于意大利,成长于泰国,Ben Bultrini是这场讲座的特邀嘉宾,他曾毕业于泰国的普林国际学校和苏格兰的爱丁堡大学,目前定居于荷兰。Ben从百忙中抽出时间,给我们的学生提供了许多关于国际文凭课程科目的宝贵建议,还提及这些科目与就业市场的紧密关联性。另外,在学习方法论领域,Ben还切实地分享了一系列实用的技巧,例如,他建议学生使用“Loci策略”来提高记忆力,包括使用方位来回顾知识点,仔细查看往年的IBDP考试题,为DP课程的公开考试做好充足的准备。


This second interview session brought us to the city of Rotterdam in the Netherlands where our second guest, Ben Bultrini, currently resides. Ben is Italian and was raised in Thailand. He graduated from the Prem International School in Thailand and the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. Ben took some time off his busy schedule to give valuable advice to our students regarding their Diploma subject selection, emphasizing that we need to make sure of the employability of those subjects. He also offered practical tips to boost memory by using the strategy of Loci which consists of using places to recall information, as well as reviewing past IB exam papers to be well prepared for the DP external examinations. 



当一位MYP中学五年级学生问到新冠肺炎疫情如何影响个人的学习进程时,Ben的回答发人深省。Ben说,2020年所出现的封城与在线学习成为了一项催化剂,让他重新思忖人生的优先事项,因此在职业方向上,他从政治研究转向了音乐。为了追求他对音乐的热爱,他最终选择了在鹿特丹市开办一家音乐制作和音响工程公司,这让他拥有足够的资金来支持他完成音乐硕士学位和生活开支。以自身的故事作为开端,Ben鼓励TWIS学生不要畏惧改变,要勇于追求热爱,即便出现在我们面前的是种种令人生畏的困难。


A thought-provoking comment happened when an MYP5 student asked about the impact of the pandemic on his studies. Ben shared that the lockdown as well as the online learning which took place in 2020 was a catalyst to make him rethink his priorities, resulting in a career path veering from political studies to music. Pursuing his love of music, he eventually started a music production and sound engineering business in Rotterdam which now allows him to earn a living while financing his master’s degree in music. Ben encouraged TWIS students to pursue their passions and not to be afraid of change even if it can be daunting. 



在讲座的最后,作为音乐人的Ben和学生一起观看了他的乐队表演视频。随后,Ben将继续在他的船屋——欧洲年轻一代的新兴生活场所——为开启新的一天做好准备。在与学生在进行愉快的交谈后,Ben承诺会继续与TWIS的学生保持联系,特别是选择了音乐课程的学生。我们期待Ben的再次回归!


Ben shared a short video of his group’s performance. Then it’s time to leave Ben in his houseboat - a trendy place to live for young people in Europe - to get ready for the day. Ben promised to “come back” and speak to our MYP 4 - DP1 students who are specializing in music to discuss some of his latest projects. We are definitely holding Ben to his promise! 



新学年开始时,MYP中学三年级学生在设计课上面临了一项新的挑战——如何更好地改善备受欢迎的学校农场。在上一学年学习了设计、研究、素描和木工等技能后,学生希望将这些现有的理论知识与实际生活相结合,并以此开启新学年设计课的第一单元。在分配好各项任务后,学生共同明确了设计步骤——“探究、研究、制作和生成”。


The new academic year started for MYP3 design students being challenged to create something beneficial to one of the most visited places at school: the farm. They already had designing, researching, sketching and woodworking skills from the previous year and they wanted to reinforce their existing knowledge and abilities in the Design subject's first unit. The task was set, and the direction was clear - "Inquire, research, process, and generate." 



在落实行动之前,学生清楚地知道只有了解农场的情况才能找到更高效的解决方案。TWIS校园拥有两个农场,一个是动物生活的地方,另一个则是用以实践“服务即行动”项目的社区花园。学生深入参观了学校农场,了解两个地方的不足之处。由于每片区域都需要一个创新解决方案,学生决定以木工的角色进行小组合作,在有限的时间内完成项目计划——两个饲养箱、两座楼梯和一个工具柜。  


Students knew they needed to learn more about the farms to come up with beneficial solutions and they chose to visit the property and learn more about the insufficiency of the farm. The school has two farm properties, first where animals live and second where the "Service as Action" community grows plants. Each land needed an innovative solution therefore students decided to split into groups and put on their carpentry skills to complete assigned projects in the limited time. The projects for construction: two pieces of chicken feeder, two sets of stairs, and a tool closet.

尽管每位学生都了解工作坊的安全准则,但设计教师和助教在每次上课前和上课期间都会一再提醒学生遵守安全指南,以避免任何意外的发生。学生在设计工作坊里沉浸式地呆了2周的时间,使用各类工具如钻床、锯床、刷子、砂纸等,用双手一步步地实现自己的想法,并最终设计出富有创造性的成品。更让人高兴的是,学校后勤团队大大地赞赏了学生的设计作品,而学生们也为自己的创作感到自豪,因为他们的努力将使整个社区受益。


Although TWIS students are now familiar with working area safety rules, the design teacher and assistant reminded them of safety guidelines before and during every class to avoid any unwanted injuries. Students spent two weeks in the woodworking area where they used workshop tools such as drill machines, saw machines, brushes, and sandpapers to turn their ideas into a tangible product design. Afterwards, our young carpenters went back to both farms to install their products. Our own logistic team appreciated the work of the students who, in turn, are proud of their creations that will benefit the community.
