In our day and age, we constantly experience technological advancements and successes, which can undoubtedly make our lives more comfortable and convenient.

However, we often forget how rewarding and enjoyable activities that do not require the use of technological devices and tools can be.

For instance, playing outdoors and reading books are not only fun, but they can also be beneficial to children’s health and social development, whilst boosting their memorisation skills and imagination.

Books, in particular, can help children experience the beauty of immersing themselves in fantasy worlds where they can change their identities and mould their realities.

Furthermore, regular reading routines expose children to new vocabulary and phrases that are essential to the enhancement of their overall language skills.

To encourage our students’ personal and emotional growth, as well as to develop their social and language skills, last term, the Upper Primary students participated in a reading project that found its conclusion in a battle of the books at the start of the current month.

Grades 4 to 6 were initially divided into teams and assigned sets of books varying in genres, length, and language. Over three months, from December to February, they had the opportunity to read, analyse, discuss, and take notes on their books.

Then, on the first days of March, kicking off our Literacy Month, they battled each other and tested their knowledge, challenging themselves to complete all the quizzes and questions posed.

All the students involved did an incredible job! Their perseverance was truly commendable, especially because, over their preparation months, they managed to read up to 1400 pages!
