Grade 1

Grade 1

This week, the Grade 1 students delved into the world of 1D, 2D, and 3D dimensions, learning the differences and characteristics of each one. During the UOI classes, students began to explore what 'signs' are and why they are essential in modern life.

Grade 2

Grade 2

This week, the Grade 2 class started a new unit on ancient civilisations. To introduce the topic, the students discussed what ancient civilisations are as well as their significance. The students used iPads and books from the library to conduct research on different ancient civilisations. They gathered information and prepared presentations to share with the rest of the class. In Maths, we focussed on the concept of time. Specifically, we explored how to tell the time by using 'past' and 'to.'

Grade 3

Grade 3

In Grade 3 this week, the students have been undertaking their biannual assessments across their homeroom subjects for this academic year. In addition, the students have also begun their second Unit Of Inquiry, exploring how ancient civilisations connect to the present and influence the future. Their learning journey started with investigating Roman numerals and identifying and applying articles.

Grade 5

In Grade 5 this week, students began their second Unit of Inquiry. They explored how the lifestyle of humans has changed over time. In Literacy, students have been exploring different types of poems and poetry reading.

Grade 6

This week in Grade 6, the students began their new Unit of Inquiry titled 'Where We Are in Place and Time,’ which will be the central focus of their studies in the weeks ahead. The students were initially introduced to the captivating subject of ‘Evolution and Inheritance.’ They will delve into the realms of genetics and the evolution of various species, as well as the influence of human activity on the adaptations of certain species.


Within their Literacy curriculum, the students’ primary emphasis has been on the correct utilisation of hyphens. Students have acquired an understanding of their proper usage to elevate their writing proficiency. Furthermore, they were introduced to a set of twenty new vocabulary words that they were exposed to throughout the week, thus enriching their language competencies. In Mathematics, their emphasis has been on establishing a robust groundwork in long multiplication, addition, and subtraction. Students have become acquainted with the principles and terminology associated with these mathematical operations. The class eagerly anticipates the ensuing weeks and the educational prospects that this unit offers.

Art

Art

With the excitement of a new unit, new projects and artworks have also been set into motion. 


Kindergarten 3 and Grade 1 students began exploring story-making and how to bring to life their main characters with decorative pillows and tote-bag designs. 


Grade 2 and 3 students travelled back in time, visiting Paris and observing the amazing world of ancient tapestry. Students came back inspired and new tapestry works are now on the way. 


Travelling to the past was also an exciting journey for Grades 4, 5 and 6! After a lucky draw, students headed to a specific timeline and were able to witness amazing artwork. Then, the students decided which artwork they would recreate.

随着新单元的到来,学生们也开始着手新的项目和艺术品。


K3和一年级的学生们开始探索如何用装饰性的枕头和手提袋设计来创作故事,以及如何让他们的主角栩栩如生。


二年级和三年级的学生穿越时空,参观了巴黎,观察了古代挂毯的奇妙世界。学生们受到启发并开始制作自己的挂毯作品。


对于四年级、五年级和六年级的学生来说,回到过去也是一场激动人心的旅行!他们用随机抽的方式决定前往哪个时间线,并欣赏那个时代令人惊叹的艺术品。接着,学生们决定重新创作哪些艺术品。

Music

Music

This week, it was showtime for the Grade 1 class! The students were excited to share their favourite pieces of music, so they sang, played instruments, and danced enthusiastically.


Grade 2 and 3 students learned about traditional African music. They discovered some of the dances, vocals, and instruments typical of Africa. They not only learnt the function of African music but also grasped the historical impact that it had on history.


Grade 4 and 5 students learnt something about the history of Classical music. They explored its timeline, from the Baroque to the Romantic era. This week, they also explored more in-depth the figures of Bach and Handel, notable Baroque musicians.


Grade 6 students began learning about the ensemble piece called 'For Elisa.' This week, they worked very hard on the first part of the piece, even though they will need continuous practice to fully master it.

这周是一年级班级的表演时间!学生们兴奋地分享他们最喜欢的音乐作品,他们唱歌,演奏乐器,热情地跳舞。

ICT

This week in ICT, all grade levels were introduced to the new unit and learned new exciting things. 


Grade 1 started learning about common types of tech symbols by understanding their nature and how they work. Grade 2 was introduced to ancient technologies and learned how different it is from today. 


Grade 3 learned about programming languages and how important it is for machines and devices to input and process the commands that we are giving. 


Grade 4 began their journey on how to use “Apple Keynote” to create stunning presentations and creative projects with powerful tools and effects where they can unleash their creativity in exciting ways.

This week, Grade 1 students learned about the compound finals 'ai, ei, and ui,' as well as their four tones. They also tackled the rules necessary to mark compound finals, whilst familiarising themselves with the Chinese words 'sister, and grandma.' 


Grade 2 students learned the text 'Lingling's Painting' and explored the meaning of persimmon in Chinese culture. 


Grade 3 students addressed new vocabulary and dictation words taken from the story 'The Old House That Will Never Fall Down.' Additionally, students learned how to analyse texts based on clues in the title, illustrations, and story content. In Writing, students used their imagination to continue developing their stories. 


Grade 4 students learned the text 'The Feet of the Creeper.' 


Grade 5 and Grade 6 students reviewed what they had learned for the exam. In addition, Grade 6 students learned about the Forbidden City.

普通话作为第一语言


本周, 一年级学生学习复韵母ai/ei/ui和他们的四声,读准音,认清形。学生还了解了复韵母的标调规则并学习“妹妹、奶奶”2个词语。


二年级的学生们学习了课文《玲玲的画》,了解了柿子在中国文化里的寓意。


三年级学生学习了课文《总也倒不了的老屋》中的生字,掌握听写词语。学生学习根据题目、插图和故事内容里的一些线索进行预测。写作上,学生发挥想象,续写故事。


四年级的学生学习了课文《爬山虎的脚》。


五年级和六年级进行了考前复习,另外,六年级的学生们学习了有关故宫的知识。

Additional Language


This week, Grade 5 students familiarised themselves with the documents necessary to apply for a visa. They also practised situational conversations. 


Grade 4 and Grade 3 students learned how to talk about their studies, life, and other topics related to their academic and personal background. 


Grade 2 students continued to explore natural phenomena, with a particular focus on “snow” and how it comes into existence, as well as its colour and taste.


Kindergarten 3 students learned part of the initial consonants 'g, k, and h,' focussing on their pronunciation and how to write them correctly. Additionally, the students also learned about one of the Chinese traditional festivals called 'Chung Yeung Festival.'

普通话作为第二语言


本周五年级的学生学习了办理签证需要准备的物品有哪些,他们还进行了情景对话练习。四年级和三年级的学生学习介绍自己学业、生活及其他方面的情况。二年级的学生继续围绕自然的主题学习雪的产生,颜色和味道。K3学生学习了声母“g k h”的部分内容,学习其发音和在四线三格上的正确书写方式。和中国传统节日之一——重阳节,通过讲故事和观看视频的方式,让学生了解到重阳节的由来和习俗。

Chinese Maths

Chinese Maths

This week, Grade 1 students learnt about the numbers 6 and 7. In particular, they explored the division, addition, and subtraction of the aforementioned numbers. Students can now correctly count quantities up to 7, compare sizes, and do simple calculations.


Grade 2 students focussed on solving practical problems with two questions. Then, they explored the concept of ‘angles,’ learning how to draw them and how to do exercises based on the said angles.


Grade 3 students learnt about the new mass unit ‘ton’ this week, and tried to solve practical problems related to it. Afterwards, they were introduced to the use of charts to solve problems.


Grade 4 students first classified ‘angles’ and used a protractor to draw them. Then, they began their unit on calculation and started learning about the written multiplication of three-digit and two-digit numbers.


Grade 5 students have been looking at calculating division using decimals. It is important for students to understand how we use the decimal point when calculating with decimals.


In Grade 6, students were introduced to the division of fractions. Students focused on converting fractions in the simplest form using multiple mathematical operations.

中文数学


本周一年级的学生学习了6和7的认识,6和7的分与合以及6和7的加减法。学生们能够正确数出7以内的数量,会比大小,会计算。


本周二年级先巩固掌握解决连续两问的实际问题,并进行了相关练习,进入“角”的认识及画法的学习。


三年级本周认识新的质量单位“吨”,并尝试解决与“吨”有关的实际问题,介绍运用列表的方法解决问题。


四年级先进行“角”的分类,并利用量角器画角。然后进入计算的单元,开始学习三位数与两位数的笔算乘法。


五年级本周探究较复杂的小数除法,首先是除数是整数,除到被除数的末尾仍有余数,需要添“0”继续除的除法。然后是被除数比除数小,整数部分不够商“1”的特殊情况,最后探究一个数除以小数。


六年级本周在能用方向和距离描绘路线图的基础上结束第二单元,然后进入分数除法的学习,先认识倒数,再探究了分数除以整数。

A ‘Spooktacular’ week in the library! To celebrate this spooky week, the Kindergarten 3 and Grade 1 Library Club students read a famous story about a scary witch called ‘Room on the Broom.’ Students learnt about what a ‘book character’ is and noted the various characters in the story. The Upper Primary Library Club students listened to a nonfiction audiobook about Halloween and then needed to answer questions about the celebration. In this activity, students practised their listening and comprehension skills.

学生们在图书馆度过了“令人毛骨悚然”的一周!为了庆祝恐怖的一周,K3和一年级图书馆俱乐部的学生们读了一个著名的关于一个可怕的女巫的故事,叫做“扫帚上的房间”。学生们学习了什么是“书中的角色”,并了解到故事中的各种角色。小学高年级图书馆俱乐部的学生们听了一本关于万圣节的非小说类有声读物,并回答有关庆祝活动的问题。在此任务中,同学们锻炼了听力和理解能力。

P.E.

This week, Kindergarten 3 practised throwing a javelin. In this lesson, they learned how running before releasing the javelin will help create a longer throw. Additionally, in the lesson, the students looked at the three key phases of the javelin throw, the set-up, the release, and the follow-through. 


Primary School has started their Sports Day unit. Therefore, students from Grades 1 to 3 have been learning how to hurdle, with the main focus on the trail leg clearing the hurdle. Grades 4 to 6 have learned the correct technique for starting a sprint race and learned the instructions given by the starter.
