At Shekou International School (SIS) , our focus in Early Primary education revolves around several key principles aimed at nurturing the holistic development of each child:
THE FAMILY
We begin by building robust relationships: We prioritize and establish strong connections among students, teachers, and the wider school community. By fostering positive relationships, we create a supportive and inclusive environment where children feel secure, valued, and motivated to learn. We Partner with families to build meaningful relationships that enhance learning experiences overall student growth and achievement.
THE CHILD
We firmly believe in developing the whole child. With the child at the centre of all we do, we embrace a comprehensive approach to education that encompasses the social, emotional, and academic development of each child.
Our curriculum and instructional practices integrate Literacy, Numeracy, Music, Physical Education, Social Studies, Sciences and Visual Arts whilst fostering lifelong skills such as critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving.
We Honor individual needs, recognising that each child is unique and ensuring we strive to create an inclusive learning environment that supports every learner. We believe “if a child cannot learn the way we teach, we change how we teach” ensuring personalised learning experiences, for all students.
THE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
SIS learning supports learner agency, which means our learners are supported to take initiatives, express ideas, and make choices about their learning. As an IB World School, our learners grow to be international-minded.
Our experienced classroom teachers and bilingual Teaching Assistants ensure that Sensory Integration is part of our daily experiences. Playful inquiry is the medium through which children inquire and learn about themselves, their communities, and the world.
Our SIS physical learning environment boasts trees and greenery that positively impact our student’s well-being by creating a calming atmosphere that is conducive to learning. Studies show that exposure to nature reduces stress, improves concentration, and enhances cognitive function.
