The SKT-HOSA 2024 Preliminary Station was successfully completed at the end of December, ASJ students performed well in this year's SKT-HOSA Preliminary Station, a total of 19 students advanced to SKT-HOSA 2024 China, and at the end of the event, 18 students were awarded the appropriate honours after applying for their outstanding performance in the Preliminary Station. These included 5 students in the ATC Chemistry programme and 3 groups in the BCE programme.
HOSA - Future Health Professionals aims to stimulate students' interest in the field of life and healthcare through diversified and enriching study programmes, socially-connected activities and peer-to-peer exchanges, so as to develop future life and healthcare leaders with professional knowledge, leadership and a sense of social responsibility.
HOSA is a challenge dedicated to cultivating future leaders in the field of biology and healthcare, and its influence and recognition are very high globally. Our students participated in two of the HOSA competition events, including the ATC Biochemistry Discipline Fundamentals Exercise and the BCE Public Interest Impact Practice Exercise.
The HOSA 2024 Initial Station offered three types of exercises, 11 different disciplines and different forms of exercises in basic biochemistry, life and health professional disciplines, and health public welfare practice, which attracted the participation of students from more than 400 schools across the country, and resulted in an intense and exciting academic competition. After five months of study, preparation and practice, only nearly half of the HOSAers advanced to the SKT-HOSA 2024 China Study Stage - a summit feast for future leaders in life and health, challenging higher-order study tasks, making friends with like-minded people from all over the country, and exploring more diversified national offline study experiences.
ASJer at HOSA Beginner Station
make a big splash
In the past 4 months, our students learnt and learnt from each other with outstanding students from all over the country, and fully practiced life and health professionalism and public welfare leadership, laying a solid foundation for the future refinement of their professional direction. At present, our students have successfully completed all the projects of SKT-HOSA preliminary station and achieved excellent results.
Weeks before the competition, the students had several practice tests, drills and rehearsals for the competition to make sure that they would be able to perform at their best during the competition. Whether they were ATC students or BCE students, they spent a great deal of time each day reviewing, shooting footage, and editing their work, even at the expense of rest and recreation time. The process was tough, but the students always maintained a positive mindset and persevered in pursuing their goals.
In the end, the students' hard work paid off. They performed well in the competition and managed to advance to the next round. This is not only their personal achievement, but also an honour for our school!
This HOSA competition was our first time to participate in the BCE Public Service Impact Practical Exercise for short film production. 3 groups participated and all of them were promoted, the following are the feelings and works of the 3 groups of students who participated in the BCE:
In this HOSA BCE 30 seconds advert competition, we got the qualification for promotion, which is the result of our team's joint efforts and our best interpretation of the teamwork spirit.
Throughout the filming process, everyone did their best to work towards the same goal. Each of us has our own speciality, some are responsible for filming, some for editing and some for script writing. After a heated discussion in the early stages of the project, we started to rewrite the script. Based on the stream-of-consciousness principle of "don't have to tell if you don't want to", we introduced the sound of a fierce gunfight, and at the same time changed from a black scene to an over-the-shoulder battle scene when a game character is knocked down.
With an angry scream from the actor and the sound of a computer being violently capped, the scene shifts to black once again. The voice-over then appears - "How long has it been since you looked up at the world?" . Immediately after, the scene changes to the actor slowly standing up, opening the door and seeing the beauty outside, while his breathing gradually calms down from his original rapidity. All in all, the project went relatively well. Although there were some difficulties, we worked together and completed the task successfully.
At the end of this team competition, I would like to start by thanking Mr Tony and Ms Elaine. Thank you teachers for your guidance and support during this time, without your teaching and encouragement we could not have achieved such outstanding results. Secondly, I would like to thank our team for their hard work and co-operative spirit, every team member has put in great effort and shown immense unity and struggle.
Together we overcame the difficulties and reached our goal together. The competition not only gave us valuable experience, but also allowed us to learn more about each other's talents and abilities.
We learnt from each other and grew together. This experience of teamwork will have a profound impact in our future studies and lives. Once again, I would like to thank our teachers and students for their support and efforts. Let's continue to stay united and work together in pursuit of greater achievements!
After more than two months of preparation, we feel honoured to be able to advance to HOSA BCE China.
Firstly, we would like to thank Mr Tony for his encouragement and support during the pre-production period. Secondly, we would also like to thank the students of G11 G class for their active participation in the filming process, especially our editor Justine.
Last but not least, we expect the team members to keep working hard to achieve excellent results in the next China stop.
Before the HOSA competition, the Chemistry teacher organised a training session with all the students who had signed up for the competition to expand our knowledge and enrich our experience. Learning about moles, reaction rates, structures and other relevant chemistry topics also helped me at this stage of my DSE Chemistry studies. My teacher spent time in the evenings in the weeks leading up to the exam to conduct pre-test training, which helped me to better familiarise myself with and master basic chemistry, and I coped with the difficult questions in the official exam with particular ease. With the help of my teachers and my own revision, I was able to tackle the competition with ease.
This was my first time to participate in an all-English knowledge competition. Initially I was very nervous and lacked confidence, I signed up for this competition with the intention of trying. My teacher organised a training session a few weeks before the exam, using evening study, which gave me huge benefits and made me more comfortable to face the exam.
On the day the results were released, when I saw that I had got the results from other students, I was surprised to see that I had managed to be selected for the China Station Progression. This result gave me the motivation to keep moving forward.
Looking back on the whole process of the competition, it was full of difficulties and challenges, but in the end, it also brought me a lot of opportunities and gains. Not only did I consolidate my knowledge of chemistry, but more importantly, I got a taste of the success that customer service and never giving up can bring me.
Thank you for the excellent performance of ASJers, this is the second year that our school has participated in the HOSA competition, students participated in the ATC last year and the China station, get very valuable learning experience, after this year's activities in this new semester, the students and tutors continue to work hard to challenge, in addition to Chemistry and Biology ATC, to participate in the more difficult BCE project, looking forward to their participation in the China station activities to further, have a richer unforgettable results and experiences, interest is the best teacher, looking forward to the students' tutors, in the way of science and technology, to find everyone's bright spot.
Because the HOSA Chemistry Competition is full of English topics and because many of the students have not yet learnt them, we have organised for the students to use the evening study time to learn the knowledge and explain the questions.
The students who participated in this competition worked hard to overcome the difficulties to attend on time and were very serious and attentive in class, they would record the knowledge points that the teacher talked about, record the process of reviewing the questions and analysing and explaining the process, and also take the initiative to find the teacher to solve the problems after the class.
Students were able to reap the fruits of their efforts in the end, with three students regrettably missing out on advancing by 1-2 questions, and five students successfully qualifying for the Advance China Station.
It was a great achievement for our team that the students performed well in this event and managed to advance to the China leg. Firstly, I would like to thank the students for their hard work and dedication. They put in a lot of time and effort in preparing for the event, constantly practising and improving their skills. Their hard work and perseverance were the key to our team's success.
Secondly, I would like to thank Mr Zhan as well as Mr Leung for their efforts. During the preparation process, we worked together to develop a detailed training plan and strategy, constantly making adjustments and improvements. Our coaches also gave us a lot of valuable advice and guidance to help us better cope with the challenges in the competition.
All in all, this event was a major milestone in a great success for the team. I am confident that our students will continue to achieve better results and performances in the China stop.
