世界地球日是一个全球性的节日，旨在向大众推广环境保护的意识，并鼓励人们爱护环境。在这一天，世界各地的人们会利用各式各样的途径来宣传和实践环境保护的理念。东华文泽学校（TWIS）也很荣幸成为其中一员——我们举办世界地球日庆祝大会科普环保知识，组织环境友好型活动实践理念。在这篇文章中，我们的学生还将带你参观TWIS农场，分享为什么对我们来说“每一天都是地球日”。

Earth Day is a global event that aims to celebrate the environment and inspire people to protect it. On this day, people from different regions use various activities to promote and practice the concept of environmental protection. Tungwah Wenzel International School (TWIS) is one of the proud participants in Earth Day celebrations since we actively commemorate this important day with a range of environmentally-friendly activities and an inspirational assembly. In this article, our students will also take you on a journey to the TWIS Farm and share why "Every Day is Earth Day" at TWIS.

在世界地球日，全校师生欢聚于学校礼堂，共同学习和了解环境保护的重要知识。作为地球日庆祝大会的主持人，来自MYP中学一年级的学生Benjamin和中学四年级的学生Ashley为观众介绍道，地球日是一个全球性的环境保护活动日，起源于1970年代美国校园内的环保运动。自20世纪90年代，它便成为了全世界环保人士的节日和环保意识日。

On Earth Day, students from different grade levels come together for an assembly to learn about and celebrate the importance of protecting our planet. Benjamin from MYP1 and Ashley from MYP4 explained that Earth Day is a worldwide environmental protection activity that started as an environmental movement on American campuses in the 1970s. In the 1990s, it became a festival and environmental protection awareness day for environmentalists all over the world.

在中国语言与文学课程上，MYP中学三年级学生探究了自然与人类关系的主题，讨论了保护自然的重要性与紧迫性。在大会上，她们就这一问题进行了公开演讲，分享她们对这个主题的看法。而MYP中学一年级的学生则介绍了她们对我们所身处的“蓝色星球”的科学研究。

In Chinese language & literature class, MYP3 students explored the importance and urgency of protecting nature with the theme of nature and humans. Based on the topic, they conducted public speaking to share their views and opinions. MYP1 students also gave an introduction to their investigation on our blue planet, the Earth.

PYP小学二年级的学生讲述了由作者Lisa Bullard所撰写的故事书《每一天都是地球日》。紧接着，我们的教师Mr. Rafael向观众介绍了一种有趣且负责任的旅行方式——生态旅游，即在我们享受这个美丽星球的同时，也学会关照后代的未来。

PYP2 students shared the story, "Earth Day Everyday" by Lisa Bullard. The story was followed by Mr Rafael, who introduced ecotourism, a fun and responsible way to travel and enjoy our beautiful planet, while also keeping it safe for future generations.

另外在大会上，PYP小学三年级的学生歌唱了一首关于植树的加拿大经典歌曲，提醒人们爱护树林的重要性。因为树木释放出我们所需的氧气，减少雨水径流量，并为许多鸟类和哺乳动物提供家园。 让我们继续努力，为保护环境和促进可持续发展作出贡献！

During the assembly, students were also reminded about the importance of trees as PYP3 students sang a Canadian classic song on tree planting. Trees give off oxygen that we need to breathe, reduce the amount of stormwater runoff, and provide homes for many birds and mammals. Let us continue to do our part in protecting the environment and promoting sustainable development!

为庆祝世界地球日，我们还精心为PYP小学部和MYP中学部的学生准备了三项活动——在学校农场进行植树活动以装饰栅栏；利用回收废纸制作图案或新的纸张；手绘废弃的瓶子，用作花瓶或装饰艺术品。这些活动能够帮助学生发挥创造力，亲身实践环保的理念。

As part of the Earth Day celebration, three activities were organized for PYP and MYP buddies. They participated in Green Wall planting at the farm to decorate the fences, made papers using collected used papers, and painted empty glass bottles to use as vases or decorative art pieces. These activities were beneficial for students to put the idea of environmental conservation into practice creatively.

在TWIS，环境保护是一项日常承诺，而不仅仅是在地球日。例如在国际文凭小学项目（IB PYP）中，“共享地球”是作为六大探究性单元之一而存在的，其环境保护的理念深嵌于课程之中。

At TWIS, environmental protection is a daily commitment, not just on Earth Day. For example, in alignment with the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP), the concept of protecting the environment is integrated into the curriculum through the inclusion of "Sharing the Planet" as one of its six inquiry units.

基于课程，TWIS农场则不是普通的农场，它更像是一间蕴含各项大自然元素的教室。例如，PYP小学一年级的学生通过校内农场，了解到不同类型的动物及其栖息地，并学会保护动物以此拉开探究“共享地球”单元的序幕；而小学二年级的学生则深入动物农场的迷人世界，探索城市和乡村环境的差异。

In this way, the TWIS farm isn't just any ordinary farm - it's a classroom come alive! Our students in PYP 1 kicked off their inquiry into "Sharing the Planet" by venturing out to the farm to learn about different types of animals, their habitats, and how we can conserve them. PYP 2 students delved into the fascinating world of farm animals, as well as those kept as pets in the city, to explore the differences between urban and rural environments.

小学三年级的“共享地球”单元侧重于生态系统及其相互依存关系的研究，学生有机会在学校农场亲眼目睹动物之间的相互依存关系和食物链；在小学四年级，学生在学校农场研究动物权利，以及研究如何改善动物的生活环境；小学五年级的学生则要学习如何处理社区问题，包括动物的福祉以其周边的环境。

PYP 3's "Sharing the Planet" unit focused on ecosystems and their interdependence, with students witnessing firsthand how animals rely on each other and the food chain. In PYP 4, students examined animal rights and how they can make life better for the animals on the farm. And in PYP 5, students are tackling community issues, including animal welfare, as they explore local concerns. 

TWIS农场不仅为课程所用，它还是学生学会与动物相处的平台。在这里，他们学会如何喂养、接触和照顾动物，同时培养其同理心、责任感和自我保护等技能。学生在此不仅对大自然有了更深的了解，还提高了解决问题的能力，其观察力和审美能力亦得到磨练。TWIS农场趣味十足，欢迎来参观我们的农场，和我们一起尽享学习的乐趣！
