Introduction





简介

The science fair is a time for students to bring all the skills they have learned in the class room and share what they have learned with other students and teachers. The science fair is a great activity for our students to become science communicators: finding a question they are interested in, applying the scientific method, and then describing and explaining their project to a rapt audience.



科学展是全英部的一个经典学术活动。学生将他们在课堂上学到的知识与技能,基于孩子自己感兴趣的问题出发,应用科学方法,做出假设,得出结果,然后充分发挥主观能动,积极分享,共同成长。




Preparing The Students



学生准备


Our students were told about this task at the beginning of the semester, and one of the biggest set-backs to overcome was the online learning at the beginning of the year. Our wonderful science teachers used this time to introduce the scientific method to the students. They could then make the connection between the scientific method and the science labs they have completed in school. The science curriculum we use in school is very strong, and throughout the years of science class our students have taken, this link to the scientific method was easily accomplished. Our science teachers then guided the students to ask questions about class material they are interested in. Students then carried out their own investigations, encountering and solving problems as they went.



我们的学生在学期开始时就被告知了这项任务,而要克服的最大挫折之一就是年初的在线学习。我们优秀的科学老师利用这段时间向学生们介绍了科学方法;然后,他们可以将科学方法与他们在学校完成的科学实验联系起来。我们在学校施行的科学课程体系充实且完善,学生们有足够的自主空间与体系支撑来完成一个又一个新奇的奇思妙想。

Our International Baccalaureate Unit of Inquiry is How the World Works and so our students went out and explored problems in the real world and used higher level and scientific thinking to find out how the real world functions. Students had to utilise self-management skills and research skills to find answers to their questions. They had to design hypotheses, understand variables and ask questions of each other to achieve this. Our school’s IB framework and guidance from our wonderful directors helped make the science fair a real IB success.



我们本次IB探究主题单元是“世界是如何运作的?”,因此我们的学生走出去探索现实世界中的问题,并使用更高层次的科学思维来了解现实世界的运作方式。学生必须利用自我管理技能和研究技能来找到问题的答案。他们设计问题假设、理解变量并互相提问以实现这一目标。我们学校的 IB 框架和我们出色的科学课程主任的指导使本次科学展取得了真正IB意义上的成功。





Setting Up





展览准备

Our students designed tri-fold boards to display all the information about their science projects. The students spent a lot of time making these boards beautiful, eye catching, but also informative and interesting. They followed the scientific method very well and all the boards looked really great. The morning of the science fair, our students took their boards to the hall and prepared their presentations ready for questions from the judges.

学生们精心设计,用三折板来呈现科学实验的全过程。这些科学展板设计精良,内容丰富且富有创意。与此同时,所有的展板都遵循且表现出了最经典,客观的科学研究方法。所有的展厅设计与布置全部都是由学生们一手完成,静待其他同学,老师以及评委们的到来。




Presentations

Judges went to each group and asked them questions about their boards. The judges were looking at presentation, scientific approach, and answers to questions to formulate an overall grade. Our students had put a lot of thought and work into their presentations and so all did really well in the end. Not only that, but the hall was buzzing with excitement as students shared what they had learned with fellow school mates. It was a great success, with big thanks to all our science teachers!



各位评委老师们会走到每个小组,向他们询问有关科学展板上的问题。他们会基于展板的呈现方式、科学方法和最后的实验,确定最终成绩。学生们展示中付出了很多思考和努力,展示厅里也充满了学生们对知识的渴望与对新知的兴奋。这是一个巨大的成功,非常感谢我们所有的科学老师!

We really hope that all the students involved learned something from the science fair.
