随着一学年末尾的临近,是时候来回顾一番学生们在本学期做出的成果。


进入莱克顿以来,9年级的新生们在为未来的学年做准备,他们专注于提高绘画能力,为了在以后的学年具备完成设计作业的能力。通过绘画,清晰、连贯地展现设计是成为一名优秀设计师的关键技能之一!


十年级的学生们一直在做许多设计和项目,在DT课程中,受到著名设计师Thomas Heatherwick的启发,学生们一直在学习仿生学。仿生学是从大自然中汲取灵感,融入到设计中,在整个20世纪和21世纪的作品中都占有重要地位。因此,学习这种设计,并完成项目让学生不仅了解过去的仿生设计作品,也能了解到当代的仿生设计作品。


此外,在过去的几周,10年级的学生们也在完成他们的凸轮机械玩具。每个学生都围绕自己选择的主题设计了一个玩具,并把各种机械工具组装在一起,制作成品。


这个学年,11年级的学生努力地准备期末考试,最近,他们还在研究自选的拓展内容——造纸和造板工艺的复杂性。学生们需要了解不同材料的性质,以及选择不同的材料对作品的影响,这对他们准备A Level课程至关重要。


12年级的学生们也一直在吸收大量的理论知识,并开始设计个人作品。经过数月的详尽研究,他们目前正在编写产品规范,这是设计过程中的关键要素,需要在设计之前确定产品的要求。


13年级即将要去大学,他们在为大学生活做准备,也在培养未来在大学里做项目所需的能力。A Level DT课程通过对全球市场与制造设施的深入探究,来补充学生们所需的技能,为他们的未来做好准备。

As the year slowly draws to a close, it’s a good opportunity to look back at the projects that the students have spent the last term seeing to fruition.

The new Year 9 students have spent their first few weeks at the school preparing themselves for the years ahead, focusing on developing their drawing skills so that they will be primed for any design tasks in their later years at the school. Being able to express your designs clearly and coherently is one of the key skills for being a good designer! 

Going up through the school, the Year 10s have been working on a number of design and make projects. They have been studying biomimicry, as inspired by one of the course’s key designers, Thomas Heatherwick. Biomimicry is the practice of taking inspiration from nature in design work and has featured heavily in work throughout the 20th & 21st centuries. This kind of design and make project really helps the students immerse themselves in the work of past and present designers.

In addition to this the Year 10s have also been completing their cam toys over the past few weeks - seeing the result of their hard work. They have each designed a toy around a theme of their own choice and have been putting together the mechanics to create their finished toy. 

The Year 11s have worked very hard throughout this year to prepare their theory for the end of year exams and have recently been studying the intricacies of manufacturing papers & boards as this is their chosen extension. Knowing the properties of different materials and their effect on material choices has been essential in preparing them for the A Level course.

The Year 12s have also been pushing through with their extensive theory knowledge and are approaching the point of beginning the design process for their individual projects. After months of exhaustive research, they are currently writing the specification for their products, a key element in the design process which establishes the requirements for the product prior to designing it.

The conclusion of their time at university draws ever closer for the Year 13s as they spend their time readying themselves for the reality of university and the level of detail that they will be required to go into during university projects. The A Level course compliments this well with in depth questions about the global marketplace and manufacturing facilities - preparing them for the years ahead.
