From Tuesday to Thursday each week, the Parent Classroom has become a unique corner of the HC campus. Parents from different industries and with various personalities come together in this open learning community. These parents have changed their previous roles to become HC learners, trying to study different subjects and accepting the challenges of various disciplines. When parents truly achieve this, the positive encouragement they provide to their children goes beyond any language.

不同于传统的教育中家长的权威角色，在HC这个开放型学习社区里，家长转变为孩子在求知路上的伙伴，与孩子共学。家长和孩子之间的关系是互动互存的，可以相互理解、产生共情的。

在文学鉴赏的课上，家长们会和孩子共读同样的作品。当家长们再一次拿起青春岁月读过的经典时，仿佛和老友重逢，与文学老师边谈论边读，同时也会学到一些新的阅读技巧。我们鼓励家长将学到的阅读技巧和自身的阅读感受，与孩子分享建立起来契合的共读关系。或者以一些开放型的问题展开谈论，让孩子们发挥想象力，展开有深度的思考，建立起亲子间的同理心。

小学部的Zoe校长向我们介绍，在去年的文学鉴赏课上，家长和孩子共读了一部经典作品——《追风筝的人》，有着时代记忆的家长们告诉孩子故事的由来，当孩子在了解了背景再进入作品时，才真正有深度的理解这个作品。当家长们一次次的参与到HC的课堂之中，我们看到了更融洽的家庭关系，也看到了家长与孩子间的共同成长。

在HC，家长是陪伴者、提醒者，也是参与者、互动者，与孩子一起亲历探究的过程，一起感受知识的奥秘，一起分享学习的快乐，既提升了智慧素养，又亲密了亲子关系，何乐不为呢？

Differing from the traditional authoritative role of parents in education, in the open learning community of HC, parents transform into partners in their children's quest for knowledge, learning alongside their children. The relationship between parents and children is interactive and mutual, fostering mutual understanding and empathy.

In the literary appreciation class, parents read the same works as their children. When parents pick up the classics they once read during their youth, it's like reuniting with old friends. They engage in discussions with the literature teacher while reading, and at the same time, they learn new reading techniques. We encourage parents to share the reading techniques they've learned and their personal reading experiences with their children, building a shared reading relationship that resonates with each other. They can also initiate open-ended discussions with thought-provoking questions, allowing children to unleash their imagination, engage in profound thinking, and establish empathy between parents and children.

Principal Zoe from the elementary school division introduced to us that in the past year's literary appreciation class, parents and children read a classic work together - 'The Kite Runner.' Parents with memories of the era shared the origins of the story with their children. When children learned about the background and then delved into the work, they truly comprehended the depth of the story. As parents repeatedly participate in HC's classrooms, we witness more harmonious family relationships and the mutual growth of parents and children.

At HC, parents are companions, reminders, as well as participants and interactors in the process of exploring knowledge alongside their children. They together experience the journey of inquiry, feel the mysteries of knowledge, and share the joy of learning. This not only enhances intellectual development but also strengthens parent-child relationships. What's not to love about it?

If you were to ask what the most unexpected gain in the Parent Classroom is, parents would certainly say, 'We came together for our children's education, but we discovered our own passions in this school!' The Parent Classroom is more like a book of enlightenment for happiness. In this open and diverse environment, parents start to examine their life's pace and what truly drives their hearts.

Cherry's mom was inspired by her daughter's enthusiasm for drumming and immediately enrolled in the parents' band class, eager to explore the charm of HC's classrooms.

Christian's dad, observing his child frequently playing the ukulele at home, developed a strong interest in it.

After experiencing an oil painting class, Razor's mom fell in love with expressing her thoughts and ideas on the canvas where colors intertwined.

很多家长在面对不同的选课时，都期待着给自己一个圆梦的机会。回想起舞蹈班的家长们身着旗袍，在剧院的舞台上随着江南小调的节奏优雅从容地跳出的一曲中式舞蹈，温婉自信、魅力动人。

在这场视觉盛宴的背后，当家长们经历了一次次排练，最终完成剧场演出任务的时候，她们欣喜地意识到，原来舞台展演可以激发出一个人这么大的能量和潜力！原来孩子在学校里要做的不仅仅是努力学习，更重要的是在各种活动中发现自己的兴趣，展现出自己的闪光一面，获得更多的动力坚持自己的热爱。

在打击乐的家长社团里，Cherry的妈妈期待着和女儿一起同台表演，家长和孩子相互鼓励，相互支持，享受着打击乐的声响、节奏和趣味，在声场中共享一种情绪、一阵心跳、一段思考，原来音乐是可以这么美好而微妙互动的。

当家长亲身体验过，才更清楚比起追求成绩，让孩子全面发展是如此重要，从阅读习惯到运动习惯，从兴趣特长到生活爱好，父母给予唤醒和鼓舞，给予肯定和支持，从而让孩子懂得“热爱和兴趣可以伴随一生”，经过持之以恒的练习和坚持，并从中获得品格的历练，获得心灵成长的源泉。

Many parents, when faced with various course options, hope to give themselves a chance to fulfill a dream. Reflecting on the parents from the dance class, dressed in qipao, elegantly and confidently danced to the rhythm of a Chinese tune on the theater stage. They exuded grace and charm, showcasing their inner confidence and captivating allure.

Behind this visual feast, when parents went through rehearsals time and time again and finally completed the theater performance task, they joyfully realized that stage performances could unleash such great energy and potential within a person! They discovered that what children need to do at school is not just study diligently but, more importantly, find their interests in various activities, showcase their shining qualities, and gain the motivation to pursue their passions.

In the percussion parent group, Cherry's mom looks forward to performing on the same stage as her daughter. Parents and children encourage and support each other, enjoying the sounds, rhythms, and fun of percussion. They share emotions, heartbeats, and moments of contemplation in the sound space, discovering that music can be so beautiful and intricately interactive.

When parents personally experience it, they become even more aware of how important it is to ensure their children's all-around development, beyond just pursuing academic achievements. From reading habits to physical activities, from special interests to hobbies, parents provide awakening and encouragement, affirmation, and support. In doing so, children learn that 'passion and interests can last a lifetime.' Through consistent practice and perseverance, they gain character development and a source of spiritual growth.

这是每一位国际学校的家长都将要面临的问题，也是我们语言课程开设的初衷。在英语口语的课堂上，比起一本本英文经典作品，家长们更需要的是日常口语表达，当家长们通过一个作品、电影或歌曲来呈现他们阶段性的学习成果时，才体会到原来双语学习带来的不仅仅是语言能力，随着语言的学习，认知灵活性和思维多样性也会随之增强。回归到日常中，也会更加理解和支持孩子的双语学习，更容易接受和包容新的事物。

作为一所面向中、外籍招生的国际学校，外籍父母也是家长课堂成员中的一部分，对外汉语课程的开设，让外籍父母有机会走进中文的课堂，感受汉语的博大精深。课堂上老师用通俗易懂的方式教家长们一些日常交际的用语，为他们的生活增添一些便利。

These are the challenges that every parent at an international school will face, and it's also the original purpose of our language courses. In English spoken language classes, parents need more than just reading classic English works one by one; they need everyday conversational skills. When parents present their progress in stages through a work, movie, or song, they realize that bilingual learning brings not only language proficiency but also enhanced cognitive flexibility and diversity of thought. When they return to their daily lives, they will have a better understanding of and support for their children's bilingual learning and will be more receptive and accommodating to new things.

As an international school that enrolls both Chinese and foreign students, foreign parents are also part of the Parent Classroom community. The introduction of Chinese as a Foreign Language courses allows foreign parents the opportunity to step into Chinese language classrooms and experience the depth and breadth of the Chinese language. In these classes, teachers use simple and understandable methods to teach parents some everyday conversational phrases, adding convenience to their daily lives.

The Parent Classroom connects with philanthropy, 

creating a 'warm' community.

谈起“缝纫课”开设的缘由，小学部Zoe校长向我们分享“我们一直在尝试为学校、家庭、孩子组成一个稳定的三角关系”。在HC的小学部每年都会有关于“流浪动物”的公益活动，家长和学生们爱心满满的投入其中，这让我们想到何不开设一门课让家长有机会与学生紧密合作，一起参与到公益活动中呢。

呼吁社会关注流浪动物，珍爱生命、善待动物。9月，我们募捐到了一些闲置、旧的衣物，并采购了三台电动缝纫机。缝纫课上，家长们从完全不会裁剪到踩缝纫机，在一针一线中为流浪动物制作小衣物和保暖窝。与学生社团相互配合准备慈善物料，与学校共同营造一个充满爱和关怀的教育环境，让爱心公益就这样一代代的传递下去。

When discussing the reason for offering a 'sewing class,' Principal Zoe from the elementary school division shared, 'We have been trying to create a stable triangle relationship between the school, families, and children.' In HC's elementary school division, there is an annual philanthropic activity related to 'stray animals,' and parents and students enthusiastically participate in it. This made us think, why not offer a class that allows parents the opportunity to work closely with students and engage in philanthropic activities together.

We called on society to pay attention to stray animals, cherish life, and treat animals with kindness. In September, we collected some unused and old clothes and purchased three electric sewing machines. In the sewing class, parents went from having no knowledge of cutting to operating sewing machines, creating small clothing and cozy nests for stray animals with every stitch. They collaborated with student clubs to prepare charity materials and, together with the school, created an educational environment filled with love and care, passing on this legacy of philanthropy from one generation to the next.
