On the 2nd of December, the annual community celebration - "ISA Festival" - at ISA Wuhan school came to an end. As an annual community event, "ISA Festival" continued the ISA schools tradition of focusing on charity and passing on love, and all proceeds from the event were donated to the ISA Wuhan Charity Fund. Members of the community continue to dedicate their self-worth and find a sense of belonging to the community through holistic education, community building and public service, and use practical actions to pass on their love.

ISA Wuhan Charity Fund was initiated and legally established in November 2022 in Wuhan Charity Federation, adhering to the charitable purposes of "caring for the elderly, helping the young, assisting students, and helping the needy". It has carried out a series of public welfare activities in the four directions of charitable donations, music, environmental protection, education, and has implanted a sense of responsibility and a sense of mission of public welfare and social services into the hearts of the students through these activities. This has helped them to establish the values of love, which is widely acclaimed by all walks of life.

The multinational charity bazaar at ISA Festival was a lively event with thousands of visitors. Nearly one hundred stalls of different colours were lined up, offering a diverse range of food, culture, sports, music, handicrafts, and other experience programmes, with most of the products donated by ISA students and parents, or organised and made by themselves.

Among them, a stall with the aroma of soil and fruits and vegetables was particularly eye-catching. The students played the role of little "vegetable farmers" and introduced the charity activity of donating cotton clothes to the Wuhan School for the Blind to all participants in the Festival. Through their efforts, more people will get help to get through this cold winter.

The vegetables were donated by Shine's mum from ISA Wenhua Wuhan Primary School. She contacted the ISA Wuhan Charity Fund in the first instance after she learnt about the ISA Festival Charity Bazaar, and took the initiative to donate agricultural and sideline products free of charge for us to sell and raise funds.

"A drop in the bucket is a drop in the bucket, we're just a little hummingbird with a little heart." Shine’s mother said. With her own act of kindness, she shared with us the Story of the Hummingbird: "When a huge fire broke out in the forest, and all the animals were terrified and looked on helplessly at the inevitable catastrophe, only the tiny hummingbird rushed to the small pond, picked up a few drops of water in its beak, and threw it to the flames. This repeated non-stop action inspired other animals to take action and put out the fire. Charity is exactly the same, as long as the heart is compassionate and persists in doing good deeds that can help others, it will one day be able to help and influence many people."

On 16th November, ISA Wuhan Charity Fund and ISA Wenhua Wuhan Secondary Student Union held a "Clothes for Love" donation activity in the school to raise money for the students at Wuhan School for the Blind. Our students were blindfolded and walked over obstacles to experience the difficulties of travelling and living with blindness. "When I was blindfolded, I instantly didn't dare to walk forward, I was especially scared inside, and I felt that walking was much harder than before!" said one student. "When we were organising the activity, seeing so many students groping their way forward blindfolded made me think of the students at the School for Blind Children, and I really wanted to do something for them" said another.

On 18th November, ISA Wuhan Charity Fund and Puyuan International Kindergarten jointly carried out a parent-child public welfare marathon. 500 groups of families set up stalls for charity sales after the race and donated the proceeds to Aisha Public Welfare Fund, which was used to support the Cotton Clothes Donation Activity. During the three hours of charity sales, the ISA Wuhan Charity Fund's booth was constantly crowded with parents bringing their children to donate money and show their love.

Many parents brought their children to carefully watch the public service photos displayed on the site after making donations. Some children took the initiative to donate all the pocket money in their wallets after watching the photos. One yuan, five yuan, ten yuan, coins and banknotes were piled up all over the table. Every coin and every note was the children's pure love and kindness, like the winter sunshine warming everyone. ISA Wuhan Charity Fund gathered countless tiny candles with practical actions, hoping that the fire of the stars will form a prairie fire and illuminate the starry sky of the blind children.

This year, the ISA Wuhan Charity Fund also initiated a "Children's Book Donation" activity with school libraries to give books to children in remote mountainous areas. Each book contains a blessing written by ISA students, conveying knowledge and love from ISA.

The ISA Wuhan Charity Fund and Dr. Jozef Macak, Sports Coordinator of ISA Wuhan International School, launched the "12 Hour Basketball Tournament" after a visit to the Oncology Centre of the Wuhan Union Medical College (WUUCMC) to raise funds for two children suffering from osteosarcoma at the WUUCMC, on 20 January 2024.

Dr. Macak said, "It would be great and very meaningful if we could show our commitment by having a 12-hour basketball game between the ISA and Wuhan communities. Children and parents, doctors and nurses are fighting cancer night and day. We hope to raise money to bring practical help and encouragement to those who are battling so strongly against the disease, and to raise awareness of caring amongst ISA and the society. "

On the day of the "ISA Festival", students and parents gave a grand performance in the ISA School's Auditorium. A special highlight was a choral performance by the choir of Wuhan School for Blind Children, teachers and students of ISA, which brought the show to a climax.

As the ISA students walked slowly onto the stage holding the blind children, the whole audience applauded, and the more than 1,000 audience stood up with tears in their eyes, welcoming the blind children together.

Wuhan School for Blind Children's Six O’clock Angel Art , ISA Wuhan Teachers' and Students' Choir and ISA Wuhan Orchestra jointly performed the chorus "You Raise Me Up" for the audience, singing along with more than 1,000 audience members on stage. The songs not only conveyed courage and companionship, but also expressed the respect and love of everyone present for the blind children. Parents and teachers of the blind children also wept, and together with the members of the ISA community, they warmed the winter with the warmth of their hearts.

"Thanks to ISA Wuhan for letting the children stand on a different stage, letting more people see them and hear their innocent singing! What's more, it makes the children feel that there are so many people who love them, and shows them that even though they are visually impaired, they can still be treated fairly by society. They are worthy of everyone's help, and try to grow up so that they can help others in the future as well! This is the meaning of love, love needs to be passed on, let the children use music to pass on love and hope!" Mr. Zhang Long, teacher of Wuhan School for Blind Children, said from his heart after the performance.

There is hope when there is love. It is believed that ISA students and students from the Wuhan School for blind will work together under the nourishment of the ISA Wuhan Charity Fund. It is also believed that in the process of spending time with the children from the school. ISA students will be able to feel the meaning of life, appreciate the true meaning of strength, and promote them to feel the truth, goodness and beauty in a more direct and deeper way.

It is the original intention of the ISA Wuhan Charity Fund to let ISA students participate in the programme, to learn about society. To appreciate the difficulties of disadvantaged children, and to root love and dedication in their hearts from an early age. It is also the responsibility of world citizens to protect our beautiful planet. For this reason, this year the ISA Wuhan Charity Fund organised an environmental research activity at the Vegetable Research Institute of the Wuhan Academy of Agricultural Sciences (WAAAS). Under the guidance of the researchers, ISA student volunteers carried out two months of practical environmental research, including cultivation of edible mushrooms and aphid control fungi.

The Edible Mushrooms project focuses on the recycling of wheat lees and its impact on the nutritional quality of flat mushrooms, which is of great significance for waste reuse and human health; and the Aphid Bacteria project aims to assess the impact of Bacillus sphaericus on the vegetable pest aphid and the aphid's "natural predator", the ladybird beetle of different colours, in order to achieve the goal of reducing pesticide use and protecting the ecological environment.

Such practical activities allow students to explore the resourceful use of agricultural waste, food health, the construction of "biological natural enemies", reduce the use of chemical pesticides and other directions, thinking about how to reduce pollution. This is all rooted in the concept of green environmental protection, so that the ecological environment is better, and to protect the earth's homes on which we depend for our survival.

In the new school year, ISA Wuhan will always adhere to the public welfare of education, and will take the high-quality international educational resources as the basis to lead the teachers and students volunteers to Jushan Primary School to carry out regular teaching exchanges. Through the English and basketball lessons, we will help the students of Junshan Primary School to improve their English expression skills and enhance their sports qualities, thus contributing to the development of local education.

The school's young volunteers, who plan to use the scenario-based English teaching method in the charity English classes of Junshan Primary School, to enhance the teaching efficiency. Through the creation of context, not only can it enrich the classroom content and enhance students' interest in learning, but also improve students' creativity and thinking ability. In primary school English teaching, the application of contextual teaching methods are very important.

On 7th of December, the first grade students of ISA Wuhan International School launched the "UOI Winter Charity Bazaar Day" on the campus of ISA, integrating charity into the first grade UOI inquiry course. The students researched the needs of the ISA school community and with the help of their teachers and parents prepared a variety of stationery, gifts and toys for sale. 

The Winter Bazaar was well supported by all the students and teachers at ISA, with many teachers and students coming to the stalls during recess to support the children's efforts. All the money raised on the day of the fair was donated to the Charity Fund. This is not only an act of love by the students, but also an example of the integration of charity and the ISA curricula.
