从小对艺术绘画的热情让我想在大学期间学习艺术专业。视觉艺术和戏剧课程也一直是我的最爱。在百忙之中,它们总可以让我放松身心、释放能量。在课余创作中,我发现自己很享受设计角色、讲述故事、并把一个全新的世界展现在观众眼前的过程。


My passion for art drawing since I was a child made me want to study art for my undergraduate degree. The Visual Arts and Drama classes have also been my favorites throughout my four years at AIC. In my spare time, I found myself enjoy designing characters, telling stories, and bringing a whole new world to the audience.

参观AIC的时候,我一下就被六楼浓厚的艺术氛围征服了。随后在与校长和老师的面谈中,我充分了解到了AIC的IB课程远不止于拿到好成绩那么简单。它看重及培养的是学生们积极探究的兴趣、懂得关爱的善心、勇于尝试的动力以及平衡生活与学业的能力。这种与我初中时截然不同的教育理念让我对AICIB课程产生了极大的兴趣。


When I visited AIC, I was conquered by the strong artistic atmosphere on the art floor. In subsequent interviews with the Head of School and teachers, I fully understood that AIC's IB program is much more than just getting good grades: it values and cultivates students' interest in active inquiry, caring kindness, motivation to try, and to balance life and study. This educational philosophy is so much different to my junior high school which made me very interested in AIC-IB.

AIC是一所非常尊重学生的学校。学生所提出的合理建议都会由学生会直接转达至校长进行处理。我记得PDP3的时候,学生事务调和员就和我们讨论收手机这一规则的利弊,并以非常尊重我们的态度聆听我们的想法。在这种学校氛围中,学生的权力得到了尊重。同时,我学习到如何合理地表达自己的需求,也学会了如何站在他人和学校的角度思考问题。


学校能给予学生很多机会。虽然AIC规模较小,但是也因此凸显了个体的重要性。刚来到AIC的时候,我胆小、内向、不会争取机会。在一次排球比赛中,我被“逼迫”着上场。尽管我们学院没有人会排球,但是通过不断的训练和团队合作的意识,我们最终夺得了第二名的好成绩。通过那次比赛,我体会到了我在团体中的重要性,并学会主动去抓住机会。


不仅如此,AIC提供的教育和国际本科教育方式十分相似。在AIC,很少有老师会一步一步带着学生去学习,考验了学生们自主探究的能力。这四年中,我学会用谷歌、YouTube去搜索我想了解的知识。这个过程不仅提升了我的搜索能力,还锻炼了我的阅读速度、听力能力和理解的准确性,让我能更容易地跟外国人沟通,并为我准备标化考试和打下了坚实的基础。


AIC is a very respectful school for students. Reasonable suggestions made by students will be forwarded to the Head of School by the student Council. I remember when I was in PDP3, the student affairs dispatcher and the staff discussed the benefits of the cell phone rule with us; we were listened to and respected. In a school like this, where I am valued, where I am empowered and allowed to think about matters from different angles is what I like most.

Although AIC is small community, it gives students many opportunities; it also highlights the importance of the individual.  When I first came to AIC, I was timid, introverted, and not willing to take chances.  Once in a volleyball game, I was “encouraged” to play. Although no one in our House was good at volleyball, through constant training and teamwork, we finished second. Because of that competition, I realized how important I was in the group and learned to take initiatives to seize opportunities I was presented with.

The education provided by AIC is very similar to that of international undergraduate education.  At AIC, very few teachers take students to learn step by step; instead, they test the students' ability to explore independently and constantly encourage it. In the past four years, I learned to use Google and YouTube to search for the knowledge I wanted to know. This process not only improved my research skills, but also improved my reading speed, listening ability and comprehension accuracy; it made it easier for me to communicate with foreigners, and laid a solid foundation for me to prepare for standardized tests.

我印象最深的经历是担任学生会主席。在此之前,我一直没有参与过学生会,所以对流程非常不熟悉。在询问了上届学生会成员之后,我将学生会设定为一个收集学生意见、讨论解决方式、并与学校沟通的服务于学生的集体。通过学生会意见箱和大大小小的会议,我们购置了架子,以处理书包乱扔的问题;我们还与多个老师沟通,以解决学生提出的建议。在2021-2022学年的开始,我们准备了为时一天的开学典礼。早在上一学年的五月份,我们就已经完成规划并分配好任务。暑假期间,我也与品学兼优的Tiffany副会长撰写、排练演讲稿并制作PPT,以求开幕式万无一失。提前返校后,我们发出去多封邮件,并与各个项目的负责老师沟通交流,确保我们一切顺利。在所有学生会成员的努力下,开幕式圆满举行,并受到了诸多好评,我们也感到满满的成就感。


My most memorable experience was serving as the Student Council President. I had never been involved in the student union before. I was very unfamiliar with it. After talking to the previous student council members, I gathered the student council as a group to serve students by collecting students' opinions, discussing solutions, and communicating with the school through the Student Council suggestion box and meetings. We purchased shelves to deal with the problem of schoolbags littering; we also communicated with multiple teachers to address suggestions made by students. At the beginning of the 2021-2022 school year, we prepared the first student organized orientation for students. As early as May of the previous school year, we had finished planning and assigned tasks. During the summer vacation, I also wrote and rehearsed speeches and made PPTs with the Vice President, Tiffany, who is excellent in both character and study, so as to ensure that the opening ceremony was a success. After returning to school early, we sent out multiple emails and communicated with the teachers in charge of each project to ensure that everything went smoothly for us. Thanks to the efforts of all the members of the student union, the event was successfully held and we received a lot of praise. We also felt a full sense of achievement.

另一件难忘的事情发生于DP1我们组织的一次CAS活动。我们的CAS项目旨在学习、宣传可持续农业发展,因此我们打算去一个农场实地学习。最开始,我们并没有多方面考虑这个行为的影响,因此我们的计划差点被CAS调节员否决。通过与老师的沟通,我们认识到我们需要考虑安全、防疫和责任的问题。因此,我们制定了行为准则、与学校沟通这次的行程、并查看了官方防疫规定。最后,我们顺利地完成了我们的计划。这次经历让我体会到个人行为背后所需要考虑的道德伦理问题,也让我在做出行动之前理性思考其可能带来的后果和影响。


Another unforgettable incident happened at a CAS event we organized in DP1. Our CAS program aimed to learn and promote sustainable agricultural development. We intended to go to a farm to learn on the ground. In the beginning, we didn't consider the impact of this behavior in many ways; unfortunately, our plan was rejected by the CAS coordinator. Through communication with teachers, we realized that we needed to consider the issues of safety, epidemic prevention and responsibility. Therefore, we developed a code of conduct, communicated with the school about this trip, and reviewed the official epidemic prevention regulations. In the end, we successfully completed our plan. This experience made me realize the moral and ethical issues that needed to be considered behind personal actions, and it also made me think rationally about the possible consequences and impacts before taking actions.

梦校申请

Dream school application

从小对艺术绘画的热情让我想在大学期间学习艺术专业。在AIC的这四年中,视觉艺术和戏剧课程也一直是我的最爱。在百忙之中,它们总可以让我放松身心、释放能量。在课余创作中,我发现自己很享受设计角色、讲述故事、并把一个全新的世界展现在观众眼前的过程。因此,我选择了动画这一与艺术、表演、想象力和思想都息息相关的专业作为申请方向。刚开始听说艾米丽卡尔是在我pdp3的时候,因此,我很早就开始着手准备申请了。在pdp4时,我成功申请到了罗德岛动画专业的夏校课程,而后因为疫情没法过去,上了CalArts(加州艺术学院)为期两周的线上夏校。在夏校中,我看到了来自世界各地同龄人的画作,也意识到了自己基础的薄弱。后来,我便“恶补”基本功,在暑假的时候每天都练习一个多小时速写。


My passion for art drawing since I was a child made me want to study art in college. The Visual Arts and Drama classes have also been my favorites throughout my four years at AIC. In my spare time, I found myself enjoy designing characters, telling stories, and bringing a whole new world to the audience. Therefore, I chose animation, a major that is closely related to art, performance, imagination and thought as the application direction. I first heard about Emily Carr when I was in PDP3, so I started preparing for the application very early. In the PDP4, I successfully applied for the Rhode Island animation summer school program, and then because of the epidemic, I went to CalArts (California college of the Arts) for a two-week online summer school. In the summer school, I saw paintings from my peers from all over the world, and I also realized the weakness of my foundation. Later, I "reinforced" the basic skills and practiced sketching for more than an hour every day during the summer vacation.

总体来说,我觉得准备作品集最重要的是用易懂的方式准确表达自己的所思所想,许多院校看重的也正是这一点。我会在生活中观察并记录有趣的事情和人物形象,画在sketchbook上,作为我之后项目的灵感来源。基本功也非常重要。只有有了基本功,才可以将自己脑海中的画面成功地呈现在观众眼前。因此,我也经常练习速写、色彩和构图,把他们当作我每天必须要完成的事情。


In general, I think the most important thing in preparing a portfolio is to accurately express what you think in an easy-to-understand way, which is what many colleges are looking for. I will observe and record interesting things and characters in my life, and draw them on my sketchbook as an inspiration for my future projects. Basic skills are as important, with basic skills can you easily and clearly present the picture in your mind to the audience. I also practice sketching, coloring, and composition a lot, treating them as things I have to do every day.

AIC的学习比较强调思辨和自主学习,能够很好地衔接今后进入大学的学习方式。在AIC的学习过程中,老师并不简单、直接地把知识点教授给学生,而是启发式教育。老师课上把基本的知识和重点进行阐述后,更加要求并鼓励学生在课后通过教材、网络自主学习和深化。这种学习方式为学生建立了自主学习的能力,为今后的大学阶段打好了基础。

作为学生家长我感受较深的事情是孩子参加竞选学生会主席。在我的印象中,孩子属于那种比较安静、不会主动表现自己的人,并不会热衷于社会活动。因此,AIC的教育模式对于孩子的益处是全方位的,除了知识本身,还强调冒险强调奉献,有利于培养孩子健全的人格。

孩子今年就毕业了,她这些年的优异表现和取得的成绩与AIC是分不开的。祝愿AIC越办越好,有更多的孩子能够享受到IB的独特教育价值。


AIC emphasizes critical thinking and self-directed study, which can be well connected to the way of studying in universities in the future. Teachers do not simply and directly tell students the answers, but through heuristic education. After teachers expound the basic knowledge and key points in class, they further require and encourage students to learn and deepen independently through textbooks and additional research after class. This way of learning establishes the ability for students to learn independently and lays a solid foundation for the future university stage.

As a parent of a student, I feel deeply thankful that my child was the student council president. In my impression, my child is a relatively quiet person; she does not actively express herself and are not keen on social activities. AIC's educational model has all-round benefits for her. In addition to knowledge itself, AIC also emphasizes risk-taking and dedication, which is conducive to cultivating her healthy personality.

Alice will graduate this year; her outstanding performance and achievements over the years are inseparable from AIC. I wish AIC an even better future, and that more children can enjoy the unique educational value of IB.

很幸运也很开心能成为Alice Chen 的三年舍友,一步步见证着彼此的成长。一开始只是觉得Alice成绩很好很聪明,但自从欣赏了Alice 的sketch book 后, 才发现她是一位对艺术充满热情,善于观察周遭事物,对艺术有自己的独特见解的女生。犹记得,无论多忙,Alice 都总会与我一起到篮球场挥洒汗水。所以当她对艺术的坚守得到了多方的肯定时,我是发自内心为她高兴。愿有幸还能成为舍友,一起守护花花木木,也愿我们未来各自安好,顶峰相见!


I am very lucky and happy to be Alice Chen's roommate for three years, witnessing each other's growth step by step. At first, I just thought Alice's grades were very good and smart, but after appreciating Alice's sketch book, I realized that she is a girl who is passionate about art, good at observing things around her, and has her own unique insights into art. I still remember that no matter how busy I was, Alice would always go to the basketball court with me to sweat. So, when her persistence in art was affirmed in many ways, I was happy for her from the bottom of my heart. May we be fortunate enough to be roommates and protect the flowers and trees together. May we each be well in the future and meet at the summit!
