Morning Meeting and Closing Circle








Routines for Academic and Social Success



Like all Elementary students at the Immersion school, PY students begin and end each day with their classmates and teachers in a very specific way. We call these routines Morning Meeting and Closing Circle. Morning Meeting and Closing Circle are strategies that come from Responsive Classroom, an organization that provides professional development training, resources and research-based approaches for teaching and discipline. (visit responsiveclassroom.org for more)  The strategies our teachers learn from Responsive Classroom help them to create safe, happy, and engaging classrooms where students develop strong social and academic skills.

Morning Meeting

Each morning, students and teachers gather together in a circle for twenty to thirty minutes, to reconnect as a group and build a strong classroom community. They engage in 4 specific components which are designed to develop both academic and social skills:

  1. Greeting: all students and teachers greet each other by name

  2. Sharing: students share news and information that is important to them while their peers listen and offer empathetic responses or ask questions.

  3. Group Activity: A brief, lively activity that fosters group cohesion and focuses on academic and social skills (reciting a poem, dancing, singing, or playing a game)

  4. Morning Message: students read and interact with a short message written by their teachers. The message is crafted to help prepare students for the work they will engage in at school that day.


Closing Circle

Children need opportunities to reflect on the experiences they have shared with others. The closing circle routine helps teachers and students to peacefully wrap up the day, giving students a chance to recognize their accomplishments and have a sense of belonging in their classroom community. Students will think about what is meaningful to them about their schoolwork, their classmates, and themselves. The closing circle also gives our PY students confidence in their achievements and something to look forward to in the next day at school.

预备班

晨会与一日回顾









学业与社交成功的课堂惯例



与所有实验部的小学生一样,预备班的学生们和老师都会以一种独特的方式开启与结束在校的每一天。我们把这种课堂惯例称为“晨会”“一日回顾”。晨会与一日回顾的策略来自响应式课堂(Responsive Classroom),响应式课堂是为教学和学科提供专业发展培训、资源与基于研究的教学法的组织(更多详情请参见responsiveclassroom.org,或点击文末阅读原文)。老师从响应式课堂上学到的教学策略帮助他们创造安全、愉悦和富有感染力的课堂,以培养学生们高水准的社交与学业能力。


晨会

每天早晨,学生和老师将会围成一个圈,利用二三十分钟互动来建立紧密的班集体。老师将具体通过以下四个方面培养学生的学业与社交能力:

  1. 问候:所有的学生和老师称呼对方的名字来相互问候

  2. 分享:学生分享与自己相关的重要新闻与信息,同学认真倾听并能共情地作出回应或提问

  3. 活动:开展既可以促进班级团结,又可以着眼于学业与社交技能的简短而有趣的活动(如朗诵诗歌、跳舞、唱歌或玩游戏等)

  4. 晨语:学生朗读老师写的简短话语并互动。晨语的内容旨在帮助学生为当天的学习做准备


一日回顾

孩子们需要利用这个机会去回顾与分享他们一天的经历。一日回顾帮助老师和学生平静地结束一天的学习,让学生有机会获得成就感对班集体产生归属感。他们也会有机会回顾功课,思考同学间的相处,加深对自己的了解。一日回顾也让预备班的学生对自己的成就充满信心,并对第二天的学习充满期待。
