Pre-K (Evan Kirby)

This week the students are reviewing different primary and secondary color mixtures. The students are exploring the different effects of crayons and paint when color mixing. They had so much fun!








K2 (Evan Kirby)

This week students are continuing our patterns workshop and learning to create patterns all by themselves. The students are also looking at patterns in our environment and learning to add them into their own works of art. Magnificent work team!














K3 (Evan Kirby)

This week the students continued working on their Matisse paper paintings. We also had a combined learning experience with both K3 classes on coral reefs. The students got to study the science of coral and create still life drawings based on the different patterns Found on these beautiful sea creatures.


Grade 1 (Katija Bogdanic)

For our introduction to weaving project, students this week created paper collage snakes as their “weft” and next week we will be painting our grass for our “warp”. The paper snakes will be used to weave through the painted grass as we learn the fundamentals of weaving. Students are being mindful of color, pattern, and shape as we finish collaging our snakes.






Grade 2 (Katija Bogdanic)

Continuing our Culture in Art unit, this week students learned how to focus on repetition and symmetry to create their own mandals in their sketchbooks. We used these as first drafts for our foam-block mandala prints. Students carved their drawings into foam and next week we will be ready for printing!

Grade 3 (Katija Bogdanic)

For our joined unit of inquiry, “How We Live” students worked on their maps in Art class. They focused on climate, vegetation, animals, and landmarks to sculpt the landscapes of their countries out of clay.

Grade 4 (Katija Bogdanic)

This week students engaged in a gallery walk providing constructive feedback on each movie set. We shared advice on how to complete our backgrounds and finalize our characters before the filming process next week.


Grade 5 (Katija Bogdanic)

This week we added embroidered details to our landscapes, creating a more finalized look to our textile art. As we wrap up this long-term project, students are encouraged to engage in their own self-assessments, determining their level of completion and time management. 







Grade 6 (Roxane Joubert)

Using the last two weeks to complete their A3 artworks, our ever-productive Grade 6’s completed began working on their 3D component for UNIT 2. We explored the tactile nature of air-dry clay, using our observation skills to recreate micro- and macroscopic forms and textures. This aim of this activity is to enhance our understanding of form, texture and space, whilst giving us the opportunity to use our hands and sculpting tools to shape, manipulate and sculpt in the 3D.








Grade 7 (Roxane Joubert)

This week in Grade 7,students continued their study on practical animal anatomy as part of their preparation for the upcoming field trip to Anhui Aquarium. Our focus centered on asymmetrical animals like the seahorse, using drawing techniques involving axes and basic shapes. Emphasis was placed on mindful sketching, polishing our skills in capturing shadows, highlights, and textures. Students also worked on maintaining balanced compositions, ensuring proportionate representations of the observed subjects. These activities contribute to their holistic understanding of artistic expression and scientific observational skills.


Grade 8 (Roxane Joubert)

Grade 8 students continued their study of one-point perspective using grids and technical drawing techniques to draft their interior spaces. Students paid close attention to their use of linear perspective, shading techniques, and sensible use of foreshortening. Additionally, our more advanced artists investigated more nuanced drawing techniques, such as how to render highly reflective polished surfaces such as chrome and other textured surfaces in a bid to submit a more refined artwork.

Summary: Grade 1 students explored the basics of musical scales, uncovering the essential elements of melody. The lessons emphasized introducing fundamental concepts to establish a strong foundation for their musical journey.

Topic: Note Values - Whole, Half, Quarter

Summary: Grade 2 students dived into the realm of rhythm, grasping the significance of whole notes, half notes, and quarter notes. Engaging activities and rhythm games enriched their practical understanding of these crucial musical elements.


Grade 3 (Snow Boudreau)

Topic: Whole, Half, Sixteenth Notes

Summary: Grade 3 students deepened their rhythmic knowledge by adding sixteenth notes to their repertoire. The lessons aimed at cultivating a profound understanding of note durations and enhancing their rhythmic precision.


Grade 4 (Snow Boudreau)

Topic: Half, Quarter, Sixteenth Notes

Summary: Grade 4 students sharpened their musical skills with a focus on half notes, quarter notes, and sixteenth notes. In preparation for an upcoming test, students engaged in entertaining music games designed to reinforce their comprehension and application of these note values.




Grade 5 (Snow Boudreau)

Topic: Rhythmic Elements - Half, Quarter, Sixteenth Notes

Summary: Building on Grade 4's foundation, Grade 5 students revisited the complexities of half notes, quarter notes, and sixteenth notes. The week's activities aimed at refining their musical acumen, ensuring thorough preparation for an upcoming assessment.


Grade 6 (Jose Correia)

It's working the unit "An Introduction to Theatre," offers students an exciting exploration of the captivating world of theatre. Throughout the course, students will become familiar with essential theatre terminology, discover the diverse practices of theatre around the globe, and engage in a variety of stimulating activities such as script work and devising.


Grade 7 (Jonny Turvey)

This week in Grade 7 Drama, our students began their final project for the theatre history unit, as we approach the end of Semester 1. This project requires small groups to research specific eras of theatre history and create engaging multi-media presentations. These presentations, designed to be both informative and dynamic, will incorporate various elements such as videos, moving pictures, and voice-overs, offering a rich, interactive learning experience. The culmination of this project will be a unique, exhibition-style event, where all presentations will run concurrently. This format allows students to immerse themselves in a vibrant educational environment, walking around to gather information and insights into the diverse phases of theatre history.














Grade 8 (Jose Correia)

The grade 8 worked on body percussion with harmony, in which they had to compose a harmonic sequence with melody, snapping fingers, clapping, chest, legs and vocal sounds, now they started to prepare a comedy performance.


Grade 9 (Jose Correia)

In this unit students will explore the performance and analysis of music in which they have to choose a piece and compose the music and script, now they started preparing the performance and acting.


Grade 10 (Jose Correia)

They are working in the IB Areas of Inquiry (World Music for sociocultural and political expression, listening and performance, dramatic impact, movement and entertainment, technology in the electronic and digital age, At the moment they are working on musical sampling composition of a piece for performance.
