In Grade 1, students continued to assist new students in acclimating to their new environment by showing them around, helping them complete tasks, and inviting them to join their games and playgroups during snack time. It is heartwarming to witness Grade 1 students acting as older siblings and caring for their new classmates.

The Grade 2 class kicked off their new Unit of Inquiry, ‘Sharing the Planet,’ by exploring the concept of resources and their importance. Students actively engaged in group activities and presentations, sharing their unique perspectives on resources with their classmates, fostering collaboration and understanding within the class.

In Grade 3, the students began their new Unit Of Inquiry by dissecting the central idea for the unit. The students researched and presented a clear definition of natural resources, understanding them to be useful materials not made by people or machinery. Focussing on water, they discussed and debated the importance of water and its supply level for different purposes, enabling them to solve problems collectively.

Grade 4

Grade 4 students began their new Unit of Inquiry on natural disasters by reflecting on their previous knowledge. Students showed their socio-emotional development through their ability to have more in-depth discussions, showcasing the outstanding growth of their communication skills.

Art

In Art class, each grade's activities promoted the students' social-emotional development. 


Kindergarten 3 and Grade 1 students explored natural elements for their eco-friendly artworks.


Grade 2 and Grade 3 students learnt about artist Andy Goldsworthy's works, while Grade 4, 5, and 6 students delved into the impact of climate change on albatross habitats by watching a short video from the filmmaker Chris Jordan. Through collaboration, problem-solving, and empathy-building experiences, students developed resilience and deepened their connection to both artistic expression and environmental caretaking.

Music

Respect for others, when they display their work or perform on stage, is always a significant aspect of our music classes, because it has a huge impact on how students embrace challenges, build their self-confidence, and express emotions with enthusiasm.


Kindergarten 3 students explored the correct hand posture in regard to piano playing. In particular, they showed respectful behaviour towards their peers when they showcased their technique. 


In Grade 1, each student showed interest in playing drums by reading rhythms. 


Grade 2 students learned hand signs with songs. Additionally, they were encouraged to maintain a positive attitude during their peers’ performances.


Grade 3 students explored different street dance genres, such as hip-hop, jazz, breaking, and locking. They then let their ideas and emotions be openly conveyed in their communication with others. 


Grade 6 students started to compose a song called ‘New Shoes,’ in which the main theme is the sense of respect they feel for their classmates as well as the proper and correct way to relate their feedback to them.

This week, students from Grade 1 to Grade 6 were introduced to the skill of typing. Typing is the process of inputting data into a device, such as a computer, by using a keyboard. It is an essential tool for expressing thoughts, sharing information, and connecting with others in the digital world. Typing is an important communication skill in ICT and plays a significant role in socio-emotional development, particularly in today's digital age.

Grade 1 students learned about the origin of family names whilst examining the text 姓氏歌 (XingShi Ge— The Song of Surnames). Family names were initially the names of a tribe or a tribal leader. However, with the development of society, family names gradually became a sign and symbol for distinguishing the blood relationship of family members. Therefore, students with the same surname learned about their ancestors and famous people through exploration, enhancing their sense of family and cultural identity.

The Spring Festival plays an important role in Chinese culture. It reflects the Chinese people's respect for their ancestors and families, and their expectations and blessings for the future. 

This week, Grade 6 students especially focussed on how old Beijingers used to celebrate the Spring Festival. According to the old customs in Beijing, the Spring Festival should be held at the beginning of the twelfth lunar month. This is a very important moment for old Beijingers because it represents a time to dedicate to family reunions and emotional exchange. However, with the development of society and the improvement of people's living standards, people's emotions towards the Spring Festival have changed. The traditional customs and etiquette of the Spring Festival have gradually been simplified, and the time to reunite with the family has become shorter and shorter. Some people even hate the Spring Festival. Grade 6 students analysed and discussed the above-mentioned differences and investigated the reasons for the changes in people’s emotions towards the Spring Festival.

春节在中国文化中具有重要的地位,它体现了中国人民对祖先的尊重,对家庭的重视,以及对未来的期待和祝福。在本周的学习中,六年级的孩子们了解了老北京人过春节的习俗。按照北京的老规矩,春节差不多在腊月的初旬就开始了,春节对于老北京人来说非常重要,因为它代表着家庭团聚和情感交流的重要时刻。但是随着社会的发展,人们生活条件的改善,人们对春节的情感发生了变化。过年的传统习俗和礼节逐渐被削弱,与家人团聚的时刻变得越来越短暂,甚至有一部分人讨厌过年。六年级的学生们针对这样的变化进行了分析和讨论,并找出了年味由浓变淡的原因。

Library

With the start of the new Unit of Inquiry, students, together with their teachers, visited the library to select books for their classroom reading spaces. These books are related to the respective central ideas of each grade. 


Additionally, the Lower Primary Library Club students enjoyed a ‘refresher’ activity and, in pairs, completed an interactive picture scavenger hunt. Students also practised their communication skills by listening to a story, ‘Back to Earth with a Bump,’ and verbally answering questions. 


The Upper Primary Library Club students worked on a ‘Library Lingo’ word search as a fun and engaging way to improve their problem-solving skills and widen their vocabulary related to the library.

Chinese Maths

Chinese Maths

Grade 1 students learnt about the characteristics of rectangles, squares, triangles, circles, and parallelograms, and explored the relationship between plane and three-dimensional shapes. Whilst completing jigsaw puzzles, the students created many interesting patterns and experienced the fun of learning Maths.       

Grade 6 students experienced how mathematical concepts can be applied to real-life situations. In particular, they learnt about positive and negative numbers in terms of measuring temperatures, designing floors, and recording income and expenditure. 


Furthermore, using knowledge of percentages to calculate discounts on real-life purchases creates a link between life and Maths and stimulates students' interest in the subject.

中文数学


一年级的学生学习了长方形,正方形,三角形,圆形,平行四边形的特征,感知平面图形与立体图形间的一些关系。在拼七巧板的过程中,学生们创作了不少有趣的图案,从中感受数学学习的乐趣。 


本周六年级在测量温度,设计楼层,收入与支出的记录中学习正数与负数,体验生活中的数学。利用百分数的知识来计算实际生活中购物的打折问题,建立了生活与数学的链接,激发学生对数学的兴趣。

P.E.

Kindergarten 3 and Grade 1 learnt how to play dribbling knockout. Each student had to maintain and guard their position within a square. They attempted to keep the ball with them at all times without it being kicked away by their opponents. The children conveyed their ideas and emotions throughout the entire game, effectively interacting with their peers.


Grade 2 and Grade 3 played the ‘Millipede’ game, in which the students, standing in different lines, had to pass a ball around following diverse instructions each time. The students were encouraged to communicate and maintain a positive attitude towards their teammates.
