今天的“后浪说”,是由IHS高中部陈思宏同学和大家分享关于他与他的热爱。

Hi, my name is Louis from IG1-2. I am a lover of aviation photography, which in a nutshell means taking pictures of airplanes. I started to like aviation just before my transition from middle school to high school. The covid pandemic came back just two weeks after the new school year, and we were all stuck at home doing online lessons. Every day after all of my online classes, I would feel extremely bored. That’s when I thought of an idea that I could head to the airport and take pictures of commercial aircrafts landing and taking off. After that, I would rush to the airport almost every day and spend the rest of the afternoon taking pictures.

After some time, I started to meet a variety of different people also taking aviation photography in Xiamen. They introduced me to some new spots to take pictures and also tell me what special aircraft is coming and what time they will arrive. At first, I used a basic camera that messed up most photos by making them overexposed and blurry. Knowing I wanted to get better at taking these photos, I gratefully received a new camera which can zoom in further and produces better quality images.

一段时间后,我开始结识一些在厦门也从事航空摄影的朋友。他们给我介绍了一些新的拍照地点,并且提前告诉我有什么特殊的飞机以及什么时候到达。起初,我使用了一个糟糕的相机,大多数照片拍得模糊不清。当我开始想要更好地拍摄这些照片时,我收到了一台新相机,它可以进一步放大并产生更好质量的图像。


Just recently, I had two of my photos accepted onto a website called JetPhotos. This is a website made for pictures of aircraft. If my photos get accepted, then when somebody looks up the information about the specific aircraft that I just took a picture of on an app called Flightradar24, the app will display images of that aircraft including my own. This app can also track live flights all around the world.

JetPhotos has a lot of requirements for images, and that’s what makes it so hard to successfully upload an image onto their website. For example, the sun needs to be facing the side of the aircraft that I’m trying to take a picture of and there should be light on every part of the aircraft on the specific side. Second, the nose and tail of the aircraft needs to be aligned, as well as the background. If I misaligned the image even just by a few degrees, then it will be rejected. And of course, the image needs to be high quality and not blurry. There is one last reason that makes uploading images on JetPhotos so hard. It takes about a week for your photos to get examined. For starters, only five images are able to be queued for examination at once. If one of them gets rejected after examination, it’ll take 14 days until I can upload images for queue again. If more images pass the examination, I will be able to upload more photos at once.

There was a great satisfaction when my photos get accepted because the requirements are extremely high and everyone in the world that looks up the aircraft on Flightradar24 will see your picture. Flightradar24 is also the most popular app used to track flights all around the world. The link to my two images on JetPhotos will be below.

We have seen a lot of improvements within aviation in China, with China Southern Airlines being an operator of the Airbus A380, the largest commercial aircraft in the world. That is already something a lot of airlines have failed to achieve. With over 5000 airlines in the world, there are only 15 airlines that operate the A380. China also has a total of 6100 commercial aircrafts while the entire world has a sum of 25000. There are about 70 airlines in China; both large and minor. The picture below shows the major airlines in China.

我们已经看到中国航空业的很多进步,中国南方航空公司是世界上最大的商用飞机空中客车A380的运营商。这已经是很多航空公司无法实现的。全球有 5000 多家航空公司,运营 A380 的航空公司只有 15 家。中国有6100架商用飞机,而全世界总量为25000架。中国有大约70家航空公司。

While almost all of these airlines purchase aircrafts from the American and French companies Boeing and Airbus, China Eastern Airlines had already preordered 5 of the newest Chinese made commercial aircraft, the C919, made by Comac. A new type of Chinese made aircraft named the ARJ21 which is also made by Comac will soon be on the market. Both of these aircrafts are narrow-body aircrafts, only used for short regional trips. But once Comac has released a wide body aircraft, more airlines will start to operate using the company’s products. 

虽然这些航空公司几乎都从美国和法国的波音和空中客车公司购买飞机,但东航已经预购了中国商飞制造的 5 架最新商用飞机 C919。同为中国商飞制造的新型国产飞机ARJ21也即将上市。这两种飞机都是窄体飞机,仅用于短途区域旅行。但一旦中国商飞发布了宽体飞机,更多的航空公司将开始运营该公司的产品。


Although Chinese airlines is a huge operator of aircrafts, there are some parts where they can learn from airlines from other countries. For example, sometimes the quality of the blankets given on Chinese airlines aren’t as good as others’. The feeling on the other airlines’ blankets are soft and smooth but in Chinese airlines they will feel thick and thorny. Chinese airlines can also have more special liveries for different routes. Like All Nippon Airways, they made three special liveried A380s of an type of Hawaiian sea turtle to celebrate their new route from Hawaii to Tokyo (As displayed in the picture). These themed liveries will attract more avation lovers to take pictures and fly on their aircrafts.

虽然中国航空公司拥有庞大的飞机运营商,但也有一些不足可以向其他国家的航空公司学习。例如,有时中国航空公司提供的毛毯质量不如其他航空公司。很多国外航空公司的毛毯手感柔软光滑,但中国航空公司提供的毛毯感觉更为粗糙一些。另外,中国航空公司还可以为不同的航线提供更多的特殊涂装,更富个性,就像全日空航空公司一样,他们制作了三架夏威夷海龟的特殊涂装的A380,以庆祝他们从夏威夷到东京的新航线(如图所示)。这些主题涂装将吸引更多的航空爱好者前来拍照和体验飞行。
