在这个盛夏中,我们见证了清澜校园里的美丽风景,也目睹了AEPC课程带给孩子们的收获与成长。中学AEPC暑期课程即将落下帷幕,让我们一起回顾一下这个充满趣味与学习氛围的英文公共演讲与学术写作营的精彩之旅吧!




公共演讲营




在当今竞争激烈的社会中,良好的公共演讲能力是一个关键的技能。AEPC公共演讲营旨在帮助学生提升他们的口头表达能力、培养自信。学生通过一期的课程学习如何成为一位出色的演讲家。学习了基本的演讲技巧,包括声音调节、肢体语言、舞台表现等方面的训练,并进行实践和反馈。除了演讲技巧,我们还注重培养学生的思维逻辑和组织能力。学生们将学习如何构建清晰的演讲结构,有效地传达观点,并用有力的论据和例子支持自己的观点。此外,通过学习诗歌《海象与木匠》,学生更加灵活地将肢体动作融入到文本当中。并且,学生们在这期课程结束后参加了ESB2023国际英语表达能力认证测评,期待孩子们顺利通过!




本期的公共演讲课可谓是一个充满了文化魅力与启迪的学习时光。在这次课堂中,孩子们担任起文化大使的角色,他们充满热情地投入到对所选文物的研究、描述和推广之中。这不仅让他们获得了知识的积累,更让他们深刻感受到中华文化的浓厚历史在这些珍贵文物中的生动体现。在课堂中,孩子们不仅仅是为了呈现一份完美的演讲内容而努力,更是从演讲的制作中汲取了许多宝贵的经验。他们认识到作为一个出色的讲者,不仅需要言辞的精湛表达,还需要懂得如何以非语言的方式传达信息。他们学习了运用"The give"手势,懂得了何时演讲需要搭配身体动作。



此外,来自美国的助教Trey也在课堂中给予孩子们独特的教学体验。Trey老师以生动精彩的情景对话课程为媒介,将美国的日常文化融入其中。不仅提升了孩子们口语表达的能力,更让他们在轻松愉快的氛围中了解并体验了美国文化的丰富多样。

公共演讲课程中,孩子们学习了辩论、产品促销、演讲开场和结束语、演讲中的过渡和衔接语言以及热点话题的presentation等等内容并取得了明显的进步。首先,通过学习辩论技巧,他们学习了如何准确表达自己的观点,并用事实和逻辑来支持自己的论点。他们还学会了如何构建有效的辩论结构,并运用反驳和辩证的思维方式。其次,孩子们在学习演讲开场和结束语时,掌握了有效吸引观众注意力的方法。他们学会了运用幽默、故事、引用或提问等手段,从而增加演讲的吸引力和说服力。



此外,通过介绍最佳的适应环境的动物和不同的特点,他们研究和表达能力也得到了提升。他们还学会了如何调查和搜集信息,如何组织和呈现这些信息,并与同学进行讨论和分享。最后,通过小组活动的产品促销,孩子们体验了如何销售产品,并培养了团队合作和领导能力,学会了如何与他人合作,共同解决问题,并从不同的观点中获得灵感和想法。通过这些学习,他们能够更加自信地表达自己,并具备了更好地进行演讲和呈现的能力。

The speaking course has concluded after four exciting and interesting weeks.  Students have clearly grown in ability and confidence it was a pleasure working with them. After starting with some foundational understanding of poetic devices, we looked towards what makes poetry poetry. We also focused heavily on three key elements of delivering spoken text in public-namely: Space, Pace, and Weight.

Beyond this, we worked on enunciation and volume and then looked to how to integrate action into the delivery of the text. The students did a great job in this regard!

学术写作营





在这个信息化时代,良好的学术写作能力对于学生的发展至关重要。AEPC学术写作营旨在帮助学生提升他们的英文写作技巧,培养扎实的学术基础。学生通过富有趣味性和互动性的课程,学习如何撰写高质量的学术作文。我们从基本的写作结构、语法规范到逻辑思维和论证方法等方面进行系统讲解和实践演练。



在这期的词汇和语法课堂上,同学们再次点亮了语言技能树。同时,来自美国的两位志愿者助教老师,Valentina和Trey,以英文母语者的独特视角,带给同学们一场别开生面的词汇课。这不仅为同学们开拓了视野,更激发了他们对英语学习的热情。



我们紧密结合孩子们写作中的薄弱点,有针对性地进行了讲解和练习,尤其对标点的正确使用、连词与副词区分等写作中常见问题进行了详细讲解。孩子们通过一个个生动有趣的例子,深入理解了这些知识点,并争取在每次实践中运用,长效规范写作意识。


此外,多样化的句法结构在正式学术写作中也是考量的重要元素之一。为了让孩子们习惯于使用多样化的表达方式,我们特别安排了句式互换练习,锻炼了定语从句和分词作为修饰语的灵活切换。这样的练习使孩子们能够在写作中展现更加简洁、紧凑的修饰表达,让句子更加优美流畅。

孩子们学习了不同类型的写作文章和写作方法,包括议论文、记叙文以及过程类写作等等。在每类写作中,老师们设计了各种活动来调动孩子们的学习积极性和主动性。孩子们也乐在其中。通过参与这些活动,他们将所学的写作方法运用到实践中,拓展了写作思路,并学习了相关的词汇表达和句式!通过辩论、模拟新闻发布会和宣传推广产品等活动,孩子们锻炼了团队合作能力和口语表达能力,并培养了批判性思维,对议论文写作和描述类作文也有更深刻的理解。通过参观学校食堂以及咖啡厅,了解如何制作酸菜鱼和焦糖玛奇朵,孩子们更加直观地感受了过程类写作文章的写作方法。最后一个重要环节是写作的修改,老师们逐个批改孩子们的作文,并当堂给出反馈和建议。孩子们也认真根据教师的建议修改了作文的内容、语言和逻辑。

This week has seen students of the writing class push their boundaries further than before. Students looked at developing writing skills using senses and emotions, and worked these into descriptive writing pieces. They learned how to integrate more descriptive works into their writing, instead of simple progression along a narrative. They revised the PEEL writing system that would allow them to make better use of transition words and phrases between ideas. This was supplemented worked on with words and phrases of sequence, which the students used to note their detailed recipes. After this, students, students took a more creative approach designing their own Super Heroes. This then formed the basis of various writing projects that related argumentative and creative writing elements into their own creativity!

结营仪式学生代表发言




Hello everyone, my name is Ian, from the public speaking class. I’m here today to share some of my thoughts and feelings about my 4 weeks at AEPC.

 

Back in June, I had no idea what AEPC courses might be like, and I was horrified when my mother signed me up for it. Anxiety was getting to me, and I was worrying that the classes are going to be really different from regular school, maybe containing subjects that I’ve never heard of. Plus, I was not exactly good at public speaking, and was a bit timid. Anyway, I generally felt pretty nervous before AEPC started.

 

But my mind set had changed a lot, after the courses had actually begun. Before, I was afraid that I might struggle to perform well, as it turned out, I didn’t have any trouble, so my anxiety dissolved quickly. In fact, I enjoyed the process of presenting my work and helping out my peers during class. We did presentations and poetry performing every single day, and I think the fun comes mostly from the researching and the planning stage of these classes. For presentation classes, we usually spend hours on PPT creating and practicing saying the sentences out loud, normally, we would correct others while reciting our sentences, and that makes learning new vocab so much easier for everyone. It’s like you’ve got the support of the entire class. When it comes to the real presentation though, some of us had a bit of trouble pronouncing words, but after multiple attempts, we still made a remarkable progress.

 

For poetry, we read through poems like “The Walrus and The Carpenter” many many times, and took turns acting out hilarious scenarios in the poem. In the end, we needed to recite the poem AND act it out to camera. All of us got kinda bothered by it, but as time goes on, we got more familiar with the words, and our performance gradually leveled up. And the competition doesn’t seem so bad anymore. What I enjoy most about poetry recital was adding tone and emotions to my reading with methods that I learned in class like space pace and weight.

 

Out of all the things that I learned from 4 weeks of AEPC, I think the most important one is the confidence that I gained. I used to be pretty introverted, and avoided conversation as much as possible. Now after the training done by presenting again and again, I can sense that the introversion in me is had gotten much lesser. I don’t panic everytime I have to speak out, because I’m certain that I have improved, thanks to the hard work of all my teachers. I’m sure that this confidence, will take me much further into a better future. This is the end of my speech, thank you for listening!
