Harrow Zhuhai's English class was transformed into a business roadshow, with G8 students taking their business themes from the English book they studied in English class this term – the world’s first science fiction novel, Frankenstein, by British Author Mary Shelley.
Their task was to design a sanatorium for monsters, which could be Frankenstein’s monster, vampires, mummies and so on. The students were able to sell the project to "investors" by giving presentations and showing posters in English throughout.
The students went to great lengths to create 3D models of skeletons, vampires and Frankenstein’s Monster Jr. for example.
One that caught the eye of investors was Ryan and Heath's tailor-made Waee House for Phoenix. They planned to raise a fund of 1 million RMB, of which 220,000 will go towards supplies and furniture and 788,000 will be spent on land costs and engineering. Investors will receive a 10% stake in the company and 8% of the income.
They quote an ancient book that says, "The phoenix only lives on the cliffs, eats bamboo and drinks from the spring." It is considered auspicious, but very rare. It is on the edge of the cliff that the house is built, with two floors, the first made of solid quebracho and the second of heat-resistant and high-strength tungsten metal. They drew up a detailed design.
How did they get the investors' attention? Ryan and Heath thoughtfully stated the unique selling point that this was the world's first phoenix reserve, as well as being cheap and profitable to build, and that the project was also backed by the government.
So how exactly will this project be profitable? They creatively added up the sales of the feathers of phoenix to their profit model in addition to the sanctuary idea. A single feather could sell for 100,000 RMB! The investors were so impressed by their thoughtful and innovative thinking that they ended up with an over-investment of $1.12 million.
