大学和职业咨询可能是国际教育中最重要和最有趣的工作。升学指导员的任务是与所有年级的学生、从 9 年级开始的所有年龄组,以及所有有着不同成绩和梦想的孩子一起工作。通常被认为是拥有魔杖的人,可以将最困难的学生带入世界各地的项目、大学或学院。的确,对于每个学生来说,高中毕业后都有机会进入学院或大学,但家长和学生需要意识到这些课程和大学的水平在价格和质量上可能存在很大差异,在课程长度和学校声望上,以及完成学位后未来工作的机会。


由于世界很大,不仅有中国和“西方”,还有世界上几十个不同的国家和地区,教育标准、入学要求、道德或伦理标准各不相同,所以升学指导员不可能拥有“一刀切”的方法。大学咨询是一项个人任务。它需要不断研究新闻和更新、计划以及让学生在高中展示成长和充分发挥潜力的机会。


通常,学生们也会感到紧张、害怕和沮丧,因为他们觉得自己没有时间弄清楚自己真正想要什么,以及成功申请国外大学需要什么。通常需要几周的时间、多次会议、讨论、收集成绩单、文件和一点点运气才能弄清楚学生当前所处情况的真实情况,然后制定大学准备计划来帮助他们他们将来想去哪里。通常,父母对孩子也有其他期望,本意是好的,但不由自主地给孩子施加了太多的成功压力。


在极少数情况下,大学辅导员不仅充当大学申请的指导,而且还为有特殊需求和挑战的学生和家庭提供导师和治疗师。它还需要非常注意弄清楚学生的心理和心理背景,在某些情况下还需要了解他们的社会家庭结构,以确保他们未来的愿望不会有太多不确定的风险。


没有人是完美的。我们尽力支持并为每个学生找到个性化的方法。升学辅导员最需要的是家长的信任、诚实和开放的心态,以及学生挑战自我的动力和意愿。

College and career counselling is probably the most important and interesting job in international education. College counsellors have the task to work with students of all levels, all age groups up from grade 9 and all different past achievements and future dreams and aspirations. College counsellors are often perceived as people with a magic wand to bring even most difficult students into a program, university or college around the world. And it is true, for every student, there is a chance to get into a program, college or university after finishing high school but parents and students need to be aware that the level of those programs and colleges may vary strongly in price and quality, in length and prestige, and last but not least in future job opportunities after finishing a degree. 

Since the world is huge and there is not just China and the “the West” but dozens of different countries and regions around the world with different educational standards, admission requirements, and moral or ethical standards, it is impossible for a college counsellor to have an approach of “one fits them all”. College counselling is an individual task. It requires constant research for news and updates, programs, and opportunities for students to show growth and develop their full potential in high school. 


Often, students are also nervous and scared, frustrated because they feel like they have no time to figure out what they truly want and what they need to successfully apply to colleges and universities abroad. It often takes a couple of weeks, multiple meetings, discussions, collection of transcripts, documents, and a little bit of luck to figure out a realistic picture of the situation in which a students in currently and then develop a college preparation plan to bring them where they want to be in the future. Often parents have other expectations for their children as well and mean it well but involuntarily put too much pressure for success on their children. 


In rare cases, college counsellors not just function as guidance for university application but also mentors and therapists for students and families with special needs and challenges. It also demands a lot of attention to figure out the mental and psychological background of a student and in some cases their sociological family structure to make sure, their future aspirations will not be endangered. 

Nobody is perfect. We try our best to support and find an individual approach for each student. What college counsellors need the most is the trust, honesty, and an open mind from parents as well as the motivation and willingness to challenge themselves from students.

Here is a list of typical requirements of U.S. universities: 

-Transcripts from grade 9 to grade 12 without interruption 

-Standarized test scores (TOEFL, IELTS, SAT, AP, etc.)

-Recommendation letters from teachers 

-Progress report from college counsellors 

-Interview 

-Activities 

-Essay
