The rapid evolution of Artificial Intelligence forces us to keep thinking about what kind of education is future-oriented, and one thing we can be sure of is that we need to take students out to see the real world so that they can broaden their horizon and put what they learn in a real context.


建设上海是宏润博源学校一年一度的为期一周的全校PBL学习项目。在建设上海周里,宏润博源的学生走出教室,走进上海这座神奇的城市,做调研,参观企业,与来自上海和世界各地的学者和专业人士对话,向从事不同工作的人们提问,以便更好地理解他们在学校的学习是如何与现实世界的挑战相关联的。

Building Shanghai is a series of week-long PBL projects. During this week, SHBS students walk out of the classroom and into the wonders of Shanghai to do research, visit businesses, talk to scholars and professionals from Shanghai and around the world, and ask people of different jobs questions so that they can better understand how what they’ve learned at school relates to real-world challenges.

 

今年的建设上海在3月27日这周举行,全校师生共同开展了十几个PBL学习项目,今天一起来看看电影产业技术变革探究小组的学习之旅吧。

"Building Shanghai" started on March 27, Monday, this year. All teachers and students worked together and carried out more than a dozen PBL projects. Let's look at what the “Shanghai Film Industries: Old and New Technologies” Group did during this trip.

Shanghai Film Industries: 

Old and New Technologies


学校举行了为期一周的项目制学习活动,我们小组的活动融合了实地探索学习和实践探究,让我们对上海电影制作器材的发展和电影拍摄和制作技术有了更深的了解。

Our school organized a week-long PBL activities. Our group engaged in activities that combined field trips with actual practice, which enabled us to have a deeper understanding of the development of film-making equipment and film shooting and making technologies in Shanghai.


第一天,在学校做了基础的调研准备后,我们参观了上海青瞳视觉科技公司的动作捕捉棚,学习了动作捕捉相关设备的原理和应用,同时我们也体验了基于红外视觉识别的动作捕捉设备。在参观的过程中,我们了解到,这些动作捕捉技术在电影的制作中已经得到了广泛的使用,极大地减少了剧组制作特效所需要的时间和预算。

On the first day, after making some preliminary preparation for our research at school, we visited the motion capture studio of CHINGMU Tech Ltd. to learn about how the related equipment works and is applied. Meanwhile, we experienced and learned how the motion capture equipment worked based on infrared visual recognition. While visiting the studio, we learned that these motion-capture technologies have been widely used in making films, greatly reducing the time and budget the crew need to produce special effects.

下午,我们来到了上海大学温哥华电影学院,参观了他们的特效化妆和打光教室以及高级的音效制作硬件,感受到了电影制作的专业性和复杂性。我们还在电影学院聆听了学院教师为我们带来的各种电影所使用的特效的解析,让我们知道了电影特效的用途和其能达成的效果,以及哪些我们认为是实拍的画面其实是用电脑视效合成的。

On that afternoon, we went to Shanghai Vancouver Film School and visited their classrooms for special effects, makeup and lighting and and saw their advanced sound production hardware, and we were impressed by the professionalism and complexity of film making. In the film school, the teachers explained to us the special effects used in various films, making us aware of the purpose of special effects and what they can achieve, as well as what we thought were real pictures were actually synthesized with computer visual effects.

第二天,我们参观了上海电影博物馆,在博物馆中,我们了解了上海电影业百年来的发展变迁和历史贡献。博物馆展陈分为光影记忆、影史长河、电影工场、荣誉殿堂四大主题展区和五号摄影棚及艺术影厅。我们看到了从早期无声片到现代数字片的各种电影设备和器材,以及这些器材的革新带给电影行业的变化。我们还亲身体验了一些互动装置,这些装置使得我感受到了电影制作的乐趣和挑战。

The next day, we visited Shanghai Film Museum, where we learned about how the Shanghai film industry has developed and changed over the past century and its historical contribution. What are exhibited in the museum is divided into four themes, i.e., Memory of Light and Shadow, Film History, Film Studio, Hall of Honor, and Studio No. 5 and Art Cinema. We saw a variety of film equipment ranging from the ones for the early silent films to the modern digital films, and felt the changes brought by the innovation of these equipment to the film industry. We also tried operating some interactive devices, making us enjoy both the fun and challenges brought by film making.

之后的几天,在了解到了许多理论知识后,我们进行了我们自己的电影片段制作。我们先确定了一个简单的故事情节和角色设定,然后分工合作,有人负责编剧、有人负责导演、有人负责摄像、有人负责表演等。我们用灯光来模拟各种环境,用不同色温的灯光来给观众带来不同的氛围。在不便于在校内拍摄的片段,我们使用After Effect 和 Cinema 4D 等软件进行了特效制作。在实践的过程中,我知道了电影中每个短片段背后的辛苦,知道了特效制作的困难之处以及如何在遇到拍摄困难时使用现有的工具来解决问题。     


         

In the next few days, after learning lots of theories, we made our own movie clips. First, we based our movie on a simple story and several characters, and then we divided our work, each playing a different role, such as playwright, director, cameraman, actor or actresses etc. We simulated various environments with lighting and created different atmosphere for the audience with lights indicating different color temperatures. We used After Effect, Cinema 4D and other software to make special effects for the scenes we could not easily shoot on campus. Through practice, I learned how tough it is to make each short scene and produce special effects in a film,  and also how to use the existing tools to solve problems encountered while making a film.


这次为期一周的建设上海项目制学习让我以全新的方式学习了电影产业的相关知识。我不仅对上海电影业有了更深入的认识,还提高了动手能力和团队合作能力。我觉得这次活动非常有意义,让我对电影制作有了更多的兴趣和热情,受益匪浅。

This week-long PBL learning experience allowed me to learn about the film industry from an entirely new perspective. Not only did I get a deeper understanding of the film industry in Shanghai, but also I got my hands-on skills and teamwork skills improved. I have found this activity very meaningful because it made me grow more devoted to film making, and I have really benefited a lot from it.
