本周三6/14 下午家长课堂，深美学校邀请到我校的升学指导主任Robert博士为家长们带来一场精彩的藤校录取揭秘分享。

In the Parent Class on the afternoon of 6/14 this Wednesday, SAIS invited Dr. Robert, our school’s admission guidance director, to bring parents a wonderful sharing of Ivy League admission secrets.

本次深美国际学校的的家长课堂采用线上线下同步进行的方式，线下参与的家长和线上听学校视频号直播的家长们，共同参与了此次家长课堂。

This Parent Class at SAIS was held online and offline simultaneously. Parents who participated offline and parents who listened to the live broadcast of the school’s video account participated in the parent class together.

家委会负责人Aline向家长们介绍了深美国际学校的IB一贯制课程和升学规划指导的关系。在IB课程体系中，核心课程分为 3 大部分：EE（学术论文）、TOK（认识论）、CAS（社会实践），其中CAS（社会实践）的部分和升学规划指导的关系密切相关。

深美学校IB课程体系中，升学规划指导从孩子进入中学8 年级开始，我们的CAS老师会跟学生一对一访谈，并与学生一起设计最适合他的社会实践活动规划。

学校为此配备了来自世界名校的升学指导师资团队，由耶鲁人类学博士Robert博士领头。

深美学校IB课程体系的CAS社会实践部分分为三个板块，有学校层面提供的学校结对支教活动、潜水、科研等活动，有合作课后课让学生开拓视野，更有为一些孩子个性化定制的社会实践和社团活动。

Aline, the person in charge of the parent committee, introduced the relationship between SAIS's IB curriculum and guidance for further education planning to the parents. In the IB curriculum system, the core courses are divided into 3 parts: EE (academic papers), TOK (theory of knowledge), and CAS (social practice). Among them, the part of CAS (social practice) is closely related to the guidance of further education planning.

In the IB curriculum system of SAlS, the guidance for further education planning begins when the child enters the 8th grade of middle school. Our CAS teacher will interview the student one-on-one, and work with the student to design the most suitable social practice plan for him.

For this purpose, the school is equipped with a team of admission guidance teachers from world-renowned universities, led by Dr. Robert, a PhD in Anthropology from Yale.

The CAS social practice part of SAIS’s IB curriculum system is divided into three parts. There are school pairing support activities, diving, scientific research and other activities provided at the school level. There are cooperative after-school classes for students to broaden their horizons, and more personalized for some children. Customized social practice and club activities.

接下来，Robert博士为深美的家长们分享了美国藤校的录取逻辑和经验：

中国的家长们很看重学生量化的标化考试成绩，一份完美的成绩单对于申请美国前 50 的大学是足够的，但对于申请顶尖藤校是不够的。因为提交藤校申请的学生几乎都有完美的成绩，招生官希望看到的是一份令人印象深刻的文书。一个有关冒险、从失败中总结经验、重振旗鼓的故事。这要求申请人具有真实的、独一无二的经历，并能用吸引人的方式表达出来。冒险精神和讲故事的能力，对于中国的孩子来讲都是很欠缺的。而在冒险的过程中，情感上的韧性和人格上的成熟逐渐形成。

Next, Dr. Robert shared the admission logic and experience of American Ivy League schools for SAIS parents:

Parents in China attach great importance to the quantitative standardized test scores of students. A perfect transcript is enough for applying to the top 50 universities in the United States, but it is not enough for applying to top Ivy League schools. Because nearly all students who apply to Ivy League schools have perfect grades, admissions officers want to see an impressive essay. A story about taking risks, learning from failures, and recovering. This requires applicants to have authentic, unique experiences that can be expressed in an engaging manner. The spirit of adventure and the ability to tell stories are lacking for Chinese children. In the process of taking risks, emotional resilience and personality maturity gradually develop.

Robert博士为深美的家长们提出的建议：

1. 放弃为孩子制定教育规划的想法，让孩子们接触真实的世界。

2. 鼓励孩子参与有风险的活动，尤其是竞技类体育运动。

3. 鼓励孩子们坚持参与自己的社会实践活动，最好是持续 2 年以上。

Dr. Robert's suggestions for SAIS parents:

1. Give up the idea of making an educational plan for your children and expose them to the real world.

2. Encourage your child to participate in risky activities, especially competitive sports.

3. Encourage children to continue to participate in their own social practice activities, preferably for more than 2 years.
