Mr. Ferdi Victor

Mr. Giuseppe Miolli

Mr. Jordan Cochrane

Lindsey Holmes

" What are we supposed

to do in Art class if we're not drawing?"

"Is Drama class just about learning

how to perform?"

"Why do we have to learn about

famous math problems in Maths class?"

"What kind of experiments will

we be doing in Science class?"

With the success of a series of open events,

many parents and students were also impressed

by Harrow's heritage, curriculum system and facilities…

And the thing that interests

 everyone the most is undoubtedly

what is the real experience like at Harrow Hengqin?

Welcome to sign up for an appointment.

Theater, more than performance

Mr. Ferdi Victor

Head of Creative Arts

Mr. Victor subsequently worked for the Cape Performing Arts, The Breughel Theatre Group, The Story Spinning Theatre and Gadabout Productions.

He has directed musicals and plays including The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Grease etc. Amongst other roles he has played Macbeth, Romeo, the brother Andre in Chekov’s The Three Sisters and Dr. Jeff in the Illegitimate Grandmother. He has 30 years of teaching experience in Performing Arts, English and Mathematics. He designed and developed a new curriculum for foreign language learning through drama. Also, he is an accredited Cambridge Examiner. His students obtained C to A* for the past ten years.

This will be a very interesting experience. Mr. Victor will play two games related to Drama. In the "Chair Game", everyone goes into a silent mode and communicates only through body language; in the "Ball Game", each person who receives the ball repeats what the previous person has said. What appeared to be games actually exposed students to the skills practiced in the Drama class.

Drama is never just about performing; it's a discipline about nonverbal communication, teamwork, focusing and quick response skills. Few people purposefully work on these skills these days, but I hope that my class will allow children to focus on and improve these important skills.

Maths, more than solving problems

Mr. Giuseppe Miolli

Teacher of Maths

Mr. Giuseppe has been dedicated to the field of education for over a decade, with a passion for inspiring young minds and helping them reach their full potential. His experience spans various educational settings, from traditional classrooms to online platforms, and he has had the privilege of working with students of different nationalities, diverse backgrounds and age groups. Some highlights from his past experience include students being first and second in national maths competitions. Additionally, he has been fortunate to contribute to the preparation of students for the ASDAN Shanghai business competition as well as several international math competitions.

His Maths classes are dedicated to developing students' problem-solving skills, guiding them step-by-step through the process of exploring the optimal solution to a real-world problem. He believes that more than learning formulas and problem-solving techniques, being able to relate to reality and apply the techniques to real-world scenarios is more important. On the Experience Day, Ms. Miolli will start from a real-world problem and lead students step by step to analyze the problem and then solve it.

Maths is a wonderful subject. At the moment you finally solve the solution after painstakingly work through a puzzle, the enlightened joy is like lighting up the world. And I enjoy leading my students to crack problem after problem and to explore the unique joy.

Science, more than doing experiments

Mr. Jordan Cochrane

Head of Science

Mr. Cochrane has a wealth of expertise in the subject of science and is passionate about sharing his thirst for knowledge with his students through practical and inspiring lessons. He firmly believes that science opens many doors to understanding. His teaching philosophy is student-centred, with a focus on local contexts, creative lessons and more. As the Head of Science, he hopes to provide students with a colourful and engaging curriculum that challenges them to think outside the box.

Mr. Cochrane, who is known as the "Experiment Person" of Science Class at Harrow Hengqin, loves to let students learn and consolidate their knowledge through interesting experiments. In this trial class, he will also lead students to do experiments, including a small hydrogen explosion experiment, etc. This is one of the required gas experiments for IGCSE Chemistry major and is one of the most popular introductory experiments for chemistry classes worldwide.

*All experiments need to be conducted under the

direction of the teacher and follow safe practices.

Science is a hands-on subject. Through experiments, students can understand how scientific knowledge is constructed, engage with science meaningfully, learn how to ask questions, systematically test ideas, and report on the process of justifying ideas like a real scientist.

Art, more than painting

Lindsey Holmes

Teacher of Art

Ms. Holmes is passionate about teaching art and has 30 years' experience in secondary education in the UK and China, teaching mainly art at IGCSE, A level and a range of technical qualifications in art and design. She has a long and successful track record of teaching Cambridge Qualifications, training and mentoring teachers, artist groups and government initiatives. For a time she worked at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool, working with the education team. She also has two grown-up sons who have Masters degrees from Cambridge and Canterbury Universities. She has full experience of communicating with students.

Ms. Holmes' class is full of surprises. She believes that drawing on a piece of paper is not enough to develop students' creative thinking. In the trial class, she wants to lead students to observe and use different materials, mediums and carriers to construct a piece of artwork with three-dimensional spatial thinking, and to show as many ways as possible in one lesson of layering, shading, combining, symmetry and other methods commonly used in art creation.

Creating art is not about completing a painting, but developing ways of exploring the world and solving problems. And solving problems creatively is one of the leadership attributes Harrow promotes.

Looking forward to meeting these teachers and

experiencing our authentic Harrow class?
