什么是超现实主义？

What is Surrealism?

“超现实主义”这个词是由法国诗人纪尧姆·阿波利奈尔于1917年发明的，对于大多数现代事物，他一贯热爱。他在同一年里两次用到这个词：一次是他的戏剧《Les Mamelles de Tirésias》（1917），他将其形容为“超现实主义戏剧”——一个名副其实的副标题。这部戏剧描述了一个缺乏母性本能的女人宁可当士兵也不愿做母亲，在她要求长出胡须的同时发现自己的乳房正从身体上脱落。她的丈夫不在意地耸耸肩，声称那他就自己生孩子。他真这么做了：一天里生了四万零四十九个。这的确是一部超现实主义戏剧。

“The French poet—and lover of most things modern—Guillaume Apollinaire invented the word in 1917. He used it twice in the same year: once for his play Les Mamelles de Tirésias (1917), which he described as a “drama surréaliste”—a subtitle that lived up to its billing. The play features a woman devoid of the maternal instinct who would rather be a soldier than a mother, and claims to be growing facial hair while remarking that her bosoms are becoming detached from her body. Her husband shrugs and declares that he will just have to have their babies on his own, which he does: producing 40,049 in a single day. A drama surréaliste indeed.”
