MacDuffie毕业声| 在布里斯托学生物是一种什么体验？
青葱岁月，弹指间，毕业季即将到来。恍惚昨天还是那稚气未脱懵懂的样子，才觉时光如此短暂。天南地北，各奔东西。开始了各自不同的人生轨迹。忐忑而期待。每一年都有学子从上海美达菲奔赴世界名校，包括牛津、剑桥、伦敦政治经济学院、帝国理工大学、纽约大学、香港大学、香港中文大学、多伦多大学、墨尔本大学等，藤校、G5多覆盖。
Every year, students from Shanghai MacDuffie go to world famous universities, including Oxford, Cambridge, London School of Economics and Political Science, Imperial College London, New York University, University of Hong Kong, Chinese University of Hong Kong, University of Toronto, University of Melbourne, Ivy League schools, G5 and etc.
这些从美达菲毕业的孩子们，后来怎么样了？去往世界名校的他们，如今过得怎么样？在美达菲的高中三年，他们又有什么样的感悟与体验？正值申请季，上海美达菲「MacDuffie毕业声」系列上线，我们邀请了数名美达菲优秀毕业生，来讲述他们的故事。
What happened to these students after graduating from MacDuffie? Going to the world's top schools, how are they doing now? What kind of perception and experience did they have during the three years of high school in MacDuffie? 第一期专访来自正在布里斯托大学读生物学的学姐，来听听她在英国的生活怎么样？对于学弟学妹，她又给出了什么样的建议？
The first interview is from a student who is studying biology at the University of Bristol. How is her life in the UK? What advice does she give to younger students?
大家好，我是2023年6月从上海美达菲IBDP课程毕业的叶陈芝Betty，目前在布里斯托大学大一，读生物学。
Hello everyone, my name is Betty Ye Chenzhi, who graduated from IBDP course of Shanghai Macduffie in June 2023. I am currently studying biology in my first year at the University of Bristol.

The University of Bristol, founded in 1876, is located in the southwestern city of Bristol, England. As a world-class research university, the old British famous school, is also one of the six famous red brick universities in the United Kingdom. QS World University Ranking #55, and firmly ranked in the UK TOP 10.
当然记得！学科成绩一般般，没有达到老师们和我自己的预期。虽然有点小小失落，但是努力过了我已经很满足啦！
Of course I remember! My academic performance was so-so, which did not meet the expectations of the teachers and myself . Although a little lost, I was still satisfied with myself becaused I had tried hard!
因为英语一直算是我一个小小的强项，雅思是考了8分。但因为当时我是裸考有点发挥失常，感觉这个成绩只能称得上“够用”。
English has always been my strength. I achieved 8 in IELTS. Since I didn’t do any preparation before taking the IELTS test, the score was only “enough” for me.

为什么选择这个专业？现在还热爱吗？布大的专业课老师怎么样？
当初选择生物就是因为兴趣和热爱，上了一个学期感觉更爱了！教授们都很会讲课，很有个人风格而且愿意解答问题，也会时常鼓励大家，能跟他们学习真的很开心！
At the beginning, I chose biology because of my interest and love. After a semester, I feel even more love! The professors are very good at teaching, have a personal style and are willing to answer questions and always encourage you. It was a pleasure to learn from them!
每周每天的课表都是不固定的，所以我们的日常安排也会根据课表来。一般就是起床之后简单早饭，如果上课晚有时间就在家学习一会。如果上课早就去上课，然后会根据天气和心情选择走路或者坐公交去学校。
The class schedule is not fixed every day of the week, so our daily arrangement will be based on the class schedule. It is usually a simple breakfast after getting up, and if you have time to study at home later in class. If you go to class early, then you will choose to walk or take the bus to school according to the weather and your mood.

课堂中间会找个合适的图书馆或者其他地方学习一会，中午跟朋友一起吃午饭，或者提前看到当天有什么学校的好玩的活动也会去，这个时间的运用很随机，上完最后一堂课如果没有什么别的事就直接回宿舍了。
In the middle of the class, I would find a library or other suitable places to study for a while, have lunch with friends at noon, or if I see any interesting school activities that day in advance, I would go there at random. After the last class, I would go back to the dormitory directly if there is nothing else to do.
以前一直以为大家说英国天天下雨应该是夸张了，结果来了发现确实天天下雨！
I used to think It’s a exaggeration that everyone says it rains every day in Britain but after I come, I find it’s true!
Bristol被评为英国最宜居的城市之一，既有经典的英伦古典风情，如随处可见的乔治亚时代式建筑，也有殖民时代的港口风情，令人迷醉的古典庄园。
Bristol is rated as one of the most liveable cities in the UK, with a mix of classic English style, such as Georgian architecture which you can see everywhere, colonial port style, and enchanting classical manor houses.
对英国的第一印象就是房子很矮，跟中国完全相反，尤其是伦敦，就是越往市中心房子越矮。
The first impression of Britain is that the houses are very short, which is completely the opposite of China, especially London, where the houses get shorter as you go to the center of the city.
在美达菲有很多难忘时刻，现在回想真的挺怀念的。这辈子应该不会有机会再跟一群人像高中那样相处两年，从早学到晚了。难忘的更多不是事，而是人，还有每一个无法复刻的瞬间。
There were a lot of memorable moments in MacDuffie, which I really miss now. I don't think I'll ever get to hang out with a bunch of people like I did in high school for two years, from early morning to late evening. What is unforgettable is not things, but people, and every moment that can not be reproduced.

在美达菲的三年，你觉得自己最大的进步在哪？学校有哪些帮助？
我觉得最大的进步就是学会了自己规划时间，并在需要帮助的时候大胆开口。在学术薄弱的地方，学校老师为我提供了非常多的帮助，老师们会鼓励大家有需要帮助，或者不懂的地方一定要主动去提问。
I think the biggest improvement is I’ve learnt how to manage my time and ask for help when I need it. The school teachers provided me with a lot of help where I was weak. Teachers would encourage everyone to ask questions if they needed help or didn't understand something.
来大学之后，最大的感悟就是时间管理能力真的非常重要，想要机会也一定要自己主动去争取。出国肯定会有文化冲击，所有人一开始都会有焦虑，建议提前做一下心理准备。
After coming to university, the biggest understanding is that time management ability is really important, and you must take the initiative to fight for opportunities. You will definitely meet a culture shock after going abroad. Everyone will have anxiety at the beginning and it is recommended to prepare for it in advance.
积极参加学校的新生周，然后多跟人交流，尝试新的东西、认识新的人。刚来的话其实很多事情，包括什么东西在哪里买这种基础的事情，都不知道，我的建议是直接去问别人，不要害怕丢脸或者怎么样，因为你来到了一个新的国家，不知道是正常的。最后，对各位申请季的同学，别太焦虑未来，走好当前的每一步就好了，该来的offer肯定会来的！
Take an active part in your school's freshers' week, then get to know people, try new things and meet new people. In fact, when we just come, we don’t know many things, including what to buy and where to buy even basic things. My advice is to ask people directly and don't be afraid of losing face or what, because you come to a new country, not knowing is normal. Finally, for the students of the application season, don't be too anxious about the future, do what is right at the moment, and the offer will certainly come!
叶陈芝是一个非常优秀的孩子，学习积极主动，内驱力很强，我一直很开心她能加入我们这个大家庭，转眼间她已经是在英国求学大半年了，我相信以她的能力和自律性，未来她一定能在所学专业上闪闪发光的。
Betty is an excellent student who is active in learning and has a strong drive. I am always happy that she can join our big family. She has been studying in the UK for more than half a year in a blink of an eye. I believe that with her ability and self-discipline, she will shine in her major in the future.
