校园浪费现象的探究

PYP小学五年级的教师和学生一直在推进“共享地球”单元的教学与学习。在过去的几周里,学生被分为了五个小组,共同探究与制定减少校园浪费的计划,也对校园浪费进行五个类型的分类,分别是纸张浪费、食物浪费、用水浪费、电力浪费与其他产生的垃圾。


在一次会议上,不同的小组制作了PPT来展示他们已经发现的各种问题与资料。下一步就是找出解决方案。当然,五年级的学生也已经准备好采取行动,为改善环境作出积极的改变。

Over the past few weeks in Grade 5, we have been developing plans for reducing waste in the school as part of our 'Sharing the Planet' unit. Five teams in the class have been working to combat five different types of common waste that schools usually have - paper waste, food waste, water waste, electricity waste and the amount of trash that is produced. 


In an assembly, the teams created presentations to showcase the information they had discovered already about the various problems. The next step was coming up with solutions and Grade 5 is certainly ready to take action and make a positive difference.


Food Wsste

关注“食物浪费”小组的实践

关注“食物浪费”的小组通过调查,确定了校园食物浪费产生的可能性——主要来源于每天的正餐和零食时间。因此,他们提出了在校园用堆肥法处理这些厨余,将垃圾变为肥料,用于学校的生物园。


把这一方案提交给学校管理部门后,食物浪费处理小组进行了一次实验,寻找可回收材料,来验证这样的方法是否有效,也因此他们成为了学校这一回收项目的负责人。


这一小组也制作了一份演示报告,为大家解释食物的分类,比如哪些食物可以放在哪里、哪些不能放在哪里,以及需要进行哪些程序来保存这些废料,以达到简化分解的手续和过程。



The food waste team identified meal times and snack times as the main sources of food waste in the school, and they proposed the solution of creating a compost pile on campus that will be used to turn trash into fertiliser for the school gardens.


After presenting a proposal to the administration, and finding recycled materials, the food waste team has now become responsible for the school’s first compost pile, which will be a trial to see how well the idea works.


The food waste team has also made a presentation explaining what types of food can be put in there and what cannot, and the work that needs to be done to maintain the pile and hopefully streamline the decomposition process.

Water Waste

节约水电的行动

关注水电浪费的小组致力于设计海报提醒人们节约水电。比如,在洗手间或者教室里写上“请随手关灯”的提示贴。


关注水资源的组员希望人们注意到使用卫生间、洗手或者刷牙时浪费了多少水,关注用电的组员则鼓励大家减少IPAD、电子黑板、空调和电灯的耗电量。因为两个小组遇到的问题都是相似的,所以他们都采用相似的方法来解决问题。



The electricity and water waste teams have been working hard to design posters that help to remind everyone to ‘Turn It Off’ when they are in the bathroom or leaving the classrooms.


The water team hopes to draw attention to how much water is wasted when flushing the toilet, washing hands, or brushing teeth. The electricity team hopes to motivate the community to reduce using so much power for iPads, smartboards, air-conditioning, and lights. Because their problems are similar, both teams have approached their solutions in similar ways.


Paper Wsste

废纸处理:回收与再造

在此学习单元开始之时,班上的学生一起学习了废纸的回收与再制造。如今,在阳光充裕的条件下,他们可以每天制作14张再生纸用于学习。到目前为止,五年级已经制作了超过100张新的纸张,而且每周都能想到使用这种纸的新方法。通过在学校分享这种方法,关注废纸处理的小组希望引起大家对大量不必要纸张使用的关注,以及呼吁大家不要随意丢弃纸张。

Recycled Paper


The class learned how to recycle paper at the start of the unit, and now students can make up to 14 new sheets of recycled paper every day (if it is sunny enough). So far Grade 5 has produced over 100 new sheets of paper and we are coming up with new ways to use this paper every week! By spreading this message, the paper team hopes to draw attention to the large amounts of paper that are used and thrown away unnecessarily in the school.

垃圾分类

垃圾处理小组与关注食物浪费和纸张浪费的小组共同协作,制定了一个计划——让教室配备几个箱子,一个用于收集可回收的纸张,一个用于收集食物以进行后续的堆肥处理。垃圾处理小组使用经过设计的可重复使用的盒子,其带有简单、无接触的盖子,从而让整个处理过程保持尽可能的干净。



The trash team has developed a plan that works with the food team and the paper team so that each classroom is equipped with boxes to collect paper for recycling, and other boxes to collect classroom wastes that can be used in the compost. The trash team has used designed reusable boxes with easy, contact-free doors so that the process is as clean as possible.

TWIS校园文化的愿景


五年级不同的小组分工与合作,提出了全面的计划书,以提高TWIS每个学生对于校园浪费现象的认识,也希望这项计划和知识能在本学年剩余的时间里保持下去,并为未来的学生继续发扬减少浪费的态度打下基础。虽然这只是第一步,但五年级学生播下来的“种子”将会茁壮成长,成为TWIS校园文化的重要组成部分,甚至是广泛的中华美德的一部分。

Working together, the Grade 5 teams have come up with a comprehensive plan for raising the waste accountability of each student in TWIS. Hopefully, the programs we implement will be maintained for the rest of the school year, and provide the foundation for a permanent attitude towards waste reduction that future students will carry forward. While this is just the first step, the seed we plant now will grow into an unstoppable movement that will form a vital part of the TWIS culture, and hopefully, the broader Chinese culture as well.
