On Monday 13th December BMH School held The National Memorial Day Ceremony with all Preparatory 1 upwards students and staff present.
With Dr Wall as master of ceremonies, Ms Flora began by explaining that National Memorial Day is when we commemorate and show our respect for those who died in the Nanjing Massacre.
The Young Pioneers then presented and raised the flag with full formality whilst the school stood to respectful attention with the National Anthem playing. The flag being left at half-mast for the day as a symbolic act of respect for a day on which we mourn those who lost their lives for the freedom of others.
The National Anthem was then sung before Dr Wall led the school community in a Minute’s Silence.
Following this, Dr Wall invited the First Secretary, Ms. Xiong, to give the remembrance speech.
National Memorial day is a day when we show our respect for all people who have given their lives in defense of freedom and commit ourselves to upholding peace. This commitment was well articulated by ‘The Declaration of Peace’ recited by the Young Pioneers.
After the ceremony, our young pioneers and party comrades went to the MinFa Park to visit the Martyrs' Monument and present bouquets.
We were all reminded to make the very most of our opportunities in life as a way of showing our respect and gratitude to those who have made such opportunities possible.
