The IB Diploma Programme (DP) is a two-year international education programme that prepares students age 16–19 years for success going into, and throughout, university. The DP offers a holistic approach to teaching and learning with a keen focus on developing intercultural awareness. Students learn to explore and understand the world around them through inquiry, critical thinking and open-mindedness.

In August 2022, TWIS will offer the Diploma Programme for Grade 11 students. Courses include Business Management, Mathematics, Sports Science, Psychology, English, Chinese, French, Physics, Music and Visual Arts.

2021年8月30日至31日, IBO访问团队采访了不同的社区成员,并审核了TWIS的文件,以验证学校提供的证明文件是否满足IB的授权要求和标准。另外,访问团队还提出了一些宝贵的建议,以确保DP项目在TWIS的长远发展。同时,IBO访问团队也对TWIS远超审核标准的部分表示高度赞扬:

On 30-31 August, the visiting team interviewed different stakeholders and reviewed our documents to verify the evidence provided by the school demonstrating how it meets the IB’s authorization requirements. The visiting team has also provided valuable recommendations that can ensure the DP will further develop at TWIS. Some of the commendations that the visiting team identify as school practices that are beyond the requirements for authorization include:

IBDP课程的开发与完善,也有赖于DP协调员Mr. Sebastien的专业知识,他坚持不懈地为学校与教师们提供指导方案。拥有20多年的IBDP从教经验的他,是IBDP语言B类考官和团队负责人,也曾经是在卡迪夫推出语言B类评估软件的团队一员。根据过去的从教经验,他曾成功地协调了马尼拉巴伦特国际学校、日本加拿大学院和泰国PTIS学校的CAS(创意、活动、服务)项目。他也是中国长春美国国际学校的IB拓展性论文(EE)的协调员,对于获得IB优异成绩有着独特的见解。此外,Mr. Sebastien还曾在阿曼担任IB职业生涯规划顾问,为DP学生的学科选择和职业生涯规划提供非常重要的帮助。

The request for the candidacy phase was delayed as the whole world was facing an unprecedented health crisis. However, we continued our efforts to work towards meeting the DP standards and practices in spite of the uncertainties faced by the entire planet. For example, while delivering our classes virtually, teachers formed committees to work on our school policies such as language, inclusion, assessment and academic integrity. Some of our teachers enrolled in IB online subject-specific courses. We persevered in gaining support from our stakeholders, especially our parents by organizing all types of information sessions such as face-to-face and online, at different times of the day so as to ensure that parents could attend. 

For the development of the curriculum, we benefitted from the expertise of our DP coordinator who worked tirelessly in coaching our teachers. Mr. Sebastien brings with him 20+ years of teaching experience as IBDP teacher. He is a team leader of IB DP Language B examiners; and was part of the team that launched the Language B assessment software in Cardiff.  Sebastien has successfully coordinated the Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS) programs at Brent International School Manila, Canadian Academy Japan and PTIS International School Thailand. He was an IB Extended Essay coordinator in Changchun American International School, China. CAS and Extended Essay are part of the IB Diploma Core which are essential in obtaining the IB diploma. 

Sebastien served as IB as a career counseling advisor while in Oman, which is valuable in guiding students in their DP subject choices and career paths. All these experiences helped to successfully carry TWIS through the candidacy and authorization process for the Diploma Programme.

Obtaining the DP is a milestone for TWIS as it represents the achievement and the recognition of 14 months of hard work. It also makes us visible to the whole IB world community. It sends a clear message that we can efficiently and successfully deliver a world-class curriculum on our campus. 

The fact that we have earned our certification doesn’t mean that we will stop receiving support from the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO).  On the contrary, we are now in partnership with this international organization. 

First, the school will work with our new International Baccalaureate World School manager for future implementation. Based in Singapore, the IB programme manager will be our first go-to person and we can consult with any time we need clarification or we are having doubts about certain points.

Our teachers will continue accessing high-quality professional development as they can now attend IBDP regional workshops usually held in Hong Kong or Beijing. Our teachers and staff can also play an active role in the IBWS forums which links educators from more than four thousand IB schools. 

Finally, our students will maximize their chances of entering prestigious universities abroad as almost all of those colleges have developed recognition policies for IB DP graduates.
